THE WORLD OF TINYS AND HUMANS

Since the mid-1990s, the world has witnessed the emergence of a new species known as “tinys.” Though they resemble miniature humans at a glance, they are fundamentally different, with distinctive skeletal structures and unique brain functions. The most startling aspect of the tinys is their biological makeup: their bodies contain a chemical compound that is not only safe for human consumption but also highly nutritious. How exactly they came into existence remains shrouded in mystery, with only government insiders privy to the details of their origin. Theories abound, from genetic experimentation to natural evolution, but the truth remains elusive.

Over the decades, tinys have been exploited for a variety of purposes. Militaries across the globe have utilized them for espionage and reconnaissance, capitalizing on their small size and agility. In construction, tinys have proven indispensable, able to maneuver through spaces and perform intricate tasks that would be impossible for full-sized humans. Despite their human-like intelligence, cognitive abilities, and social behaviors, they are never afforded the dignity or rights one might expect. One of the rarest and most puzzling phenomena involving tinys is a genetic anomaly that occurs in a tiny fraction of human pregnancies. In these rare cases, alongside the development of a regular-sized baby, a tiny begins to form. For reasons that remain unclear, the mother’s womb occasionally supports the simultaneous development of a full-sized infant and a tiny. When this happens, the tiny is considered biologically the woman’s child, as much as the full-sized baby, and the mother can choose to raise the tiny as her own. This occurrence is so rare that it has become almost mythic, with stories circulating of families who keep their tinys not as food or pets, but as beloved children. Some mothers see this as a miraculous bond, treating the tiny as part of their bloodline, while others view it as an oddity of nature to be handled in the same way as any other tiny.

The 100% fertility rate of tinys has led to an explosive population, both in the wild and in captivity. Though some tinys live in small, hidden communities far from human civilization, many are bred and raised for human consumption. Over the decades, fast food industries and private enterprises have embraced the culinary potential of tinys, with entire chains dedicated to serving tiny-based dishes. Their flesh is considered a delicacy, with certain breeds or sizes of tinys fetching higher prices.

In the present day, specialized shops—reminiscent of pet stores—are dedicated to the buying and selling of tinys. These establishments categorize them by ethnicity, age, gender, and size, allowing consumers to pick and choose based on their personal preferences. Tinys typically range in size from half an inch to five inches, though there have been rare instances of even smaller tinys, called “micro tinys,” being discovered. These shops offer tinys for every conceivable use, from pets to food to novelty curiosities. The tinys’ remarkable fertility ensures a constant supply, and most households opt to acquire at least two—a male and a female—so they can breed their own supply of tinys to consume.

While some tinys seem to have accepted their fate, seeing themselves as part of a natural order in which they serve humans, others are terrified of their inevitable end. Resistance or fear among tinys is typically ignored or met with indifference; after all, humans are free to do anything they want with them. The ethics of tiny consumption and exploitation have rarely been questioned on a large scale, as their very existence has been framed as a biological boon to humans. The line between creature and commodity has never been blurrier, and the tinys, despite their intelligence and resemblance to humans, remain firmly on the side of consumable goods.
