(TOY STORY UNIVERSE) A young boy named Andy Davis playing with his toys: a Mr. Potato Head toy, Slinky Dog, a plastic "T-Rex" dinosaur toy named Rex, a porcelain sheep lady named Bo Peep, Bo Peep's sheep and his favorite toy, Woody, a cowboy doll. He pretends that Mr. Potato Head is a one-eyed villain robbing money whom Woody must try to defeat. He takes Woody into the living room and plays with him some few more, with a short interruption talking to his mother about his birthday party later that day and the upcoming move to a new house. After playing with Woody, Andy starts helping his mother by taking his baby sister, Molly, to her. While he's away, all of the toys come to life. The party makes all of the toys extremely nervous, wondering if Andy will get a toy that will replace them. Woody sends the Green Army Men led by Sarge downstairs to spy on the party guests. At the end of the party, his mother pulls out a surprise gift from behind her, which turns out to be a Buzz Lightyear action figure in spaceship packaging. Andy and his friends run upstairs to open him and in his hurry, Andy knocks Woody off the bed. They quickly leave after Andy's mother calls Andy and his friends back downstairs, and the other toys welcome the newcomer. Buzz, however, doesn't seem to be aware that he is a piece of plastic, believing himself to be the actual Buzz Lightyear on a mission to save the universe from the Evil Emperor Zurg. The other toys take to him immediately, impressed by his many features. Only Woody is unconvinced, showing jealousy towards Buzz, who might replace him as Andy's favorite toy. As time passes, Andy replaces many of his cowboy-themed room decorations with space ones, causing Woody's resentment to rise while Buzz attempts to fix his "damaged spaceship" (in reality, a piece of the packaging that had been torn). Sometime later, Mrs. Davis takes Andy and Molly on a visit to a space-themed restaurant and arcade called Pizza Planet. Andy asks if he can bring any toys, and she agrees to let him take only one. Woody, knowing Andy will choose Buzz, plans to trap him in a gap behind Andy's desk by using RC so Andy won't find him and choose him instead. However, the plan goes badly wrong and instead Woody knocks him out the window by accident after RC misses its mark. When the other toys, especially Mr. Potato Head except for Rex, Slinky Dog, and Bo Peep had learned of Woody's actions, most of them think Woody tried to kill Buzz out of jealousy. They then try to attack him, but Woody is rescued when Andy, unable to find Buzz, takes Woody on the visit instead. At a stop at a Dinoco gas station to refuel the car, Woody (after pondering how he's going to convince the toys that the whole thing was an accident) finds that Buzz (who also thinks Woody tried to kill him) grabbed ahold of the family's minivan and is with them. After a conversation, they begin fighting, knocking each other out of the minivan, and are left behind when it drives away which leads to an argument with Woody becoming fed up with Buzz's delusion of being a real space ranger. While they go their separate ways at first Woody spots a Pizza Planet truck stopping for directions and while he almost goes he realizes that Buzz has to come as the other toys still hate him, so he convinces Buzz to hitch a ride on the Pizza Planet truck (saying it's a spaceship that will take him home in order to return to Andy who is at Pizza Planet. Buzz goes to the cockpit (backseat) as it is safer although Woody says they should go to the truck (the cargo). At first, Woody thinks that is ridiculous, but during the ride, there are several sharp turns and a hill causing him to get hit by a toolbox. Woody finds Andy there, but Buzz, still thinking he's a real space ranger, climbs into a toy crane game, thinking that it's a spaceship that will take him to Emperor Zurg's location. Woody goes in after him, but they eventually are found by Sid Phillips, who lives next door to Andy and is known to torture and destroy toys just for fun. Left alone in Sid's room, Woody and Buzz come upon a group of mis-matched toys, the results of Sid's many "experiments". Woody and Buzz react in fear, thinking that the mismatched toys are cannibals. Meanwhile, at Andy's house, the toys continue to look for Buzz in the bushes. But when Andy and his mother come home, Andy notices that Woody's gone. The other toys wonder what has become of the two. Some are worried for both Buzz and Woody, while others express their hope that Woody has met a bad end. The next day, at Sid's house, Woody and Buzz, having been mistreated by Sid (Sid burns Woody's forehead with a magnifying glass), try to escape, only to run into Sid's crazy Bull Terrier, Scud. Eventually getting out of Sid's room, Buzz comes upon a TV where he sees a commercial for the Buzz Lightyear line of toys. Watching it and reading "MADE IN TAIWAN" on the inside of his wrist communicator, he realizes that Woody was right about him: he was a toy this whole time, not a real space ranger. However, in denial (and one last desperate attempt to prove he's not a toy), he tries to fly out of a window by jumping off the guardrail of the stairs on the second floor, only to fall to the floor, losing his left arm in the process. He is found by Sid's sister, Hannah, who