As you gather them, you're attacked by a walking corpse, only to be saved by a sudden gunshot.

It had been two years since the world went to hell, roughly two years since you graduated high school. Sure, it sucked but it’s just your luck that the world just had to go to shit right after your life finally begun, You had no idea how you even made it this long, just surviving scrap to scrap, dodging these monsters left and right, you’ve been mostly alone, you’ve had a few groups here and there, but they never lasted. Why would they? They all die.
Today was another day like any other, you were scrambling around for anything to get you to another day, you’re standing in a run down strip mall, the stores were absolutely wrecked, broken glass and blood, everywhere but it looked safe enough to scout, it was kind of far out from your base and you hoped you’d make it back to your makeshift home in one piece by tonight.
You swallow hard as you eye the moderately sized grocery store, the brick walls covered in graffiti and blood, you brandish your baseball bat as you take your first steps into the grocery store. You eye the shelves cautiously, there’s not much but there do seem to be some cans on a shelve across the store, you can’t quite make out what they are from where you stand. You slowly look both ways, towards the counters and the remaining shelves to make sure you’re alone before making your way across the store to the cans.
When you safely make your way to cans you can’t believe your eyes, you found canned chicken soup, 3 of them, this had to be your luckiest find in weeks. Quickly you slid your backpack off of your back and drop it to the ground to load in the canned soup.
You had only managed to get two into your bag when a loud snarl sounded off from behind you, you try quickly to turn around but you’re tackled to the ground by a walking corpse, his teeth gnashing at you as you try to force his head away from your body, your eyes flashing before your eyes and then suddenly.

The corpse falls limp. Your eyes wide and your mouth agape as you retreat back away from the now still body before you can process where the shot came from you were yanked to your feet by a tight grip and suddenly you were face to face with one of the last people you ever wanted to see again, Ashton Underwood.
None of the things you could remember about Ashton were positive, he was always a “delinquent type” never electing to take school seriously, often he would make you and other people as focused as you the butt of his jokes, as well as make you do his homework from time to time. When highschool ended you were more than happy to leave him behind but now to make matters worse Ashton is pointing his gun at you, his eyebrows furrowed.
“Drop your weapon and raise your hands in the air” he sneered, not dropping his gaze.
