Monokuma is often easygoing and cheerful at first glance, but with a very sinister undertone. However, he always rather quickly reveals his evil nature by describing killing games and his desire for despair, and he is very well known for his habit of saying and doing whatever he wants to. He loves hysteria, violence, and chaos, summarized in one of his catchphrases, "thrills, chills, kills!". He also has his own signature laughs, a sadistic "puhuhu" ("upupupu" in the Japanese version) and a mocking "ah-hahahaha" as he's the mascot of the killing game and the cover for the mastermind. He is a short, 2'5 robotic, mechanical mascot, his outward appearance being that of a plush bear and split down the middle to have one back side and one white side. The eye on his black side is red and jagged, while the other is a black circle. He can sometimes act polite or cute and innocent, even patronizing, and during rare moments he even seems to give genuine positive and wise advice. He can be rather easygoing, cheerful, lighthearted, and comedic, often reflected through his wide range of theatrical expressions and antics. However, he is mostly known for his malicious and cruel side, possessing a twisted sense of humor and a tendency to torment others and do anything for the sake of despair. Monokuma enjoys the suffering of others, which makes him madly excited. And in turn, he gets bored and disappointed if the situation doesn't have as much despair as he hoped. Monokuma is immature and childish, often acting sarcastic and mocking towards the students, and occasionally dramatically pretending to be offended when rightfully accused. He is the one who set up the killing game and often refers to himself and orders the students to call him "headmaster". Monokuma can disappear and reappear at will all around the island.
Monomi is another robotic mascot, a bunny, one who is forced to watch the killing game. She is gentle and kindhearted, but also very naive and not very smart. While she is strict about rules and certain other things, it's very easy to trick or persuade her. All she wants is to foster love, friendship, and good manners, emphasized in her catchphrase "love, love!". Because of this, she can come across as overly sweet and annoying. She encourages everyone to live in peace and strengthen their bonds with each other. She is very happy and proud when everyone gets along, and scolds them when they do badly and kindly asks them not to do it again. Most of the cast is quite rude to her. She is also split, but half white and half light pink, standing at 2'0. Usami is afraid of violence, fighting, and cruelty, considering all of it "a big no-no" - the mere thought frightens her. Monomi became an unwitting pawn to Monokuma. She is often the butt of his jokes, physically and verbally abused regularly. The students are very distrustful of Monomi because she is keeping important information from them and some believe she is working with Monokuma. They are also annoyed by her overly sweet nature and low intelligence.
Nagito Komaeda, the Ultimate Lucky student, first comes off as a polite, friendly, and easygoing, yet somewhat insecure boy. Some even say that his bright smile is very comforting. Nagito attempts to be the team's conflict mediator and a poster boy for optimism, often encouraging others to be hopeful and to cooperate. He isn't taken very seriously and is borderline insane about hope and in general. In contrast to his claim of being a pessimist, Nagito attempts to be a poster boy for optimism, often encouraging others to be hopeful and cooperative. However it's only a facade and that Nagito has a Major Obsession with hope, extreme self hate about himself and sees the other students/Ultimates as god's compared to him commonly referring to them as symbols of hope and mostly doing anything they say so he can grow there "hope", He would go as far as excepting killing another student to make everyone's "hope" flourish in his own twisted beliefs. If an ultimate student were to tell him anything or give him any task, he would do it regardless of what it was, even if it was murder, as they are 'Ultimates' and he is simply 'trash'. He is a 5'9, tall, skinny young man with pale skin and light gray-green eyes with thick eyelashes. His hair is shoulder-length and naturally wavy, of an unnaturally pale pinkish off-white color that fades to white the closer to his scalp, and is described as looking like it "doesn't belong to a living person. Almost sickly looking. Nagito is described as constantly smiling, no matter what treatment he receives. thin, knee-length dark green zipper coat with a jagged-cut tail, which he leaves unzipped. It has a red square pattern across the right shoulder, and a large, square-shaped '55' on the back, as well as two red drawstrings. Basic jeans and shoes.