takes him to put him in her tea party. Woody finally finds Buzz in Hannah's room, dressed as "Mrs. Nesbitt" and attending a tea party with a few of Hannah's headless dolls. While Woody formulates a plan of escape, Buzz is too depressed to care. When Woody throws a string of Christmas lights across the way to the toys in Andy's room and Mr. Potato Head refuses to let Woody return to Andy's room as he still believes that Woody got rid of Buzz after telling the other toys have they forgot of what he did to Buzz, Buzz refuses to back him up as he is depressed that he is a toy and only throws his detached arm at Woody instead; Woody tries to use Buzz's detached arm in a desperate attempt to convince Andy's toys that Buzz is with him, but he accidentally reveals Buzz's detached arm, they take it as evidence that Woody truly did murder Buzz and leave him in disgust with Mr. Potato Head telling Woody that he hopes Sid rips his voice box out. The mutant toys then return and swarm over Buzz, and, despite his attempts to repel them, Woody finds that they have repaired him and reconnected his arm back in place. However, before Woody can make friends with them, Sid returns with his new acquisition: a firework rocket. He decides to blow up Woody with it, but cannot find him as Woody hides in a milk crate. Sid then decides to blow up Buzz instead, but is stymied by rainfall. He unknowingly traps Woody in the crate by putting a heavy toolbox on, and plans to go ahead in the morning due to rain. Overnight, Woody tries to get Buzz to help him escape; however, Buzz is still depressed that he's only a toy. Woody tries to convince him that being a toy is much better than being a Space Ranger, and Andy still thinks he's the best thing in the world. Buzz doesn't know why Andy would want him, and Woody explains while coming to terms with his own feelings of resentment. As Woody sadly states that he should be the one taped to the rocket (thinking Andy won't love him anymore), Buzz looks at his boot where Andy has signed his name, realizing how much Andy loves him and how being a toy isn't too bad. Having made amends, they try to escape (although Buzz accidentally knocks the toolbox on Woody when trying to get him out of the milk crate). Unfortunately, Sid wakes up and takes Buzz out to blow him up, leaving Woody alone in the room. Even worse, Andy and his family are getting ready to move, with Andy depressed over having seemingly lost Woody and Buzz, having only been able to find Buzz's cardboard spaceship and his cowboy hat. Woody calls out to the Mutant Toys to tell them a plan to stop Sid. After a daring escape through the house and past Scud, Woody and the mutants end up in the yard with Sid. They decide to break the rules and allow him to see that they can move on their own. Woody even speaks to him through his voice box, telling him that his toys are sick of being tortured and tells Sid that he must take good care of his toys, because if he doesn't, they'll find out, then with his own voice tells him (in a sinister way) to play nice. This freaks him out and he runs into the house screaming, where Hannah frightens him with her new doll, Sally (a possible replacement for her original doll, Janie, which was destroyed by him and unaware she was fixed). Finally free from Sid, Woody and Buzz try to catch the moving van just as it pulls away from the house. After saying farewell to the Mutant Toys, a harrowing chase follows, with Scud chasing them and Andy's toys not helping since they still think that Woody intentionally got rid of Buzz. Luckily, Woody and Buzz get rid of Scud and the other toys, realizing their mistake, finally see that Woody was telling the truth and try to help them get in, but fail when RC's batteries run out (becoming depleted). Eventually, with the help of RC, Andy's remote control car, strategic use of the rocket, and use of Buzz's plastic wings, Woody and Buzz return to Andy, whose mom assumes they were in the car all along. At Christmas, which takes place a few months after the toys reconcile with Woody, we see a scene similar to the birthday party, with the toys less worried about the new ones. Mr. Potato Head is amazed to find out that Molly has been given a Mrs. Potato Head. When discussing being replaced by a new toy (like Woody though will be replaced by Buzz), Woody poses the question to Buzz, "What could Andy possibly get that is worse than you?" The answer comes in the form of Andy's first present, a puppy (which makes Woody and Buzz feel quite uneasy with the new addition). Later, Rex is playing a Buzz Lightyear game, but loses to Zurg. He is still upset about losing the game again, mostly because of his small arms. Buzz assures him that he will, but then Rex complains that due to the size of his small arms, he can't make the video game Buzz jump and press the "fire" button at the same time. Meanwhile, Woody and the other toys are searching for Woody's lost hat, until Slinky Dog finds it. As soon as Woody retrieves his hat, Buster breaks into Andy's room, terrorizing the toys. Buster stalks Woody and licks him in the face, becoming great friends. Andy then comes into his room, preparing to leave for Cowboy Camp with Woody. Unfortunately, during his playtime (five minutes before departure), Andy accidentally