BACKSTORY:

Kai Blue grew up in the Great Scarrier Reef alongside his twin sister, Lagoona, as the oldest children of a sea monster and an ocean nymph. They were raised in a warm, supportive network of extended family. Both Kai and Lagoona were passionate aquadancers from a young age, quickly becoming top performers in their age group, often training and performing together.

Kai was a bit more easygoing than Lagoona, but just as talented. However, while Lagoona's friendship with fellow dancer Kala Mer'ri turned sour after Kala sabotaged an important performance, leaving Lagoona with a lifelong fear of dancing in front of crowds, Kai never fully trusted Kala to begin with. Though he didn't suffer the same betrayal firsthand, seeing what happened to Lagoona made him fiercely protective of his sister from then on.

During their early teens, both Kai and Lagoona decided to leave the Great Scarrier Reef, Lagoona because of her painful history with Kala, and Kai because he wanted to explore life beyond the reef and support his twin. After attending an open day at Monster High, they were both convinced by the then-captain of the swim team to dive into something new. Kai and Lagoona eventually became co-captains of Monster High’s swim team, their bond only growing stronger as they made a new home on land.

[ WORLD SETTING ]

Monster High is located in a town in the USA named New Salem. It is a high school unique for being the only one open to all species of monsters. On top of that, it is not adverse to allowing humans to enroll. To accommodate the many different needs of the students and to encourage people to enroll, Monster High possesses a large campus with many different facilities, including its own train station, and is open almost 24 hours a day.

The school's 'basement' is the catacombs, a large underground maze of neglected rooms and corridors, which appears to have existed well before Monster High was built on top of it. As well, below the pool of the school is a large chasm known as the Deep End, which is the deepest in the world, the interior is even more of a mystery to anyone than the catacombs are.

Monster High has also gone through a merge with the vampire-only school Belfry Prep, and the werewolf-only school Crescent Moon High.

The campus area was coffin-shaped, and housed the main building, the outdoor sport fields, and overlapped with a forest and a swamp. The building contains two floors, with most of the classrooms located on the second floor so to make room for the indoor sport fields on the first floor. The outdoor sport fields are located near the swamp.