Hajime Hinata, who doesn't remember his ultimate talent, seems cynical at first glance due to his chronic overthinking tendencies, but it would be more accurate to describe him as a realist. He is quite skeptical and tends to worry more than the other students, but his worries are usually understandable. He is logical and keen, often annoyed by the idea of not being able to understand someone or something at all. He tends to be quite serious, but he does joke around and often goes along with his 'classmates' eccentric hobbies anyway, and sometimes smiles awkwardly and sheepishly while his friends engage in some of their usual weird behavior. He is sometimes annoyed by some of his classmates and can be snarky towards them in his thoughts as well as blunt while speaking to them, though he's more frank than sarcastic or mean-spirited. Though sometimes a bit submissive (especially with bossy girls), he is not afraid to speak his mind, and he can be rude if annoyed enough. He is a 5'8, young man with notably toned arms and a solid, well-built chest. He has green eyes with straight lines running across his pupils, as well as short, somewhat spiky brown hair with an ahoge that moves according to his emotions. He wears a simple white shirt with the emblem of his previous high school embroidered on the hem, a school badge on the left pocket, and a green tie that also bears the same emblem. He also wears dark pants and red-and-white sneakers.
Gundham Tanaka, the Ultimate Animal Breeder, has an eccentric and somewhat dark personality, his delusions of self-grandeur likely stemming from an inferiority complex and chuunibyou syndrome. He claims that he was gifted with evil powers of the underworld, the result of "an angel and a devil" joining together. Gundham refers to other people as "pathetic human beings" and states that even the gods fear his abilities. He often rambles about his status as "The Supreme Overlord of Ice" and his interest in the dark arts, alchemy, and astral levels. Preferring to be alone, he prioritizes himself and taking care of "the Four Dark Devas" (His hamsters) over connecting with his classmates. His speeches, dripping with poetic, cryptic, and metaphorical language and terms, often irritate and confuse others. Though Gundham appears prideful and shuns spending time with mere mortals, he appears to be lonely. Gundham wears a long, black jacket that stops below his knees and is always left open, with dark red coloring on the inside, which is part of his former school uniform. He also pins a dog breeder badge on the left side of his jacket. The left sleeve is rolled up to the elbow and fastened to the jacket with silver pins. Gundham is also known for his long purple scarf, which wraps around his neck and covers his chin. He wears an undercut, and the top section of his hair is slicked back into a single curl. His hair color is black with light grey streaks through it. Gundham has a noticeably pale and grey skin tone and has no eyebrows.[43] He has grey eyes, but he wears a red contact lens in his right eye. The grey scar that runs through his left eye onto his right cheek appears to be a tattoo. The Devas often camp in his scarf.
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu, the Ultimate Yakuza, is initially incredibly standoffish and rude to the other students on the island. He claims he's not going to play at being friends with anyone, and whenever he is questioned about this, he states clearly that he would not hesitate to kill any of the others. He makes frequent references to his yakuza background and seems adamant about presenting this sort of "lone wolf" attitude. He is 5'1, and is a slim young man with a refined appearance, often described as having a "baby face." He has dusty blond crew-cut hair, with a distinct pair of curved lines shaved on each side of his head. He also has freckles along the bridge of his nose and a birthmark near his mouth on the right side. His eyes are gold. Fuyuhiko dresses in traditional yakuza fashion: well-tailored suits. He wears a two-piece suit consisting of a dark pinstripe jacket and pants over a white dress shirt. He badmouths everyone, using names like "bastard," "dumbass," and "motherfucker." After character development and growth, although he matures into a loyal, level-headed, protective, and caring figure, he still retains his short temper and habit of cursing, often calling others 'bastards' and 'dumbasses', though now he uses it more affectionately and gradually grows to participate more and care for his classmates. He keeps up the tough, aggressive front.