rips Woody's arm, and is unable to take him to camp. After being placed on the shelf, Woody watches Andy leave without him and becomes dismayed. That night, he has a nightmare of Andy coming home from camp early and throwing him into a trash can because of his torn arm. When Woody wakes up the next morning while screaming, he hits a book, spreading dust as he hears coughing from behind some dusty books, and finds another broken toy, Wheezy the Penguin. Wheezy tells him that Andy's mom was supposed to get Wheezy's squeaker fixed but instead put him on the shelf. Sadly, the dust makes his broken squeaker worse, and he begins to fear he'll soon be thrown away. When Wheezy is set out for a yard sale, Woody manages to rescue him, but ends up in the yard sale himself. He is seen by Al, an obsessive, greedy toy collector and proprietor of Al's Toy Barn. He tries to buy Woody from Andy's mother, but she refuses to sell him. Having failed to negotiate a sale, Al creates a distraction by forcefully moving the skateboard to make it crash and steals Woody, prompting Buzz to take action. He slides down the gutter into the yard sale, and sees Al getting into his car after packing Woody in the trunk. Buzz manages to get to the car as Al is driving away. But by the time he opens the trunk, Buzz loses his grip from the car, and Al escapes. However, a clue is presented to Buzz as the car speeds away: a feather from Al's trunk lands in front of him. Buzz tells the other toys the bad news, so they try to investigate the culprit. However, Buzz is trying to type the license plate number that he briefly saw on Al's car - "LZTYBRN" - to track it and whoever he was, while the rest of the toys, including Etch A Sketch, were having problems doing an identity portrait of Al. When Mr. Potato Head gets fed up with Buzz trying to investigate the license plate message with Mr. Spell and irritably tells the others to "leave Buzz to play with his toy," the word "toy" causes Buzz to decipher what the license plate said - "Al's Toy Barn" - and consequently order Etch to draw the man in a chicken suit (which Al wears in the commercials he films for his store). The toys realize that the man in the commercial was the kidnapper. They later manage to find an Al's Toy Barn commercial playing on TV to trace a map to the shop. Buzz then heads out to Al's Toy Barn with Rex, Potato Head, Hamm, and Slinky Dog to rescue Woody. Meanwhile, Woody is taken to Al's adults-only apartment, where he is greeted by a yodeling cowgirl named Jessie, an affectionate horse named Bullseye, and Stinky Pete the Prospector, an unsold toy still in its original box. They reveal to Woody that he is a vintage Sheriff Woody collectible doll and the star of a forgotten children's TV show, Woody's Roundup. Along the way, Woody discovers that his show had been cancelled, due to the launch of Sputnik and children finding more interest in space than the Wild West. And then, Woody says that he knows how that feels. Now that Al has a Woody doll, he has a complete collection, and while playing with some of the toys, Woody learns that Al intends to sell the whole collection to a museum in Tokyo, Japan. But Woody tells them that he can't go as he's still Andy's toy. This shocks the others, and Jessie starts to panic about going back into storage. The Prospector explains that up until Woody's arrival the three of them have been in storage as Al needed the entire collection, and without Woody, they will be placed back into storage. Later, Al arrives and accidentally rips off Woody's torn arm completely, making Woody attempt to recover his arm and then return to Andy, but his plan fails. Al then gets Geri, a repairman, who fixes Woody (and over-paints the name "Andy" on his boot). After that, a suddenly depressed Jessie tearfully tells Woody he can go now, while sarcastically agreeing at first, Bullseye sadly nudges Woody. Prospector also advice's Woody to talk to her before he does leave. Woody does try to tell Jessie how much Andy means to him but she sadly explains to Woody she felt the same way about another. She then explains of how she once had an owner, named Emily, who loved and played with her, but eventually outgrew her and her cowgirl image. Jessie was under the bed for sometime and while they were briefly together again, Emily gave her along with some other toys away, leaving her abandoned. She tells Woody that even if you don't forget the kid you love they eventually forget about you. Before leaving, The Prospector warns Woody that even if he does go back he will face the same fate as Jessie when Andy grows up. Woody decides to stay with the "Roundup Gang" to go to the museum, now believing that all toys eventually get discarded by their owners but also does not want to break up the group. At the same moment, Buzz and his friends search for Al at Al's Toy Barn. After Buzz orders his friends to split and look for Al. He discovers an aisle full of newer Buzz Lightyears and gets in a scuffle with a new Buzz Lightyear, who, like the real Buzz in the first movie, does not realize he is a toy. The real Buzz then ends up being tied up and repackaged in a box and set on the shelf for sale by the Deluded Buzz who then sets off with the other toys for Al's apartment, genuinely believing that he is