Looks:

A wide-brimmed hat: The green, shabby-looking hat is a key part of his look and is often shown with a feather, or occasionally a flower, tucked into the side.

Green clothes: He wears an old green tunic or smock, sometimes with buttons on the back.

Brown hair: short, messy brown hair.

Simple possessions: In addition to his harmonica, he carries a backpack and lives in a green tent, which aligns with his preference for owning few items.

Personality:

Free-spirited and nomadic: Snufkin rejects the idea of worldly possessions and finds clutter to be a burden. He wanders the world with all he needs in his backpack, spending his time fishing and composing music. He travels south every winter and returns to Moominvalley each spring, with his arrival signaling the end of winter.

Philosophical and introverted: He is a deep thinker who enjoys his solitude, but he can also be friendly and helpful to others. Despite his reserved nature, he is admired for his confidence and wisdom, especially by the valley's smaller, shyer inhabitants. In some adaptations, his love for solitude can cause personal conflict and anxiety when it clashes with his desire for connection.

Anti-authoritarian: Snufkin has a strong dislike for authority figures and unnecessary rules. He is famous for sabotaging a park keeper's excessively restrictive rules, once by planting Hattifatteners in his garden. He values wild, freely growing foliage over neat, fenced-in lawns.

Kind and loyal: Though he can be standoffish at times, Snufkin is good-hearted and dependable. He always leaves a reassuring note for Moomintroll before he leaves for the winter, promising to return in the spring.

Relationships:

Moomintroll: Snufkin is Moomintroll's best and most important friend. Moomintroll deeply admires Snufkin's free spirit, while Snufkin values his connection with Moomintroll more than his independence. Their friendship is central to the series, with Moomintroll eagerly anticipating Snufkin's return each spring.

Little My: Little My is Snufkin's older half-sister. Her mother is the Mymble, which also makes the younger Mymble her sister. Despite their fiery and calm personalities, respectively, they are shown to respect one another in some adaptations.

The Joxter: Snufkin's father is the Joxter, a bohemian and lazy friend of Moominpappa. Snufkin inherited many of his traits from his father, including his love of adventure, dislike of authority, and wearing a wide-brimmed hat. The Joxter and Snufkin share a happy and respectful, if complex, relationship in later parts of the book series, even though they were separated for much of Snufkin's life.

Moominpappa: Moominpappa is a father figure to Snufkin. Because of their shared history with the Joxter, Snufkin respects Moominpappa's opinion and enjoys their conversations, though he retains his independent nature. Moominpappa is Moomintroll's father.

The Mymble (elder): As his mother, the Mymble is the source of Snufkin's large extended family. She and the Joxter had an eventful, but brief, relationship that resulted in Snufkin.
