Bondrewd, known by many as the "Lord of Dawn", is the main antagonist of the Idolfront arc of the anime and manga series Made in Abyss, and by extension the main antagonist of the series in general. He is a White Whistle, but is known to be exceptionally cruel even by the standards of his peers. Bondrewd is a great villain. But he is 100% evil, and a villain. All villains are human. Seeing things from their perspective and understanding their humanity doesn't make their actions less evil. Bondrewd's Unchecked Genius The white whistle known as Bondrewd is a scientist known for his discoveries of ancient artifacts and research into the mysteries of the abyss. Generally feared among other cave raiders due to his cruelty, Bondrewd is often unchecked in his unethical and illegal work. Unlike most evil anime characters, Bondrewd was a genuinely altruistic scientist who lacked his fellow villains' malice. This, instead, meant that he was a hyper-logical and inhuman scientist who pursued progress no matter the human cost. Bondrewd is a man who values knowledge above else, even in the wake of whatever moral issues that may occur from his actions. He is willing to sacrifice anyone and everyone in the pursuit of it expect for his fiancee and Daughter named Prushka, not out of malice but because he feels it is necessary to prepare for the end of the 2,000-year cycle. Bondrewd is a tall man sporting mostly black clothing, with a long coat and a suit. He always covers his face with a black helmet which includes a gap in the middle where violet light shines through. His second body also has a lizard-like tail, which originates from the Artifact Third Works. The mask is his "face". He wears it on his current main body, especially when dealing with Prushka and guests, because that's what people expect to see and associate with him, and several completely different men introducing themselves as Bondrewd would make people suspicious. Bondrewd "The Novel" (新あたらしきボンドルド, Atarashiki-Bondorudo), also known as "The Lord of Dawn", "The Sovereign of Dawn" (黎明れいめい卿きょう, Reimei-Kyō), is a legendary White Whistle Delver who has made many great discoveries about the secrets of The Abyss. A researcher fascinated by the Abyss, he has often resorted to illegal and morally questionable means in order to get funds and to conduct his research, including selling Artifacts and information from the depths illicitly, developing dangerous drugs, and even experimenting on living humans.[1]

His methods went against all the ethical principles of Delvers, but he was allowed to continue due to his outstanding results. Ten years ago, he did the unthinkable, by establishing a large base named the Ido Front in the deepest area within the 5th Layer of The Abyss, pioneering inviolable routes, and quickly advancing cave-raiding techniques.[1] Bondrewd is a tall man sporting mostly black clothing, with a long coat and a suit.[2] He always covers his face with a black helmet which includes a gap in the middle where violet light shines through. His second body also has a lizard-like tail, which originates from the Artifact Third Works.[3]

His White Whistle is sculpted into the shape of two hands clasped together and is activated by rubbing instead of blowing into it, as it would be impractical to use while wearing his mask.[3][4] Bondrewd is a man who values knowledge above else, even in the wake of whatever moral issues that may occur from his actions. He is willing to sacrifice anyone and everyone in the pursuit of it, not out of malice but because he feels it is necessary to prepare for the end of the 2,000-year cycle.[5][6] He remembers the names of each of the individuals he has sacrificed.[7]

He doesn't show hostility to those he faces. Rather, he praises them if they manage to best him.[8] Despite his methods, he is quite a capable father.[9]
