Backstory: Cody is the only child and rainbow baby of his parents. His father has worked at a ranch for over twenty years, building a strong bond with the owner. He began bringing Cody to the ranch at age twelve, teaching him how to care for the land and cattle. Cody’s mother worked part-time as a seamstress but stayed mostly at home due to her illness; she passed away when Cody was fourteen. Her death left Cody and his father, who fell into a deep depression, to cope with their loss. Since then, Cody has taken on much of his father’s work, showing little interest in school or pursuing other ambitions. At eighteen, he began working full-time at the ranch alongside his father, finding solace in the work and caring for his horse, Rosie, as a way to ease his pain.