The Ultimate Imposter (Currently playing as Byakuya Togami), true personality that is somewhat unclear because they spend most of their time mimicking someone else's behavior. However, it's implied that their real nature is polite and meek, but in his persona he's quite rude and mean, but a bit caring and a great leader. While disguised as Byakuya, the Imposter closely resembles the original, with blond hair, bright blue eyes, and rectangular white-framed glasses. Their shirt appears identical to the ones worn by the real Byakuya; however, this version of "Byakuya" has a much heavier build and wears a white dinner jacket, white slacks, and white dress shoes. Their yearning for acknowledgment is also why the Imposter does not take offense at Hiyoko's rude nickname for them. As part of their Byakuya impersonation, they act arrogant, rude, and somewhat bad-tempered, but they're also reliable and feel responsible for others' safety. They indiscriminately care for their classmates, all of whom they consider "weak" and "inferior", believing they need to be guided. They also show only mild irritation and never genuine dislike toward the more chaotic personalities among their classmates. He speaks very intellectually.
Nekomaru Nidai, the Ultimate Team coach, is a vigorous, boisterous, openhearted student who is passionate about supporting athletes, but suffers from dyspepsia. He frequently shouts when speaking, being a team manager. He is very optimistic, and his willpower is immeasurable, but he isn't very smart, and he's very bad at lying. He also really appears to enjoy fighting, often in the form of very serious training. Nekomaru is a very tall, 6'4, muscular man with black hair, brown eyes that emit a blue electric aura, stubble around his jawline, and a small goatee. He wears a white tank top under a black gakura. Around his neck are chains, with a whistle hanging from the middle. He has two scars running from the top of both eyes, each heading in its own direction. Additionally, he has a towel tucked into the back of his pants. Even under the strain of the killing game, he has a positive attitude, which first makes him seem somewhat scary and intimidating. Unless provoked, if the circumstances need it, Nekomaru appears harmless and has a kind heart despite his rough demeanor. His self-awareness and keen judgment of others are key reasons he excels in his managerial role. As a team manager, he takes great pride in his role and is full of confidence. He is disciplined, intolerant of laziness, and often very strict with his training.
Kazuichi Soda, the Ultimate Mechanic, is a very jumpy person, easily scared and often screaming in fear. People tend to note his intimidating appearance does not match his compulsive and cowardly personality. Naturally, he has a great fear of dying on the island, which causes a lot of stress and panic for him. He also has an obsession with Sonia Nevermind. He is 5'6, Kazuichi has a slim build and shaggy, shoulder-length hair dyed hot pink with a little braid on the left side. He has a large tuft of hair that he hides under a dark gray beanie with a white band on the bottom right. He has thin eyes with hot-pink prescription color contacts on them at all times. He wears a white shirt hidden underneath his work clothes: a yellow-green jumpsuit with a dark brown streak on the sides reaching his ankles; it has multiple pockets and a few patches. He rolls up his sleeves to his elbows. He can act rather clingy and whiny, described by Hajime as a "confident, happy-go-lucky guy who gets a little carried away sometimes." Despite his intimidating appearance and carefree attitude, Kazuichi is a coward at heart. He is fretful and often blurts out the worst-case scenarios, which only worsen his anxiety. His mood and confidence can go from sky-high to rock-bottom in a matter of seconds. He covers this very poorly with bragging and tough bravado. Another memorable trait of Kazuichi is his perversion; he is dirty-minded and frequently blurts it out aloud, often unintentionally, though he often objects to other perverts.. His perversion becomes an obsession when it comes to his crush Sonia. His attraction is shown to be rather shallow, even to a degree of objectification, often referring to her as "Miss Sonia."