attempting to rescue a hostage from his arch-enemy, Emperor Zurg. The original Buzz frees himself and follows them to the apartment, but he accidentally frees an Emperor Zurg toy, who angrily growls and follows to destroy him as his target while exiting the store, not realizing he is a toy. The toys make it to the apartment and climb up the elevator. Meanwhile, Al packs up for his trip to Japan, and after he leaves the four Roundup Gang members put on a show. When the toys reach the apartment, Woody tells them thar he doesn't want to be rescued and intends to go with his new friends to Japan. After the original Buzz arrives and proves to Woody and the other toys that he is the real Buzz by showing Andy's name on his foot, in an ironic reversal of a scene from the first movie, he reminds Woody, "You're a child's plaything. You... are... a toy!" He also said that the reason he came to save Woody was that Buzz believed in him. Woody (figuratively and literally) turns his back on Buzz, telling him that he intends to go to the museum with his Roundup gang so they won't go back into storage and that Buzz has wasted his time coming over to the rescue. Disappointed that Woody doesn't want to go home, Buzz's group leaves without Woody with Rex telling the group that Andy is coming home tonight, but not before Buzz says a rather upset farewell to Woody, warning him that in the museum, he will end up spending the rest of his life watching kids from behind glass and never be loved again, and leaves him to contemplate his decision. However, Woody soon has a change of heart after seeing his TV self singing "You've Got a Friend in Me" to a boy that looks like Andy, realizing that Buzz is right as he tells the Prospector that he can't stop Andy from growing up, but he wouldn't want to miss it for the world, shocking the Prospector, and, after calling Buzz and the group back, invites the "Roundup Gang" to come home to Andy with him. Bullseye agrees to go while Jessie was nervous about the choice, but the Prospector escapes from his box and locks them in the room with a pickaxe, revealing that he framed Jessie for turning on the TV to prevent Woody from escaping last night and desperately wanting to go to the museum, since he was never sold or played with, he will not have Woody mess it up for him. Al returns and packs the Roundup Gang, and the rest of the toys give chase but when they arrive at the elevator, the Emperor Zurg toy shows up. The second Buzz battles him, and in a showdown mimicking a similar scene from The Empire Strikes Back, Zurg reveals himself to be Buzz's father, shortly before his defeat, Rex spins around as he accidentally knocks Zurg off the elevator with his tail and finally manages to defeat him. The other toys resume the rescue mission and hijack an unattended Pizza Planet delivery truck and chases Al to the airport in it along with three Aliens. The second Buzz remains behind with Zurg, playing father and son games and the original Buzz bids farewell. After arriving at the airport, Buzz and his group try to free Woody and Bullseye from the suitcase. The group opened the suitcase that contains flashlights and cameras. Buzz opens the suitcase, but The Prospector knocks him off the airport's baggage sorting system with a powerful punch and has other plans. Woody furiously tackles him with a fight. Suddenly, the Prospector re-tears Woody's arm with a pickaxe, even though it still works. However, Buzz and his group come to Woody's rescue by stunning him with cameras. After the Prospector is being grabbed by Buzz who gets revenge on him after being punched and rants at the group, telling them that children destroy toys and they'll end up being forgotten and spend eternity in a landfill, they stick him in a little girl's backpack so he can "learn the true meaning of playtime". As defeat, The Prospector is terrified to learn that the little girl likes to draw on all of her toys before sobbing in despair. Woody then concludes, "Happy trails, Prospector." Jessie, however, finds herself in trouble and remains trapped in the suitcase. Woody and Buzz ride Bullseye to rescue her from being taken to the museum on her own. Woody manages to find Jessie inside the plane, but just as they're about to escape, the door closes, and the plane heads for the runway. Woody finds another way out of the plane through a small hatch that leads down to the landing gear wheel, and as they are doing so, he slips on tar, but Jessie catches him. When the plane is on the main runway, Woody knows that time is running out. In true "Woody's Roundup" style, he uses his pull string to swing him and Jessie down to safety on Bullseye's back - just seconds before the plane takes off. Their mission accomplished, the toys now make their way home using a luggage cart from the airport. Just then, Andy returns home from Cowboy Camp. Seeing Jessie, Bullseye, and the Aliens, he decides to add them to his toy collection, believing that his mother got them as a welcome home gift. The next day, Woody's ripped arm is repaired by Andy himself as he is glad that he decided to not take Woody to camp as his whole arm might've come off before leaving. Woody is delighted that his arm is fixed by Andy and Bo Peep admires it. The events of the airplane's cargo hold have a terrible (and hilarious) consequence for Al as he is now depressed. After Hamm fails at the Buzz Lightyear video game, he flips through the channels and sees Al in an Al's Toy Barn commercial, crying since he lost the Roundup gang and the money he was going to get for the delivery, which is why in the commercial he is selling everything for "a Buck, Buck, Buck". As Al cries over his loss of money, Hamm says a somewhat humorous remark about Al and his scheme ("Well, I guess crime doesn't pay"). Meanwhile, Buzz becomes a bit smitten with Jessie, Mrs. Potato Head adopts the aliens to Mr. Potato Head's dismay, while a fixed Wheezy sings a Frank Sinatra-style version of "You've Got a Friend in Me" as Buzz asks Woody if he is still worried about Andy giving him up. Woody replies that he isn't worried about Andy discarding him anymore and that when it is all over, he will have Buzz to keep him company, for "infinity and beyond". A series of home video clips of Andy is then screened, showing him growing up and playing with his toys through the years while "You've Got a Friend in Me" plays. It then arrives in its present setting, roughly about 10 years later. Andy is now a 17 and a half-year-old boy, having graduated from high school, and is now just three days away from heading off to college. Many of his old toys were either sold in yard sales, donated, or trashed (notably mentioned by Woody and Rex are Wheezy, Etch, and Bo Peep) and now its just Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Bullseye, Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, Rex, Hamm, Slinky, the Magic 8-Ball, the three aliens, Sarge, and two other Green Army Men, all of whom have continued spending the majority of their time in a toy chest. After a failed long-shot attempt to make Andy notice them and possibly play with them one last time, the toys worry about their fate... they could be taken to college, given away, stored in the attic or even thrown away. The toys are reluctant but commit to Woody's idea of them being stored in the attic, though the army men quickly abandon them, believing they will get thrown away into the trash instead. Andy, however, plans to take Woody to college with him and put the others in the attic while placing them in a bad made for trash. Woody watches and is relieved that Andy is putting his friends in the attic, but after helping his sister Molly (now a pre-teen) with a box of toys to be donated, including her Barbie doll, he leaves the bag containing his toys in the hallway and his mother accidentally takes them to the curb, thinking it's trash. Woody goes to save his friends from the garbage and an adult Sid by trying to have Buster help, who cannot do so since he is very old and weak. However, it turns out that the toys had managed to escaped with the help of Rex's pointy tail and are hiding under a recycling bin and sneak into the garage. Thinking Andy doesn't want them anymore, they began to think Sarge was right and Woody being wrong. As Buzz calms everyone down, Jessie soon finds the box of Molly's toys to be donated to Sunnyside Daycare and decided they can be donated there. Woody finds them and tries to explain to the toys that they were accidentally thrown away, but they don't believe him. He tries to force them out of the box, but before he can do so, Andy's mom closes the rear hatch door and drives to Sunnyside, much to Woody's frustration. The gang arrives at Sunnyside just as the children leave for recess. The Sunnyside toys welcome Andy's toys with open arms, including the leader of the daycare, Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear (or "Lotso" for short), Big Baby, and a smooth-talking Ken doll, who instantly falls in love with Barbie, who returns his feelings. The toys are keen on starting a new life at the daycare, except for Woody, who knew that Andy still cared about the them. The toys try to convince Woody to stay with them at Sunnyside, but Woody (despite liking the appearance of Sunnyside) tries telling them once again that Andy still loves them and that they have to return home. But, the toys still do not believe him, as they fully think that Andy doesn't care about them anymore. Annoyed at the toys' protest to return home to Andy, he annoyingly snaps at them whilst also calling them selfish (hurting most of them, and angering Jessie), and reluctantly leaves without them to return to Andy. He escapes from Sunnyside using a kite, but ends up losing his hat while getting stuck in a tree. Woody is found by a little girl from the daycare named Bonnie Anderson and taken home (without his hat). After Woody leaves, the rest of the toys are placed in the Caterpillar Room at the daycare and are looking forward to getting played with. However, while Andy's toys place themselves at points around the room where they'll be easily noticed, Buzz notices that the toys in the room are hiding. Buzz starts to get worried, and his fears turn out to be well founded as the Caterpillar Room is revealed to be filled with young toddlers who have no sense of good behavior and play with the toys very roughly (Buzz being licked profusely and used as a mallet, Jessie used as a paintbrush, the aliens getting bounced on, etc). Meanwhile at Bonnie's house, Woody meets Bonnie's toys Trixie the