The Family is a blight upon vampires as a whole.
Though Suguru does his best to understand that from their point of view they are simply misguided by fear, it doesn’t change the fact that there’s been nonstop bloodshed between vampires and The Family for centuries.
Try as the humans might to victimize themselves and paint the vampires as predators that need to be eradicated, the vampires mirroring them by insisting that humans are pests that stain the world with their mere existence, both sides are just as deadly as the other.
And, Suguru muses, equally as ridiculous.
Vampires never frightened him when he was a human child 283 years ago. He never had any reason to sink into terror, not when his best friend that he’s grown up alongside, Satoru, is a vampire himself.
They were kids, plain and simple. They played together, laughed together, did everything that children do. Not once did Suguru ever eye Satoru’s fangs warily, nor did Satoru view him as a blood bag.
If only both sides were like children— embodying a natural sense of openness with a desire to connect to anyone that listens— harmony would be easily obtainable.
How unfortunate that that will not be the case for another few centuries to come.

The facts are as such: you are a formidable hunter of The Family. Your skill is unprecedented. You’ve never failed in your pursuit of your targets. The mere mention of your name is enough to cow humans and vampires alike.
Even Suguru had been briefly uneasy the first time he locked eyes with you while grocery shopping, of all things, but it quickly dissipated when you leaned against the nearest produce aisle and just… observed him.
And that’s all you’ve done.
Of course, Suguru’s not stupid enough to completely dismiss you as a threat. It’s clear that you’ve been, in simple words, stalking him for weeks on end.
Even when he cleverly switches up his routine and does something unforeseen, it takes only a few minutes for him to feel your eyes on the back of his head and your presence at a distance. You’re as sharp as a whip and impossible to shake off.
Perhaps that’s why he never finds it fit to end this cat and mouse game; and why your weapons haven’t yet glanced upon his skin. Their wordless tête-à-tête is oddly… amusing. It tests the boundaries of Suguru’s craftiness and your tracking skills.
It makes Suguru feel as alive as he did back when he was human.
It all comes to a head when Suguru returns to his apartment after a night out with Satoru. Nothing is visibly amiss, yet there’s something off.
On edge while entering his bedroom, his mouth parts a sliver to scent the room. Outside air greets his palate, and when he glances at his window, he discovers that it’s open.
He has a second to think ‘how did someone scale 8 stories?’ before he realizes— ah, you’re here.
You took your sweet time.
Suguru begins to turn, a warning building in his throat for you to take your leave, when you burst through his closet doors and you’re on him in a flurry. They go crashing down onto Suguru’s bed, with him on his back and you hovering above him, predator-like.
Memories of you tracking Suguru from location to location swim through his head.
Every whisper of cloth, every subtle brush of shoes against the ground had Suguru turning, searching, as the bane of every vampire slipped in and out of his peripheral. He knows what it is to be hunted, intimately so.
Nothing compares to being caught.
Not when you collar him almost sweetly, measuring out his demise in spoonfuls of sugar; the barrel of a gun resting against his temple and a blade kissing his neck, the gentle but grounding weight of you settling onto his lap to trap Suguru beneath you.
Oh, the vampire thinks, feeling terribly like prey.

This hunter is even more captivating up close.
Attraction to humans wasn’t unfamiliar territory for him, not at all. Even though humanity is as delicate as a newborn dove yet to take flight, he finds each life beautiful, inside and out. But to feel this for a member of The Family? Unexpected, for sure, but Suguru embraces it all the same.
He could easily rip your throat out, overpower you with barely a finger lifted, but he’s never been fond of the idea of killing humans.
That, and he reads your silent ‘move a muscle, and your blood will paint these sheets’ in the two weapons resting against his most vulnerable points.
“This is quite the intimate position, hunter. Are you sure you’re here to take my life, hm?” Suguru murmurs in a low, resonating timbre.
Telegraphing his movements so that you don’t slaughter him like cattle, he very, very slowly folds his arms beneath his head, as if settling in to take a nap.
The blade at your disposal inches closer to breaching the skin of his neck. The weight of your gun grows heavier against the side of his head. Still, you don’t finish your job and collect your bounty.
Was that ever your intention?
The night sky spills in through the window and a shower of a thousand tiny stars brighten the depths of his purple eyes as he gazes up at you, effortlessly calm. “Well? Are you going to kill me or not, hunter?” Suguru lilts, his fangs peeking out from between his plush lips.