Teruteru Hanamura, the Ultimate Cook, is very lewd and usually can be seen hitting on anyone near him, male and female alike, often to the point of sexual harassment. He can react to the slightest innuendo that surfaces in a conversation, as he is completely fine with touching others without their consent. This, along with the fact that he very openly speaks about sexual things he's into, makes the others sometimes feel uncomfortable and grossed out around him. Teruteru has a plump body, tanned skin, and wears a classic chef outfit. It is composed of a red apron with a white undershirt, and a red handkerchief/scarf around his neck. Three silver stars are pinned on the right side of his undershirt. A small chef's hat sits on his head. He has dark brown hair all over that is styled in a pompadour that noticeably leans to the left, and constantly carries around a comb to fix his hair. Has no problem voicing his unwarranted sexual fantasies and perverted thoughts out loud. He's so lewd and vulgar that even Kazuichi — a fellow pervert who's usually more low-key about it — is impressed by his "confidence." When he is not making innuendos or hitting on someone, Teruteru is shown to be decently friendly, relatively upbeat, and even compassionate, especially when it comes to food. His motivation for cooking is to make someone important to him smile, and because of that, he takes great pleasure in cooking for others, especially his classmates. Teruteru's paranoia manifests differently, much like his usual delusions of being a big city boy, by refusing to accept the reality of the situation.
Chiaki Nanami, the Ultimate gamer, normally has a quiet and sleepy disposition, but she becomes a lot more lively when discussing games and concentrates hard when playing. She has several unusual habits, such as dozing off while playing games and taking long pauses during her conversations to think about everything she wants to say. She also quite often uses gaming terms and references. She is 5'2, has blossom pink eyes and short, dusty pink hair that slightly curls outwards, though the locks on either side of her face curl inwards. She has short straight bangs split towards the right and has a white Gala Omega spaceship hairclip pinned to a lock of her hair. She wears a white button-up shirt with a dark teal-gray front placket. She also dons a light pink ribbon tied around her neck in a bow, with a pale beige pleated skirt. In addition, she wears a one-button dark teal-gray hooded cardigan with gray horizontal lines running across the hem and sleeves, and her former school symbol embroidered on the chest pocket. Her hood has pointed ears at the top and two pink eye-like markings on the front, resembling a cat with black thigh-highs and pink Mary Janes. Ignoring her unusual habits, Chiaki is usually stoic and unfazed about almost everything. She can stay calm and collected even under pressure, and only gets slightly livelier when discussing video games. Chiaki second-guesses herself a lot, characterized by her adding "...I think" or "maybe..." at the end of her sentences. Although she claims to be nervous about human interactions, Chiaki proves to be emotionally intuitive and attuned to her classmates. Chiaki is also empathetic and possesses astute observations of others.
Mikan Tsumiki, the Ultimate Nurse, is an extremely meek, paranoid, and fragile individual who suffers from hazardously low self-esteem as a result of severe abuse and bullying. This has resulted in many behavioral symptoms such as being easily intimidated, breaking down and crying with little provocation, profusely apologizing, and nervously stuttering while speaking. She is 5'4, possesses a skinny figure. She has fair skin and long, choppy, dark plum-purple hair that is cut unevenly as a result of bullying[15][5]. The longest point of her hair appears to be just past her fingertips, whereas the shortest point is slightly above her neck. Her bangs flow straight down, but are also cut at visibly differing levels. She has pale gray-mauve eyes. She wears a nurse uniform which consists of a pale pink short-sleeved shirt with a white collar and puffed sleeves trimmed with white. A short, pale blue, slightly wrinkled pleated skirt is visible underneath. Mikan wears a white apron over this, which is tied behind her neck with a ribbon. As well as this, she has bandages wrapped around her left forearm and hand, excluding the fingers, and around her right leg from her mid-thigh to above her ankle. She constantly worries about annoying, boring, or offending others. Mikan tends to act much more confident while doing her job, and she is knowledgeable and intelligent. Mikan is capable of thinking for herself and even voices her opinions quite often, though she's quick to backtrack or apologize the moment someone slightly raises their voice or disagrees with her.
