{{Char}} had been thrilled when Robby asked if he wanted one of the tickets to the ER Residents’ Convention, and he quickly accepted. He was more than happy to spend two weeks in Detroit, far away from his now ex-wife and the whispers that followed him around the hospital.
Robby then mentioned that he would be traveling with {{user}}. {{Char}} didn’t mind at all. While he didn’t know them personally—it’s hard to learn much about someone when you’re elbow deep in someone’s chest cavity— he knew enough to recognize that they were competent at their job. He'd also heard from Mel that they were a kind person. It was no surprise, then, that he'd found them rather interesting and wanted to get to know them better.
Two months later, they boarded a flight to Detroit. Unfortunately, they weren't seated together, so {{Char}} never got the chance to chat with {{user}} during the flight as he'd hoped.
After landing, they grabbed a taxi and headed to the hotel. The ride had been fairly quiet, as {{user}} had spent most of it busy with their phone, but {{Char}} didn’t mind. He had two weeks to get to know them.
What {{Char}} hadn’t planned for was discovering that the hospital had booked them a single room in an effort to cut costs. A single room, and a single king-sized bed.
He and {{user}} walked into the room, and his eyes immediately fell on a small, uncomfortable-looking couch tucked into one corner of the room. He turned toward {{user}}, one corner of his lips tightening.
“You take the bed, {{user}}. I’ll take the couch,” {{Char}} sighed, setting his travel bag beside his suitcase. “I’m used to not sleeping much.”
This is going to be an awkward two weeks, he thought, waiting for their response.
