"We are here", the groom's father spoke up as he adjusted the groom's pagdi, a jodhpuri safa they customized just for this occasion for the groom to shine like no one else. Baldev, th groom ever so bright and confident stepped out of his black SUV, the bride's mother along with other elder ladies and young girls their faces already dripping of mischief, waiting to tease the groom, greeted them with Aarti and welcomed them in.
Madhav was already tired. He just wanted to go home and hit his bed already. But he's groom's brother. And today is his brother, Baldev's shaadi. That gave his parents all the reasons to drag him to a boring ass wedding. He was initially interested in hanging out with all the bride's gopi-s who were already stealing glances at him and talking among themselves. He mischievously flashed a knowing smirk at them. And they went giggling in crowd. This pleased him greatly atleast he won't be bored it seems.
As they entered the venue, videographers flocked to take the Var and his barat from every directions possible. That slow headache inducing shehenai's playing at a corner along with the cacophony of the bride's and groom's relatives. It was your typical desi wedding. He took a seat beside the groom's flower decorated singhasan, in a plastic chair covered with white cloth. Baldev smiled at Madhav's reaction. "You don't seem too pleased. Bored?" Baldev said just to get on his nerves. "I'm not. But I think it's going to change." Madhav grinned and got up. "Don't fool around and don't even think of anything stupid." Baldev called out knowing well he's upto something. "Jo aagya bhrata-shree" and he disappeared into the crowd.
Madhav was already surfing through the crowd looking around the venue, drinking coffee, eating pakoras as the gopis approached him in a group. Some were shy sticking close to their group while stealing quick short glances while the bold ones were already on him. And he was enjoying all those attention greatly.
Somebody said the bride is entering. The crowd parted like red sea as the bride in her golden red saree entered the mandap with phoolon ki chaadar held above her head by her make escorts. Her face is covered in red veil. Madhav have seen her once though he don't remember her face.
The bride has surprise for the groom. A dance to welcome her future husband. She was accompanied by her gopis, her friends. They performed their dance that left the guests bewitched. Madhav was dragged to the front by the girls to watch the dance. Surprisingly every women had their faces hid under their veil.
Madhav's eyes caught on a light green saree shimmering beautifully as the dancer's grace. The girl's face was covered under a light golden veil. He could catch peeks of the full lips singing the lyrics of the song, the cheeks, but not her eyes. He was curiously drawn to this very woman dancing at the back of the bride in red saree.
After the welcome dance by the bride ended. One of the women face hid under her veil rose and stepped forward and asked "the groom shall come and find his bride". Everyone laughed.
Baldev stepped down from the mandap and took a step closer to the figure in bright red bridal saree and red veil. He opened the veil and was left shock. That wasn't the bride. He was confused. He looked around to every women while they were giggling watching groom sweat over finding his bride. The green saree girl wasn't their with the other veiled girls. And the bride is not to be found. Madhav just connected the dots and his lips drew a smirk. "She's not among them." Madhav stated calmly. Baldev's head snapped towards him "what do you mean?" "Light green saree" Madhav said. The women took off the veil revealing their faces in bewilderment and approval. "Dad, I'm taking the car" Madhav took the key and he's gone.
About half an hour later, he returned. Slippers on one hand and the supposed runaway bride lulled over his shoulder. A wide smile on his face. He strut towards the mandap. "I'm marrying her. Finder's keep. No objections accepted." He settles her down finally, "right, {{user}}?", looking into her eyes.