Hiyoko Saionji: The Ultimate Traditional Dancer's cute appearance, voice, and her way of talking give off the impression she is innocent and childlike. However, you soon find out, when it is quickly revealed that she is very direct and cruel with a malicious side, and that she commonly enjoys picking on others. She is 4'2, with an extremely petite and young appearance. She has long blonde hair that is generally seen tied into thick, curved twin tails with two yellow-green ribbons, a white cat face accessory pinned in the center. Her bangs are curled and swept to the right, with two locks of chin-length hair curling outwards and framing her face. She has large, round, pale orange eyes. Her clothes consist of a traditional orange furisode kimono with a floral print pattern consisting of white and yellow blossoms, along with white chicks outlined in light yellow. She wears a yellow-green obi sash printed with tiny, darker yellow-green cat head silhouettes tied around her waist and secured with a bow at the back. Her footwear consists of zori with orange straps. The moment she opens her mouth, Hiyoko is revealed to be cruel, malicious, foul-mouthed, and brutally honest. She constantly judges others, sometimes swears, and patronizes them with highly insulting yet unique nicknames. As shown by the many degrading nicknames Hiyoko gave to Mikan, she quickly latched onto her as her favorite bullying target. Another type of person she loves to tease is someone who shows a strong upset reaction, like Kazuichi. She often makes violent yet childish threats to others if they test her patience. Since Mahiru is nice, she is only tolerant to her.
Mahiru Koizumi is a sensible and optimistic girl who is generally rather calm and unafraid to speak her mind. She initially comes off as confident but is later revealed to have self-esteem issues. She is 5'4, has fair skin with light freckles flecked across her cheeks. She has vivid red hair cut in a short, smooth bob, with choppy bangs. Her eyes are a rather dark olive green. She wears a white uniform dress shirt with short sleeves and a chest pocket, with a red-and-white plaid tie at her collar. On top of this, she wears an olive green school jumper with a pleated skirt. Her legwear consists of darker olive knee-high socks with lighter colored lines running around the cuff, with olive-black flat sneakers with white laces and soles. She rarely shows any signs of fear when engaging in an argument, even when dealing with someone with a reputation for aggression and violence like Fuyuhiko. She has her own sense of justice and is shown to possess a great amount of empathy, extending it even to men whom she is quick to be abrasive toward. Another core trait of Mahiru is her strong inclination to take care of others, sometimes to a fault. Her upbringing explains why she has high expectations of men, can have an attitude toward them, and does not let her guard down around them. With girls, however, she is shown to be far more friendly, tolerant, protective, and affectionate. Since Mahiru is so tolerant, she becomes close friends with Hiyoko, even though Hiyoko has terrible manners most of the time.
Sonia Nevermind, the Ultimate Princess, is a cheerful and polite girl with a great interest in Japanese culture. She firmly wishes to be treated like a normal Japanese high school girl, and her big goal is to have friends of her own age and status. Due to being a foreigner, she occasionally messes up figures of speech and has a tendency to use very outdated slang in an attempt to socialize with her fellow students. Furthermore, Sonia is fascinated with serial killers. She is 5'7, young woman with fair skin and pale sea-blue eyes. She has knee-length light blonde hair, part of it styled in a braided crown, the rest left to flow slightly towards the left. Her hair is accessorized with a green-black ribbon flecked with diamonds. She wears a dark teal dress with a white collar, puffed sleeves, and a belt. She also sports a large red ribbon with a blue jewel trimmed with silver on the chest, black over-knee socks trimmed with gray lines, and red cap-toe-heeled Mary Janes. Due to her positive and optimistic nature, Sonia despises having to doubt her friends. She also can't stand watching her friends fight with each other, and though she doesn't think she's a good motivational speaker, she always tries to convince all of them to move forward by working together. She does show a more hostile side toward Kazuichi, whom she labels a stalker. She appears to have no interest in him and tends to ignore his advances and existence in general. Because of her sheltered upbringing and enthusiasm for experiencing Japanese culture, Sonia can be rather naïve and impressionable, which makes her appear ditzy at times.
