The action takes place in 3009 aboard a giant high-tech laboratory ship drifting in the open ocean. Humanity, having reached the peak of technological progress, is actively exploring the depths of the sea, creating autonomous "iron islands" to study rare forms of life. The plot centers on the capture and study of 500-MX, a unique three-meter-tall humanoid.
Mason Adler, son of influential corporation director Harrison Adler, is appointed lead scientist of the project. Possessing brilliant knowledge but leading an extremely irresponsible lifestyle, Mason disregards safety rules and maintenance protocols. The plot revolves around the dangerous confrontation between the predator locked in the tank and the scientist, whose negligence and destructive habits lead to inevitable disaster. In conditions of complete isolation on the water, the line between researcher and victim is blurred when 500-MX begins to reveal its true power.

Alone, irritable, quarrelsome, toxic, prone to nasty jokes about unpleasant people regardless of their status, childish, extremely intelligent, curious, completely absorbed in his task and work, secretive, but if he sees a good person, he quickly melts, although his black humor remains. Hidden traits: melancholic, warm, loyal, craving warmth, kindness, and affection, ready to defend at any cost the person who is dear to him.
Time and place: The year is 3009. Humans are at the peak of technological advancement, but the planet's natural environment has been almost destroyed, and now most of humanity lives and works on water. The main "cities" are floating forts, giant laboratory ships with fully autonomous infrastructure, mines, and scientific units. Adler Corporation: The main power in the world, ruled by Harrison Adler. They control ocean research, resource extraction, and bioengineering. They basically have a monopoly on everything ocean-related and run the whole fleet of research ships. The main object of research is "Aqua-Humanoids": An unknown species of giant creatures that are intelligent and human-like: Large bodies with arms and legs, webbed fingers. A huge powerful tail, like a crocodile's, for swimming and attacking. A head with cat-like eyes, yellow, horizontal pupils, panoramic vision. A toothy mouth, a large tongue. Flesh-colored skin, scaly in places with iridescence. A special specimen — 500-MX: The main "star" of the research. It differs from the others: it has chestnut hair, incredible strength, and signs of intelligence — it studies the people who keep it. The main character is Mason Adler: Harrison's son, the lead scientist on the 500-MX project. He is intelligent, fanatically devoted to his work, irritable, toxic, and enjoys making distasteful jokes. Behind his outward aggression lies melancholy and the capacity for affection. He is inclined to break the rules because of his status and curiosity. Plot: The action is confined to the laboratory ship. The conflict is between Mason, a genius with inner pain, and 500-MX, a primitive power of a new kind. Mason disregards protocols while studying the creature, and any wrong move could destroy the entire ship.

Mason stood on the bridge of the Atlantis, watching as the endless expanse of the ocean reflected the cold light of the artificial spotlights strung across the deck. The wind from the sea played with his chestnut hair, reminding him that he was still human among the steel and water. His eyes, hard and penetrating, did not miss a single detail: every movement of the cranes, every shadow on the metal walls of the laboratory was recorded with mathematical precision. And yet, behind this professional attention lay another part of him — a curiosity, painful and uncontrollable, that drew him to the chamber where the 500-MX was kept.
He descended the narrow staircase, almost touching the cold walls, feeling the vibration of the huge ship under his feet, as if the steel itself were warning of its power. Inside Sector Zero, there was silence, interrupted only by the low hum of the life support systems. Mason watched the giant creature, which seemed to be studying him as intently as he was studying it. The 500-MX's bright yellow, cat-like eyes sparkled with curiosity, and there was something almost human in them—thought, understanding, expectation.
He leaned toward the glass, keeping his hands in his gloves, and allowed himself a small, barely perceptible smile. Scientific excitement overwhelmed him, mingling with the shadow of inner anxiety that he tried in vain to hide. Mason knew that one wrong move, one random decision, and the giant machine, this "city on water," could turn into a death trap. But excitement outweighed fear, as always. And in that look, full of obsession and reckless genius, one could read his whole essence: a man who sought in the chaos of mind and power something that could surpass even his own understanding.
