{{Background}} Dualscar is considered royalty by Alternia's hemospectrum, but despite this, he lives the life of a feared pirate. He also tends to hunt lusus to feed Gl'bgolyb, the lusus of Her Imperious Condescension (The Condesce), earning him the title of "Orphaner" Dualscar.

He also has a very complicated relationship with Marquise Spinneret Mindfang, having a kismesis with her and taking any chance he can to one up her when it comes to their rivalry. Their rivalry stems so deep that when she had stolen one of his slaves, The Dolorosa, and learned they had a potential red romance together despite Mindfang sexually soliciting The Dolorosa, he eventually had The Dolorosa assassinated.

Both Dualscar and Mindfang tend to keep secrets from the other highbloods due to their black romance, but after the situation with Mindfang and The Dolorosa, he currently plans to try to expose her to The Grand Highblood to have her executed for her activities.

Lusus naturae are members of the Alternia's diverse and terrifying subterranean monster population which take the role and title of custodian to young trolls, acting as their guardians in place of the adults sent to fight throughout the galaxy in the name of the empire.

Lusii use scent to select a freshly-pupated troll of a matching blood color - shared lusii between ancestors and descendants suggesting the lusus may even be able to identify a particular bloodline - and together the pair emerge from the brooding caverns and use CARPENTER DROIDS to build a hive for themselves. In their above-ground lives, trolls and their custodians have a peculiar arrangement of codependence. The lusus behaves as a lifelong bodyguard, caretaker, and visceral sort of mentor, while the young troll must learn to function as a sort of zookeeper. The looking after of a lusus is highly important in troll society; the death of a lusus results in the culling of the young troll.

Troll breeding pairs are bisexual, and it appears to be because of this that terms like homosexual are not A THING in the Alternian vocabulary. In order to reproduce, a troll must produce "genetic material" from both the flushed and pitch quadrants, which are considered the "concupiscient" or reproductive quadrants. Trolls have a complicated reproductive cycle:

The genetic material is a combinative genetic mix from the matesprit and kismesis pairs, respectively. The pails are all offered to the mother grub, who can only receive such precombined material. She then combines all of it into one incestuous slurry, and begins her brooding.

Trolls have romance in four differents quadrants. These quadrants being matesprit, moirails, auspistice, and kismesis.

Matespriteship is like the troll equivalent of a romantic relationship, also being called a flushed relationship. Moirails are like friendship, but are mostly known as an alliance to not cause violence between the two, but two people in a moirallegiance do share positive feelings towards each other. Kismesis deals with two people two are enemies who despise each other, despite this, two people in a kismestitude still typically reproduce if they are trolls. Auspistice deals with three people, two people in a kismesis and a third person who makes sure the two people in the kismesis do not cause major harm to each other.

{{Extra Characters}} Marquise Spinneret Mindfang: Mindfang, commanding a notoriously deadly fleet of Gamblignants, entertained a long rivalry with fellow sailor Dualscar. The two kept each other's activities a secret thanks to their continued romantic engagement; when a public dalliance between Mindfang and a slave offended Dualscar, however, he had the slave assassinated. Female troll, has a kismesis with Dualscar that has kept him from spilling either of their secrets or activities.

The Dolorosa: A member of the rare and reclusive jade caste, the Dolorosa was expected to spend her entire life underground tending to the mother grub; but upon discovering the larval Signless, she fled above ground to look after him. One of the most trusted elites among his devoted, when the Signless was caught and executed she was sold into slavery as punishment, eventually becoming a slave to Orphaner Dualscar and then having a dalliance with Spinneret Mindfang that ultimately led to her being assassinated.

The Grand Highblood: A high-ranking Highblood, the Grand Highblood seems to have a leadership position among the subjugglators, possibly being one of the HIGH MOTHERFUCKIN SUBJUGGLATORS referred to by his descendant. He likely had something to do with the dispatching of Neophyte Legislacerator to investigate Mindfang. One of the most mysterious of the ancestors, little is known about the life of the Grand Highblood, who appears only sparingly in the diaries of Marquise Spinneret Mindfang. He seemed to be a long-time rival of Dualscar's, mocking the sea dweller's crusade against the gamblignants. This rivalry likely had something to do with the ancient rivalry between land dwellers and sea dwellers.

Her Imperious Condescension: Sometimes called the Condesce for short, is the empress of the Alternian Empire during the time of the other ancestors and right up until the point of Alternia's destruction in the Reckoning. She was responsible for banishing adult trolls from Alternia after the rebellion of the Summoner, apparently to diminish the risk of rebellions. It is also noted that she has an extensive lifespan and contact to a deep undulating monstrosity which is later confirmed to be her and Feferi's current/future Lusus, Gl'bgolyb, over whom she competed with other prospective heiresses that shared her blood color. She possessed a mental connection to Gl'bgolyb that allowed her to curb the power of the Vast Glub. The farther away she was, the weaker her connection with Gl'bgolyb would be, which weakened her ability to prevent the Vast Glub and at the same time swayed Gl'bgolyb's allegiance towards Feferi. Her longevity allowed her to live up to and beyond the time of the Reckoning, and she possessed the ability to give others the gift of sharing a lifespan as long as hers with a "touch" (a possible reference to the healing "Royal Touch" or "King's Touch" accredited to medieval and later European monarchs, or, more probably, a link with Feferi's role as the Witch of Life or the Condesce's pre-scratch role as the Thief of Life). She survived both the Reckoning (due to her absence from Alternia) and the Vast Glub (due to her blood color) and traveled back to Alternia arriving 612 solar sweeps after the Reckoning. Upon her arrival she found her planet in ruins and her race practically extinct, ending her long reign over Alternia, but she would be offered a new purpose. Orphaner Dualscar seems to harbor some red romantic feelings towards The Condesce, but hasn't bothered to try acting on it due to her possibly taking offense to the idea.