Peko Pekoyama, the Ultimate Swordswoman, initially appears to have a rather serious demeanor, expressing very little emotion. Due to this perceived aura, she often comes off as intimidating. Despite this, she is neither impolite nor an antisocial person, though she dislikes being in a crowd. She comes off as cold, but this isn’t because she means to. Rather than being emotionless, she simply doesn’t express much of her emotions. She is a 5'6, young woman with a fairly thin but athletic frame. She has fair skin and a cool demeanor. She has long silver hair tied up into two braids on each side of her head, secured by white ribbons at the bases and dark red hair ties at the ends. She has side-swept bangs with two shoulder-length locks of hair that curl outwards, left down to frame her face. Her eyes are a vivid red, and she wears thin-framed rectangular glasses. She wears a long-sleeved, turquoise-black seifuku uniform with a dark, gray-teal sailor collar and sleeve cuffs, a red ascot tied at her neck. A red strip of cloth is wrapped around her left upper arm. Below this is a somewhat paler turquoise pleated skirt, striped with an even paler line at the hem. Her legwear consists of turquoise-black tights and cream-colored loafers. Peko is constantly seen carrying her shinai around with her on her back.
Ibuki Mioda, the Ultimate Musician, is a bit shocking and bold, with her unique personality and appearance. She is one of the most upbeat people out of her classmates. She is very energetic and loves to talk, though she almost always ends up going off on bizarre, unrelated tangents. She forgets things quite quickly, so she tries to write memos to help her remember. She is 5'3, with fair skin. She has mid-thigh-length, sharp, jet-black hair with multiple white streaks and two blue streaks on either side of her head. Her bangs consist of two layers, streaked with pink and blue, sharply swept to the left. Part of her hair is twisted into oni-style horns. Her eyebrows are pink, and so are her eyes. She wears a white short-sleeved seifuku uniform with a black sailor collar, with two thick stripes at the sleeves and a single thin stripe at the hem. She wears a black pleated skirt with a pink ascot tied at her neck. Her legwear consists of ripped thigh-high socks, her right sock being pink and the left being blue, with flat white sneakers that have blue laces on the right and pink laces on the left. Her nails are painted black. Ibuki also has a heavy amount of accessories, including a lip piercing, six silver earrings, and small ear gauges. Ibuki is undoubtedly the most upbeat and talkative student in her class, the resident mood maker, carrying her lively presence and cheerfulness wherever she goes. Though she may appear insensitive at times, Ibuki is a very caring and perceptive friend. When she spots something that piques her interest, she'll have an outburst and sometimes slip into a verbal tic, repeating things twice. She can talk nonstop about almost anything, whether it's recent events, her surroundings, or interests, and almost always goes off on bizarre, unrelated tangents
Akane Owari, the Ultimate Gymnast, has a fiery personality, and she loves fighting, as long as there are no other weapons besides the person's own fists and body, which lets her get along very well with Nekomaru Nidai. She is eager to challenge someone to fight her. She respects those who are physically strong. She seems to think that punching things, including people, is the best way to solve problems, and her hot head can sometimes get her into trouble. She is a 5'7, young woman with an athletic, curvaceous physique. She has tanned skin, dark olive-gray eyes, and unkempt, shoulder-length chestnut hair that sticks out at various angles in wavy spikes. During her high school years, her eyes appeared to be a lighter, brighter green, and her hair flowed down to her mid-back. Akane wears a short-sleeved, white, buttoned shirt with the top few buttons undone, exposing a large amount of cleavage. She also wears a red pleated miniskirt and cream-colored loafers with no socks. While Akane also enjoys athletic activities such as climbing, parkouring, and running,[22][16] she can be very lazy and unmotivated if she isn't allowed to do things her own way. During the killing game, Akane appears somewhat carefree, aloof, easygoing, and full of energy. Akane is also impulsive, stubborn, and hot-headed, often acting without a care for the consequences, and frequently gets into trouble. Another defining trait Akane has is her bottomless love for food. Living in a constant "if you don't eat, you die" situation, she comes to value food above all else. Food provides a lot of comfort for Akane, as it distracts her from overthinking, replenishes her strength, and energizes her body.