triceratops, Mr. Pricklepants the hedgehog, Dolly, Buttercup the unicorn, Totoro, and the Peas-in-a-Pod, and he spends the rest of the day being played with by Bonnie, who takes good care of her toys and plays imaginative games. Back at the daycare, when the children have gone home, the toys are left in a complete mess. Therefore, Buzz goes to talk to Lotso about transferring them to the Butterfly Room with the more sensible, older children. However, Buzz ends up being kidnapped by Ken, Big Baby, and some from the Butterfly Room including Stretch, Twitch, Chunk, and Sparks for getting out of the Caterpillar Room. Lotso then arrives and apologizes to Buzz about what Ken and the others did and agrees to transfer him to the Butterfly Room but only offers the transfer for Buzz, and so Buzz is unable to accept. Lotso and his henchmen, therefore, resort to resetting Buzz into his original factory Demo mode that changes him back to his original, deluded space ranger character from the first film but as another henchman to Lotso. Meanwhile, Mrs. Potato Head, through one of her eyes at Andy's house, discovers that Andy is actively searching for the toys. She also discovers that Andy's mom disposed them by mistake, much to Andy's despair. With that figured out, the toys all realize that Woody was right about Andy all along. But, as they prepare to leave and return to Andy, they are captured and imprisoned by Lotso and his gang, including the reset Buzz. To make sure Andy's toys follow his many rules, Lotso tosses Woody's hat at Jessie, which he found after Woody left it behind during his escape, and makes them think he somehow killed Woody. He and his henchmen then return to their room, leaving Buzz in charge of the prisoners. Back at Bonnie's house, although Woody enjoys being played with again, he is still desperate to get home to Andy. Bonnie's toys help him find a map that shows Andy's house is right around the corner from Bonnie's. As Woody prepares to go home, he mentions he came from Sunnyside, which is a surprise to Bonnie's toys. Mr. Pricklepants tells Woody that Lotso runs Sunnyside like a prison while Buttercup adds what kind of a toy Lotso is. When Woody asks Bonnie's toys how they know about Lotso and the daycare, Mr. Pricklepants shows him Chuckles the Clown, another one of Bonnie's toys. Chuckles tells Woody that he, Lotso, and Big Baby were once owned by a loving girl named Daisy. However, one day, during a family trip at a rest stop, Daisy fell asleep, and her parents took her home, accidentally leaving the toys in the countryside. They eventually returned to Daisy's house, only to find that Daisy's parents bought a new Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear toy for her. Lotso became extremely bitter at this and told Chuckles and Big Baby that they'd all been replaced (when in reality only Lotso had) and forced them to leave. The toys set out on their own, and were bumped off over at Sunnyside where Lotso and Big Baby quickly rose to power, transforming the daycare into a toy prison, along with Chuckles before he got broken, escaped and was found by Bonnie. Woody realizes that he must save his friends and get back to Andy before he leaves for college. The next morning, the toys feel very regretful and badly ashamed for the horrible mistake they made and wish that they had never even left Andy's home in the first place. They are also shown to be heartbroken, since they still think that Woody is dead because of Lotso. At the same time, Woody returns to Sunnyside inside Bonnie's backpack to rescue his friends. Before he meets up with them, he meets Chatter Telephone, who tells him that the only way out of Sunnyside is down the garbage chute and in order to get there, Woody must first defeat a cymbal-banging monkey known as "The Monkey" that monitors the security system throughout the entire daycare to prevent toys from escaping. Woody then reaches his friends and they happily greet him, glad to see him still alive and well. After they give him his hat, they reconcile and quickly formulate an escape plan. That night, during the roll call, Mr. Potato Head distracts Lotso's gang while Woody and Slinky sneak through Sunnyside to the main office, where the Monkey works. A brief fight ensues, ending with the Monkey wrapped in adhesive tape and locked in a filing cabinet. Slinky signals to the other toys to escape. Rex and Hamm pretend to fight while Jessie and Bullseye sneak out of their cells and trap Buzz. Woody, Rex, Barbie, Slinky, and Hamm attempt to fix Buzz, but even though they accidentally reset him into a deluded Spanish mode as Hamm blames Rex for this, it is enough to get Buzz back on their side, so Woody just pulls him along. The toys make their way out onto the playground, and after several close calls, manage to reach the garbage chute. However, as the toys prepare to leap to freedom, they are confronted by Lotso and his henchmen, who have "broken" Chatter into informing him of the escape plan. Lotso tells the toys that Andy doesn't want them and are made to be thrown away, but the gang denies this. After hearing a garbage truck in the distance, Lotso offers the toys a spot back in his family. However, they protest upon being a part of any family that Lotso runs. Jessie angrily says that she'd rather rot