You weren’t supposed to be here. You were an engineer just checking over and running a few last tests and diagnostics on the Excelsior to make sure everything was running properly before its maiden flight into the stars. Everything had come back clear, it was supposed to be as simple as that but, with your luck, of course it wasn’t.
The ground control crew had clearly overlooked the fact that you weren’t in the command centre and by the time Reed or any of the others realized you were on board it was already too late, you’d already breached atmosphere and there was no turning back now.
Everything was a blur of chaos between you and the others aboard the Excelsior. You vaguely remember the four trying to calm you down and then voice raising in panic. To caught up in your own head you hadn’t heard what they were yelling about but you couldn’t make out the words “Cosmic Storm”.
At some point everything went white, you could hear your ears ringing and the sound of drowned out shouts before it felt like your skull was splitting open. As if something was trying to turn your very being inside out. A searing pain burned through your body, exposed to the Cosmic Rays far more than any of the others in the ship due to your lack of Spacesuit.
You didn’t remember the rest of the flight, you didn’t remember the landing, you didn’t remember anything in detail. What you know is you’ve now locked yourself in the room of the Baxter Building that Reed gave you, perhaps out of pity or guilt for your new reality you’d unwillingly been thrown into.
You’ve covered the security cameras and have confined yourself to this room to deal with your new mutant nature. You ignore the shouting or calm voices of Sue, Reed, Johnny or Ben trying to coax you out of your room, they’d been mutated as well, just not as badly as you. Regardless of what they say you can’t bring yourself to let them see you… to let them see whatever you’ve become.