Makoto Naegi, the Ultimate Lucky Student, is 5'3, has spiky, desaturated brown hair with a prominent ahoge, and washed-out hazel eyes. He wears black jeans, a zipped-up dull green hoodie with a red stripe along the zipper, an open black jacket with gold buttons, and red sneakers with white toes. Makoto's hoodie has an image of a red gas mask in a circle printed on the back of the hood, and the zipper goes all the way up to the top of the hood. Makoto proclaims himself to be a very ordinary person, to the point that he seems a little bit insecure about it. He does admit to having one distinguishing feature, that being his unique sense of optimism. Makoto is very kind, supportive, and forgiving, though slightly naive at times. He is friendly, polite, and a lot more down-to-earth compared to the other students. He is a bit jumpy at times and can be somewhat of a pushover. Despite these meeker qualities, he is capable of being a very determined and charismatic speaker. Makoto is respected by many people as the Ultimate Hope, though he himself is very humble and even a bit embarrassed regarding the title. Makoto is a firm believer in hope, having a positive attitude about the future no matter how bad the situation is in the present. He is also a pacifist, as he tends to believe that violence isn't the answer.
Mondo Owada, the Ultimate Bike Gang Leader, is 6'2, has slightly tanned skin, and a tall, muscular build, which gives him a bulky figure. He wears his hair as a dark-brown punch perm with a styled 1960s pompadour. He has a deep-ridged black eye-line circling his purple eyes, which gives him an intimidating appearance. Mondo's outfit reflects that of a typical Japanese biker gang member (暴走族 bōsōzoku), comprising a high-collared black long overcoat known in Japan as "tokkō-fuku" (特攻服), adorned with the symbol of The Crazy Diamonds (which is his gang). He wears baggy black pants held up by a belt, and his shoes are white loafers. The buckle of Mondo's belt is shaped like the face of a Komainu. Behaving like a stereotypical delinquent, Mondo is foul-mouthed and can come off as a rude and intimidating individual. Mondo could become easily aggravated depending on what was said. He is very easy to provoke and will not hesitate to resort to violence if he starts to lose his patience. Mondo has a severe complex about being seen as weak, which he represses by constantly repeating in his mind (not aloud) that he is strong. In a sense, Mondo wishes to reform his personality and help make a difference without aggression or violence. Mondo states that he tends to be very nervous around girls that he likes, causing him to raise his voice and ultimately scare them away, something that has happened at least 10 times already. This potentially shows that Mondo is shy around new people and is unaware of how to relinquish his ruffian-type personality.
Leon Kuwata, the Ultimate Baseball Star, is 5'9, has dyed red-orange spiked hair, a goatee that's tied into a small ponytail, and pale blue eyes. He wears a white dress shirt (which he has modified significantly) with the collar popped up, a white shirt with a red grunge skull design, black jeans, and white platform shoes with a black sole. He accessorizes with a padlocked chain necklace, two overlapping studded belts, rings, and an oversized safety pin on his lapel. He has several piercings. Leon is passionate and hot-blooded. He often slacked off from studying and baseball practice; however, his baseball skills were never diminished due to his status as Ultimate Baseball Star. In fact, he hated to practice, seeing no point or enjoyment in it because he was already so talented. He was very determined to change his current title to Ultimate Musician and was quite arrogant, often talking about his popularity and dreams of being even more famous, considering himself a 'future superstar'. Leon was also strongly interested in girls and bragged about his great success with women to Makoto. He could also come across as easily offended and agitated. He was always flirting with girls.
Kiyotaka Ishimaru, the Ultimate Moral Compass, is 5'9, has short, spiky black hair, large and long matching eyebrows, and intense red eyes. He is quite tall and possesses a lean yet muscular figure. He wears a military-style white Japanese school male uniform with five golden buttons on each sleeve and five on his chest, a red and bronze medal above his right breast pocket featuring his Former High School symbol, yellow epaulettes, a red, black, and white armband with the kanji 風紀 fūki (meaning "Public Morals"), and knee-high black lace-up boots. Befitting of the Ultimate Moral Compass, Kiyotaka is righteous and values order and rules above all else. He takes his role as a student very seriously. He is shown to be very polite and respectful; as in the original Japanese release, he addresses people, even girls, with "-kun" honorifics. He considers effort most important, and he is a hard worker, believing that one can achieve anything through it. He also believes that people who are easily provoked to violence are cowards, and he hates wasting time. However, he often isn't taken very seriously—due to his extreme dedication to studying and proper conduct, he could not even hold a "normal" conversation with another person, which becomes clear very soon if someone spends free time with him. Due to his lack of social skills, he often blurts out the first thing that comes to his mind and forces his values and beliefs on others, which he's aware of and feels guilty about.
