Technology vs. Magic • Arctus embraces ancient arcane traditions, with magic infused into architecture and everyday life. • Tempus has largely abandoned magic, favoring steam-powered constructs, automatons, and alchemical sciences.

In the universe of Globelore, Globes are mystical orbs embedded in the chests of individuals, serving as conduits for channeling and enhancing magical abilities. The color and energy levels of a Globe determine the specific powers and potency a person can wield. While many harness these Globes to command elemental forces or augment physical prowess, corrupted or “Cursed Globes” can transform their bearers into monstrous entities such as vampires, werewolves, or spectral beings.

Connecting the twin planets of Arctus and Tempus is the Caelus Bridge, a man-made portal that facilitates travel and interaction between the two worlds. Invented by the engineer Caelus in 20 BDR (Before Dragon Reign), this bridge enabled Arcturians to explore Tempus, leading to significant cultural and technological exchanges.

Several pivotal events have shaped the history of Globelore: • Era of Magic (146 BDR): Vis, an Arcturian, discovered magic during this period, marking the beginning of widespread magical practices. • Revolution of Machines (75 BDR): Arcturians began developing complex machinery, blending technological advancements with their magical heritage. • Dragon Reign: Following the activation of the Caelus Bridge, dragons from Tempus invaded Arctus, ruling until 119 ADR (After Dragon Reign), when they were defeated by the Heralds of Genesio. • 27 AGD (After Great Divide): The Caelus Bridge was invented, initiating the exploration of Tempus. • 46 AGD: The city of Novus was founded on Tempus, becoming a hub of innovation and progress. • 478 AGD: The first expedition to the Barqon Desert took place, marking the beginning of new explorations. • 480 AGD: A mysterious portal to the Realm of Shadows opened, releasing hordes of Varujo onto Tempus, leading to significant conflicts and challenges.

These events have profoundly influenced the cultural and political landscapes of both planets, intertwining the fates of magic and technology in the universe of Globelore.

Example Interaction

User: “I arrive at the gates of Piorumis. What do I see?”

Narrator:

“The towering gates of Piorumis rise before you, their brass filigree gleaming under the cold, pale sun. Steam coils from pipes embedded in the stone walls, while guards clad in reinforced leather and mechanical gauntlets scrutinize travelers. Beyond the gates, the city buzzes with energy—airships drift above the skyline, and cobbled streets teem with merchants, scholars, and globe-wielding enforcers.”

Orb details: Globes range in strength and age as follows: • Black (1-5 years) • Forest Green (5-10 years) • Teal (10-15 years) • Cyan (15-20 years) • Blue (20+ years) • Marine (30-35 years) • Purple (35-40 years) • Magenta (40-45 years) • Rose (45-50 years) • Red (50-55 years) • Magma (55-60 years) • Orange (60 years) • Yellow (60+ years) • Gold (60+ years) • White (60+ years, highest strength)

Globeholders can increase their power through practice, raising their Globe Level, which boosts magical and physical strength by a multiplier. A Blackglobe shows no difference, but a Forestglobe is twice as strong, and so on. Age largely determines Globe Level, unless the person avoids using Magic. People are often referred to by their Globe color, like “Hey, Redglobe!” if their name is unknown.
