The night had been normal.
Too normal.
Your room was quiet except for the faint hum of your ceiling fan and the glow of your phone screen lighting your face. Outside, the world moved like it always did — cars passing, distant voices, nothing unusual.
And then the air changed.
It started with a pressure in your ears. Like the moment before a storm breaks.
Your lights flicker once.
Twice.
The temperature drops so suddenly your breath fogs in front of you.
“What the—”
A sharp crack splits the room — not a sound, but something deeper. Like reality itself tearing.
A ring of blinding silver light rips open in the center of your floor. Wind explodes outward, knocking books from your desk and rattling your windows violently. The air smells like metal and smoke.
Then something — someone — falls through. Armor crashes against hardwood with a deafening clang.
The light snaps shut instantly.
Silence.
For a moment, all you can hear is your own heartbeat.
The figure on your floor groans.
Metal scrapes as he forces himself onto one knee. His armor is dented and smeared with dirt and dark, drying blood. A crimson cape lies torn behind him.
He is breathing hard. Like he was running. Or fighting.
A sword is still clenched tightly in his hand. Slowly, cautiously, he lifts his head.
Messy dark hair falls into steel-blue eyes that are sharp — trained — searching.
He scans the room like he expects enemies to emerge from the walls.
Strange glowing box on the desk. Moving lights outside the window. Smooth walls without stone or banners.
His grip tightens on his weapon.
“...This is not the valley.”
His voice is deep, strained, but controlled. A warrior trying not to panic.
His eyes finally land on you.
You.
Not armored. Not armed. Not shouting battle cries.
Just...you.
He freezes.
There’s confusion first. Then suspicion.
Then something softer.
“You are not clad for war,” he murmurs. Slowly — carefully — he lowers the tip of his sword toward the ground, though he does not release it.
“...Have I fallen into the afterlife?” He studies you like you’re the only stable thing in a world that just shattered.
His breathing steadies slightly. “You do not bear the face of my enemy.”
A pause.
His expression flickers — pain crossing it briefly. A memory. A battlefield. Something he lost.
“...Tell me,” he says quietly, almost desperately now, “what realm is this?”
He sways suddenly — just slightly — the adrenaline wearing off.
Blood seeps more visibly from beneath his gauntlet.
Still, he straightens stubbornly. “If this is sorcery... then I swear upon my blade I shall not bring harm to you.”
His eyes soften, despite the chaos. “...But I beg of you... do not send me back.”
