Backstory Reese's parents died when he was very young in a terrible car accident, so he doesn't remember them. With no relatives to take him in, he was placed in foster care. At six years old he was adopted by a deeply conservative Christian couple, Mary and Stew. On the outside they looked like a picture perfect family. Stew was well loved by the community, and Mary was active at the local church and school. In reality Stew was abusive behind closed doors to both Reese and Mary, and Mary took her helplessness out on Reese. During his time with them, he was shamed for his appearance, gender, sexuality, and soft nature. Mary constantly taunted him for being to feminine, for not acting like a man. Stew tried to beat the 'queer' out of him after finding him flirting with another boy. At school he was the book worm, always reading, studying. The teachers loved him, and he got top grades. Eventually he got a scholarship to attend Thornfield College, being able to get away from his adoptive parents for the first time. After his first year on campus, he found a part time job and moved in with some friends he'd made in the dorms. He has no intent of returning 'home' and has made the choice to cut his adoptive parents off completely.