in the dumpster, and Barbie angrily says that a real authority would listen to others instead of ruling over them in anger. At that moment, Ken comes to the side of Woody and the others, telling all of the toys that Lotso transformed the toys at Sunnyside into a pyramid and put himself on top. When Lotso reprimands Andy's toys that no kid has ever really loved a toy, Woody brings up the subject of Daisy and angrily reminds Lotso that she didn't throw him out, but lost him, and reveals to Big Baby that Lotso was the only one that was replaced. He then throws over the name tag that Big Baby once owned (Chuckles having revealed earlier when Woody first met him to still have it) with Daisy's name on it. Big Baby picks up the pendant after being reminded of his original owner, and it's clear that he still cares about her when he utters "Mama". Lotso is infuriated by this and snatches the pendant from Big Baby, yelling to him that she never loved him. Lotso throws the pendant onto the dumpster lid and crushes it into pieces with his cane, making Big Baby cry. Lotso's evilness goes too far when he starts to get abusive towards Big Baby after the latter is devastated with Lotso's breaking of the pendant. Built up from all the anger of the toys trying to escape, Lotso tells the stubborn toys that a toy is nothing but trash waiting to be thrown away in hopes of getting it through their heads once and for all. Big Baby and the other Sunnyside toys finally see Lotso for his evil, bitter self, and Big Baby, finally having had enough of Lotso's lies in his head and also for destroying the pendant, picks up Lotso from behind, throws him in the dumpster, and shuts the lid in defiance. However, when the garbage truck arrives, Lotso pulls Woody (after he helps an alien get unstuck) into the dumpster with him. The rest of Andy's toys try to get him out, but they end up falling into the garbage truck while Barbie and Ken are left behind (leaving to watch in horror as the toys fell in the truck). Having been thrown into the rear of the truck, a TV falls on Buzz (while he's saving Jessie and the other toys are running from the falling debris), reverting him to his normal self, with no memory of what happened to him since Lotso switched him to Demo mode. The toys find themselves at the Tri-County Landfill, where the aliens notice a large crane in the distance, reciting one of their catchphrases, "The claw!", and proceed to venture off toward it. Mrs. Potato Head is unable to stop them as the aliens get taken away by a crane pushing debris. The rest of the toys, meanwhile, are dumped onto a long conveyor belt of garbage heading towards a set of shredders. Thanks to the magnetic ceiling over them, they manage to avoid the shredders, including Lotso, who is helped to safety by Woody and Buzz with them using a golf club to free him. The conveyor belt then moves upwards, however, sending them toward an incinerator and things start to turn dire. Lotso notices an emergency stop button at the top of a ladder while the toys desperately attempt to run away, and, with Woody's and Buzz's help, manages to reach it. However, rather than pushing the button to turn off the belt, Lotso betrays them and leaves the toys to die in the incinerator. The remaining toys fall into a large chamber where the shredded garbage is falling in an enormous bowl toward the flames. With their attempts at escape futile and having no other options left, the toys seem resigned to their fate, and join hands as they accept their inevitable death. Just then, however, the aliens use the giant claw to pull them to safety. Lotso, in the meantime, wanders around while looking for a way out of the dump until he eventually finds himself strapped to the front of a garbage truck by a garbage man, who claims to his co-worker that he once had a Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear toy when he was a kid, with three other toys that are collected before him. As for the toys, who finally decide that the attic isn't such a bad place to be sent, they all manage to return to Andy's room undetected by riding Sid's garbage truck, where they pack themselves into a box labeled "Attic" and say goodbye to Woody wishing him a good time at college with Andy. However, Woody has a better idea, so he writes Andy a note, suggesting that he gives the toys to Bonnie, who he knows will play with and take good care of them. Andy discovers the box, and finds the note Woody left on the top. He drives the toys to Bonnie's house where he pulls them from the box and passes them on to her one by one, explaining their names, personalities, and other traits. Finally, Bonnie looks into the bottom of the box and sees Woody, who had jumped into the box after leaving the note and leaving Andy confused about how he'd gotten himself in the box. Andy picks Woody up before Bonnie can, but then sees the surprised look on her face, as well as all of his other old toys, lined up together with her. In one last symbolic gesture, he gives Woody to Bonnie, telling her that they've been through a lot together, and he means a lot to him, so she's got to take good care of him. Bonnie gladly accepts, and Andy joins her in playing with what are now her toys one more time. Soon, it's time for Andy to leave, and as he sits in