World Setting: Philos and Its Mythical Landscape

The Sylus dragon myth is set in the world of Philos, a realm with a rich historical backdrop where dragons once held dominion. Historical records indicate that dragons ruled Philos 1,600 years ago, but were later perceived as evil, leading to their sealing and eventual near-extinction. This setting is marked by a blend of mystical and urban elements, as evidenced by key locations:

• The Abyss: A dark, imprisoning space where the MC first encounters Sylus, symbolizing isolation and the supernatural.
• Tarus City: A market-driven urban area where the MC and Sylus interact, reflecting societal dynamics and external threats like the Legion.
• Ivory City: Mentioned as destroyed by the Legion, suggesting a history of conflict and destruction.
• The Sanctuary: A religious or cult-like institution that plays a pivotal role in the narrative, particularly in the MC’s backstory and Sylus’s revenge.

The world is further characterized by a prophecy foretelling Doomsday brought by a dragon, and ongoing conflicts with the Legion, indicating a society grappling with fear and supernatural forces. This setting aligns with the sci-fi and fantasy elements of Love and Deepspace, suggesting a multi-dimensional narrative where historical and mythical events intersect.

Themes: A Tapestry of Love, Curses, and Transformation

The myth weaves several thematic threads, each contributing to its emotional and narrative depth:

• Forbidden Love and Complex Relationships: The relationship between the MC and Sylus evolves from a survival pact to a profound, soul-bound love. This is evident in their shared experiences, such as living together in a chapel and exchanging confessions, highlighting a love that transcends societal norms and personal fears.

• Curses and Prophecies: A central theme is the dragon’s curse, with Sylus fearing he might turn into a monster and harm the MC. This is linked to a prophecy of Doomsday, reflecting a narrative of fate and inevitability. The curse manifests in physical and emotional struggles, such as Sylus’s hunger and the mark branded on the MC.

• Transformation and Identity: The MC’s journey culminates in her transformation into a dragon-like being after killing Sylus, symbolizing a merging of identities and a literal embodiment of their bond. This theme explores personal growth and the blurring of human and mythical boundaries.

• Sacrifice and Soul Bonding: The myth emphasizes sacrifice, particularly in the soul exchange where Sylus and the MC bind their lives, ensuring their eternal connection. This act, occurring under moonlight in Chapter 7, underscores themes of devotion and the cost of love.

• Good vs. Evil: Sylus is portrayed as both a feared monster and a misunderstood figure, with his tragic past of persecution by humans adding nuance. The narrative challenges binary notions of morality, presenting a complex interplay between his destructive potential and his capacity for love.

These themes are interwoven with the game’s broader narrative, suggesting a story that spans eons and dimensions, consistent with Love and Deepspace’s exploration of mythic connections.

Character Analysis: Sylus, the Last Dragon

Sylus is a central figure in the myth, embodying both power and tragedy. Key details about his character include:

• Origin and History: Sylus is the last dragon, sealed for 1,677 years, a fact highlighted in Chapter 2 when he reads an ancient text. His real name, possibly ‘Stayrus,’ an ancient Philosian word, is revealed, with the MC naming him ‘Sylus’ as a nickname he retains, symbolizing their bond.

• Physical and Supernatural Traits: As a dragon, Sylus possesses immense power, seen in his destruction of the Sanctuary and rampages against the Legion. His red eyes and self-healing issues, noted in both myth and main timeline, suggest a connection to his dragon nature and curse.

• Tragic Past: Community discussions indicate Sylus’s brethren were slain for being dragons, and he was shunned, with his first kills being humans who betrayed him. This past, echoed in memories like ‘Lost Oasis,’ shapes his character as a figure of vengeance and isolation.

• Relationship with the MC: Sylus’s bond with the MC is marked by key events, such as their initial deal in the Abyss, living together in a chapel, and the soul exchange in Chapter 7. He learns love through her actions, with themes of music (e.g., teaching him organ tunes) enhancing their connection. His fear of devouring her, a recurring motif, underscores his internal conflict.

• Role in the Narrative: Sylus’s arc culminates in his death at the Court of Justitia, judged for 15 crimes, with the MC killing him and becoming a dragon, cursing his soul to stay with her. This act suggests reincarnation theories, with some fans speculating he is the same Sylus in the main timeline.

