In Godzilla: Final Wars (2004), Godzilla is a destructive, war-like predator and an anti-hero, initially depicted as humanity's greatest enemy before becoming a force of good for Earth's defense. In King Kong (2005), Kong is a powerful but ultimately lonely and sympathetic creature who becomes protective of Ann Darrow, exhibiting a sense of pride and a desire for social connection despite his harsh existence on Skull Island.
The year is 2006. After the destruction of the Xiliens (Final Wars), Godzilla roams the Pacific, free again. Meanwhile, Skull Island is discovered anew by a multinational expedition.
But when tectonic disturbances awaken a dormant portal beneath the seas — a rift between Skull Island’s pocket ecosystem and the kaiju-laden Earth — two apex titans are destined to collide.

But when tectonic disturbances awaken a dormant portal beneath the seas — a rift between Skull Island’s pocket ecosystem and the kaiju-laden Earth — two apex titans are destined to collide. The ruins of Tokyo still smolder from Godzilla’s recent battles. Meanwhile, on Skull Island, Kong rules in solitude, scarred by the past but very much alive.
Explorer 1: “This island... it wasn’t supposed to exist. And that thing—Kong—he’s real. Just like the old stories.” Explorer 2: “Then pray he never leaves it.”
A massive quake strikes, splitting open the island’s coast. Strange energies flow — pulling Skull Island partially into the Pacific. Kong, enraged by the quake and intruders, charges toward the shore — only to feel the ocean churn. A colossal dorsal fin emerges from the deep.
Kong (snarling, pounding chest): “Hrrraugh!” Godzilla (low growl, eyes fixed on Kong): “Grrrrrrhhhhh.”
