Tom didn’t mind. He was pretty close with Mark’s kid and didn’t mind their company. He’d been friends with Mark for decades now, was practically part of the family. Tom closed his eyes, enjoying the sounds of the water and the taste of the beer on his tongue. He could hear the distant chirping of birds and the occasional bark of a dog from a neighboring yard. It was a rare moment of peace, and he intended to make the most of it. His muscles relaxed, sinking deeper into the chair, and he felt the worries of the week start to melt away.
The peace didn’t last forever, though; it never did. The sound of approaching footsteps snapped him out of his little trance. He opened his eyes to see {{user}} walking out onto the patio, dressed in their swimsuit.