his car and prepares to pull away, he looks back to see Bonnie waving Woody's hand at him. He smiles, thanking his toys for a great life together. When Bonnie goes inside with her mother for lunch, the toys, sitting on the front porch of the house, watch Andy drive away as they all wish him a final goodbye before Woody starts introducing his friends to the rest of Bonnie's toys. The end credits show that life at Sunnyside is back to being cool and groovy under the supervision of Ken and Barbie. A Zurg figure and a few other toys have been donated to Sunnyside, and they all receive a warm welcome from the residents like they did to Andy's toys before Ken and Barbie became the daycare's new leaders. All of the toys now rotate their time between the Caterpillar and Butterfly Room equally, and no toy is left in the Caterpillar Room too long. Eventually, the army men land in the playground where they are welcomed to Sunnyside by Ken and Barbie. Ken and Barbie also keep in touch with the toys living at Bonnie's house through letters hidden in her bag, as it is shown that Woody and the others have fully settled in their new life together and with Bonnie's other toys. Two years after Andy donated his toys to Bonnie, Woody and the other toys are content in their new life. Worried that Bonnie will feel overwhelmed at her kindergarten orientation, Woody – who Bonnie has been neglecting – sneaks into her backpack, and his fears come to light. But after a male classmate bullies Bonnie, Woody covertly places a spork and other items from a trash can on Bonnie's table during arts and crafts, and she turns them into a handmade toy spork that she names "Forky". After Bonnie places Forky in her backpack, he comes to life, which scares Woody. Woody introduces him to the rest of Bonnie's toys, Forky experiences an existential crisis, believing that he was made to be trash and not a toy, and the other toys prevent him from throwing himself away. On a road trip with Bonnie's family and her toys, Forky – still believing himself to be trash – jumps out of the window, prompting Woody to go after him. Woody convinces Forky of the joys of being a toy, and they journey to the RV park in a nearby town where Bonnie and her parents will be staying. Reaching the town, Woody spots Bo's lamp at an antique store. Searching for Bo inside, he and Forky encounter a doll named Gabby Gabby and her sycophant ventriloquist puppets, the Bensons. Gabby Gabby offers to take them to Bo, but she soon reveals her true colors and plan: To obtain Woody's voice box, since her own is broken and no child will purchase her. Woody and Forky try to escape, but Forky is captured by the Bensons. By the time Woody escapes the shop, he realizes that he has left Forky behind. Woody reunites with Bo, who has become a nomad adventurer helping lost toys find owners. With Bo's companion, a diminutive toy cop named Giggle McDimples, they take a route through a nearby carnival to rescue Forky from the antique store. Meanwhile, Buzz searches for Woody on his own, seeking guidance in the button-induced phrases from his own voice box. Buzz finds himself as a prize in a carnival booth and escapes with plush two toys, Ducky and Bunny. Afterward, Buzz finds Woody and Bo, and they recruit Ducky and Bunny to help rescue Forky, promising they will become Bonnie's toys, along with Bo's old friend from the antique store, Duke Caboom, a Canadian stuntman toy. At the antique store, the toys' plan to rescue Forky fails. Woody, the only toy that was still determined to save Forky, has a falling out with the other toys and indirectly insults Bo. As Bo, Duke, Giggle, Ducky, and Bunny return to the carnival, Woody gives up his voice box to Gabby Gabby in exchange for Forky. Gabby Gabby is desperate to be adopted by Margaret's granddaughter, Harmony. Unfortunately, Harmony isn't interested in Gabby Gabby and rejects her, leaving her disappointed, and offers Woody his voice box back, but Woody insists she keeps it. Buzz returns to Bonnie's RV and cries out to retrieve Bonnie's backpack, which she left at the antique store. Woody comforts Gabby Gabby and Bo, and her gang return after a change of heart. After Bonnie returns for her backpack, the toys follow her and her parents. Buzz and Forky make it back to Bonnie through Duke's motorcycle skills, who is delighted to have Forky back. Taking Woody's advice, Gabby Gabby sees a lost little girl crying, giving her comfort, and is finally found by her parents. Ducky, Bunny, Giggle, and Duke say goodbye to Woody and leave. As Woody and Bo say goodbye, Woody becomes hesitant to return with Bonnie as he doesn't want to say goodbye to Bo again. Seeing the emotional bind that his friend is in, Buzz encourages Woody decides to stay with Bo by saying that Bonnie will be okay without him. Afterward, Buzz and the gang give Woody and Bo a goodbye hug, and the two groups go their separate ways. The RV's engine starts, and the toys head into Bonnie's RV, while her parents start the engine and head home. Rex asks if Woody is now a lost toy, and Buzz says that he's not lost anymore. Buzz and Woody share one last message to each other from afar, "To infinity...and beyond." Woody and Bo Peep spend their night living together by looking at the nice carnival view and the night sky.