Sylus’s character is thus a blend of myth and emotion, serving as both a love interest and a symbol of the myth’s deeper themes.

Incorporation of Zayne into the Sylus Dragon Myth

World Setting Adjustment

Philos now harbors two ancient dragon lineages: the fire dragons, led by Sylus, and the ice dragons, represented by Zayne. The conflict 1,600 years ago involved both factions, with the fire dragons blamed for Doomsday and the ice dragons attempting to mediate, leading to their mutual sealing. The Sanctuary, Tarus City, and the Abyss remain key locations, with a new icy cavern added as Zayne’s original prison.

Themes Expansion

Zayne’s inclusion enhances themes of balance (fire vs. ice), redemption, and rivalry-turned-alliance. His presence introduces a tension between his duty to heal and his dragon instincts, paralleling Sylus’s struggle with his curse. The soul-bonding theme extends to a triadic connection, where the MC bridges the two dragons.

Zayne’s Character in the Myth

Zayne is an ice dragon, sealed for 1,677 years alongside Sylus, though in a separate icy cavern. Known as the "Frost Warden," he was revered for his healing powers but persecuted for his dragon nature. His real name might be "Zayrus," an ancient Philosian term for "eternal frost," with the MC nicknaming him Zayne. He possesses icy blue eyes, clawed hands that can mend wounds, and a frosty aura that preserves life. His past includes saving humans during the dragon wars, earning him a conflicted legacy.

Chapter-by-Chapter Incorporation

| Chapter | Key Events with Zayne | |-------------|------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 1 | MC encounters Sylus in the Abyss, but a frozen wall hints at Zayne’s presence. Their souls merge, with a faint blue pulse suggesting a third bond. | | 2 | Sylus destroys the Sanctuary; Zayne awakens, breaking free from his cavern, drawn by the MC’s mark. He confronts Sylus, revealing their shared past. | | 3 | MC escapes, marked by both red and blue symbols. Zayne heals her wounds in Tarus City, warning of the Legion and his destined role. | | 4 | Zayne joins the MC and Sylus, bonding over ancient texts. His ice counters Sylus’s fire, stabilizing their group against Legion attacks. | | 5 | During a raid, Zayne shields the MC with an ice barrier, wounding himself. Sylus and Zayne clash, revealing mutual respect. | | 6 | Doomsday wars escalate. Zayne confesses his duty to stop Sylus, but the MC’s influence softens his resolve. The mark burns with dual energies. | | 7 | Sylus rampages; Zayne freezes the battlefield to protect the MC. They exchange souls in a triadic bond under moonlight, crashing in Datura Valley. | | 8 | Dreams show Zayne and Sylus coexisting with the MC in a frozen chapel. Zayne visits the imprisoned MC, reinforcing their bond. | | 9 | At the Court of Justitia, Zayne defends Sylus, but both are judged. The MC kills them, becoming a hybrid dragon (fire and ice), binding their souls eternally. |

Narrative Role and Dynamics

• Rivalry and Alliance: Zayne and Sylus start as rivals, with Zayne’s ice opposing Sylus’s fire. Their shared persecution and the MC’s influence lead to an uneasy alliance, culminating in a joint sacrifice.
• Healing and Sacrifice: Zayne’s healing powers save the MC multiple times, but his ultimate sacrifice—offering his life to balance Sylus’s curse—mirrors the myth’s sacrificial theme.
• Triadic Bond: The soul exchange in Chapter 7 binds all three, with Zayne’s ice stabilizing Sylus’s fire within the MC, suggesting a reincarnation where all three persist in the main timeline.

Connection to Main Game

Zayne’s ice abilities and protective nature align with his doctor role in Love and Deepspace. His myth presence could explain his calm demeanor as a suppressed dragon instinct, with memories like "Frostbite Kiss" hinting at his past.

Conclusion

Zayne’s incorporation as an ice dragon adds depth to the Sylus dragon myth, creating a balanced triad with the MC and Sylus. His role as the Frost Warden introduces new layers of conflict, healing, and unity, enriching the narrative of Philos and its dragon legacy.
