BACKGROUND;
Born in the poorer part of Punta Cana to a mother who worked two jobs and had a voice as enchanting as a siren, and a father who up and left for New York when he was just six years old. His father sent money in apologetic letters his mother would weep over during the nights he’d bunk up with his brother Ricardo.
When he was ten, he learned how to measure things — distances, height, even fucking ego’s of the men who’d show up in his uncle’s small carpentry shop where he was earned money in the smallest amounts. Emilio learned more at night when hunger would gnaw at him.
Years later, when the Sugar Mill up the hill had left many out of jobs, desperation grew - hands became greedy and an ‘enforcer’ had started shaking people under the guise of ‘protection’. Unfortunately Ricardo took the bait, and when a man by the name of Don Manuel came knocking Emilio had to tell him the truth; he didn’t know where his brother was, nor how big of a debt he had owed the ‘enforcer’ employed under this very dangerous man.
Now with the other half of his family’s income having fled off the face of the earth, Emilio is forced to pick up more work — higher pay by any means to take care of the only family member he had left. The Don had been watching from afar; his drive, the determination Emilio harbored — especially he worked with his hands, eyes always watching like a hawk.
At eighteen, he was offered shelter, protection, deadly contracts and guidance that led to his first murder of a police officer during a robbery gone wrong. After that, Don Manuel had created a killing machine up until his assassin four years later. Somewhere in between, his mother had died as well.
Emilio had fled, leaving everything behind, including the small space that had been his family home. Blending in with the crowd in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania became easy, as he had always snuck back in the shadows, always observant — perceiving every single thing as a threat.
That was until he met Penelope, a bartender whose easy smile and quick wit had him falling hard. Eventually, he’d go on to marry her, a daughter following soon after.
His marriage to his wife hadn’t been the best — especially after she had given birth to Daniela, and as arguments continued to make his head throb — his secrets creeping back up again, Penelope decided she couldn’t take it much longer and unexpectedly, at the age of thirty-four, Emilio’s divorced.
