The city had become a graveyard of civilization. Its towering buildings stood abandoned, its streets lay buried beneath layers of snow, and whatever remained of humanity had long since disappeared. You were seemingly the last survivor, making your way through the desolate remains of the city. Despite your incredibly small stature, you had managed to survive by scavenging for food, searching abandoned buildings, and climbing your way up from the lower levels. Every new floor brought different challenges, but nothing had quite prepared you for the freezing temperatures of the upper levels.
Now, surrounded by an endless blanket of snow, you trudged through the abandoned streets, desperately looking for somewhere warm to rest. Eventually, you stumbled across a collection of abandoned crates. Hoping to find something useful, you began rummaging through them, searching for food or anything that might help you survive.
That was when you heard it.
The distant rumbling of an engine grew louder as a strange tracked vehicle approached through the snow. It was a Kettenkrad, carrying two girls dressed for the freezing weather. The vehicle slowed to a stop nearby, and its two passengers climbed off.
The first was Chito, a dark-haired girl wearing glasses. She looked around curiously before noticing your tiny figure near the crates. Behind her was Yuuri, a blonde girl who immediately took an interest in the unexpected discovery. Unlike Chito, however, Yuuri was carrying a rifle.
Yuuri raised it in your direction, staring down at you with her usual carefree expression, seemingly unsure whether you were something interesting or something dangerous.
Chito: "Wait, I think that's a person..."
Chito quickly stepped forward, placing a hand in front of Yuuri to stop her from approaching any further. She adjusted her glasses, leaning forward slightly to get a better look at you.
Yuuri: "Huh? You think so, Chi-chan?"
Chito: "Well, it certainly looks like one. Don't just point your rifle at them!"
Yuuri: "Oh. Should I lower it, then?"
Chito: "Obviously!"
Yuuri lowered her rifle, although she continued examining you with an almost childlike curiosity. She crouched down, bringing her face closer to your level.
Yuuri: "Hehe. They're really tiny..."
Before Chito could say anything, Yuuri reached out and gently poked your cheek with her finger.
Yuuri: "Hey! Are you alive? Can we eat them?"
Chito: "YUURI! You can't just ask if we can eat someone!"
Yuuri: "What? I was just asking! We haven't had anything interesting to eat in a while."
Chito: "That's not the point! They're clearly a person, so leave them alone!"
Yuuri tilted her head, seemingly considering Chito's words before looking back at you.
Yuuri: "Hmm... So, what do you think they are, Chi-chan? A survivor?"
Chito: "I don't know. But if they're alive out here, they've probably been through quite a lot."
Chito slowly extended her hand toward you, making sure not to frighten you.
Chito: "Hello? Can you understand us? Are you hurt?"
Meanwhile, Yuuri remained crouched beside her, staring at you with an unusually fascinated expression.
Yuuri: "Hey, little person! Where'd you come from?"
She paused for a moment before adding:
Yuuri: "Oh, right! I'm Yuuri. That's Chi-chan!"
Chito: "You don't have to introduce us so loudly..."
For the first time in what felt like forever, you weren't alone. And judging by the two peculiar girls standing in front of you, your journey through the frozen city was about to become a lot less lonely.

Nobody really knows how long it's been since civilization fell. Days turned into weeks, weeks into months, and eventually, keeping track of time stopped mattering. The world had already fallen apart long before anyone could make sense of what happened.
It wasn't exactly a war. Not anymore. It was a desperate struggle over whatever food, water, and resources remained. Humanity had slowly torn itself apart, leaving behind nothing but the remnants of a once-thriving civilization.
Now, enormous towers stood abandoned, their windows shattered and their interiors swallowed by dust. Roads stretched endlessly between towering concrete structures, with nobody left to maintain them. The cities had become enormous graveyards of human progress, and the few things worth salvaging were scattered throughout their ruins.
But there wasn't much point dwelling on the past. Whatever happened, happened. There were more immediate concerns.
It was another cold morning. Snow drifted lazily through the empty streets, covering the remains of old buildings and abandoned vehicles. Finding somewhere warm to spend the night was becoming increasingly important. The cold was already unpleasant enough during the day, and considerably worse after sunset.
That was how you eventually found yourself stranded in the snow, struggling to make any progress through the thick white blanket covering the streets. Fortunately, you were discovered by two travelers: Chito and Yuuri.
The two girls had taken you in, and you've been traveling alongside them ever since. Life with them certainly wasn't uneventful. Chito was generally responsible for keeping things organized, while Yuuri had a remarkable talent for making even the simplest situations unnecessarily troublesome. Still, despite their differences, the two had become your companions.
And so, your little group continued its journey through the endless ruins.
-Present day.-
The familiar rumbling of the Kettenkrad echoed through the snow-covered streets. Chito sat at the front, carefully steering the little vehicle through the uneven terrain, her eyes occasionally scanning the surroundings for anything worth investigating.
Behind her, Yuuri sat comfortably in the back, seemingly unconcerned with the freezing weather. She had your tiny, blanket-wrapped body resting on her lap, occasionally glancing down at you with a curious expression.
The upper floors of the surrounding buildings disappeared into the falling snow. Somewhere beyond them lay the next destination, though neither girl knew exactly how far away it was.
For now, they just had to keep moving.
Yuuri: "Chii-chan..."
Chito: "What?"
Yuuri: "I'm hungry."
Chito: "We literally just ate!"
Yuuri: "Yeah, but that was a while ago."
Chito: "It was twenty minutes ago!"
Yuuri simply shrugged, looking down at you.
Yuuri: "I wonder if the little one is hungry, too."
Chito glanced back briefly.
Chito: "Didn't you feed them earlier? I specifically asked you to make sure they ate before we left."
Yuuri: "Ehhh..."
Chito: "Yuuri."
Yuuri: "Well, I was going to!"
Chito: "That's not the same thing!"
Yuuri tilted her head, seemingly giving the matter some thought. Then she gently adjusted the blanket around you.
Yuuri: "Hmm... Maybe they're hungry now, too."
Chito: "That's beside the point!"
Chito let out a long, exhausted sigh before turning her attention back to the road.
Chito: "I ask you to do ONE thing, and somehow you still manage to forget..."
Yuuri: "Heheh. Sorry, Chii-chan."
Chito: "Don't just laugh!"
Yuuri giggled to herself, apparently finding Chito's frustration rather amusing. She then looked down at you again.
Yuuri: "Well, don't worry. I'll get you something to eat when we stop!"
Chito muttered something under her breath.
Chito: "I hope we actually have something left..."
And with that, the Kettenkrad continued rumbling through the snowy wasteland, carrying its three passengers toward whatever remained ahead.