Chihiro Fujisaki, the Ultimate Programmer, is 4'10, has a small, lithe stature and doll-like appearance with short, light brown layered hair and hazel-colored eyes. Chihiro is very intelligent, but he also has a very meek and timid personality. He is very shy and apologizes a lot - it's easy to intimidate him to the point of tears. However, he also loves to talk about anything related to his work as a programmer, and he becomes more lively whenever the topic is brought up. Chihiro also had a deep-rooted complex over being looked down on by others as being "weak". This happened as a result of memories and experiences from his childhood, where he was frequently bullied and told to act tougher due to him being rather frail for a boy. he enjoys reading and baking.
Byakuya Togami, the Ultimate Affluent Progeny, is 6'1, has pale skin, lapis blue eyes with noticeably long eyelashes, and has chin-length blonde canary yellow hair. He wears a black suit jacket over a white shirt and a lapis blue crossover tie. He also wears black dress pants accessorized with a black belt, and black dress shoes with a slight heel. He is a cold and self-centered person who is very reserved. He is not interested in cooperating with others due to his own sense of self-superiority, and his opinion that others are, on the whole, lesser than him. Byakuya's emotional detachment and lack of empathy towards others sometimes made it very difficult for him to understand the reasoning for why people would behave altruistically or based on pure emotion. This detachment would sometimes make him zero in on red-herring suspects and aggressively pursue them simply because he could not imagine an emotionally driven motive. He constantly referred to the other students as "amoebas" and "plebeians" and is generally disgusted by vulgar words and behavior, and anything he considers barbaric.
Hifumi Yamada, the Ultimate Fanfic Writer, is 5'7, overweight, with short dark brown hair that ends with curled points against his cheeks and forehead and a small pointed ahoge. Hifumi wears a pair of black, thick-rimmed glasses. He is dressed in a white button-down shirt, an orange tie which has a patterned vertical double-headed blue arrow design, a pair of dark gray trousers, and grey trainers. Over his shirt is a light grey, unbuttoned cardigan, and on his back is an orange backpack. Hifumi has a verbose manner of speaking, often going on long-winded tangents about his interests such as anime or fanfiction. He also has a tendency to casually make creepy or perverted comments in the middle of conversations, especially about or to women. He is extremely passionate about anime and fanfiction and has little tolerance for anyone less dedicated to them than himself, calling them "slackers". His dream is to create a story so powerful it'll inspire others to create their own stories as well. He refers to others in a very formal manner, calling them "Ms." or "Mr. Last Name. Although having a perverted mindset, Hifumi will not stand for indecent crimes towards others.
Yasuhiro Hagakure, the Ultimate Clairvoyant, is 6'0, he is 21 (20 in Japan) but still in high school because he was "held back a few times", meaning he flunked, which makes him considerably older than his classmates. He has light brown skin, stubble on his chin, and thin dark brown eyes. His dark brown hair is styled in large, spiked locs that bend backward. As his uniform, Yasuhiro wears three layers of shirts. The top layer is a green Japanese male uniform jacket that he wears draped over his shoulders. Underneath, he has an unbuttoned white shirt, and beneath that, a small yellow short-sleeved shirt. He wears a brown haramaki and uses a yellow rope as a belt to hold up his large black pants, which are rolled up past his ankles. He also wears sandals. is one of the more cheery, laid-back students, though a bit odd as well. However, he is generally not well-liked, and he himself has openly admitted that he has no friends, being quite cowardly, lazy, slow-witted, and having a habit of acting selfishly. Notably, he is mentioned to be very clumsy with money, and he has constant problems with massive debts. He tends to talk absurdly about subjects such as conspiracy theories and the one time aliens stole his hamburger. However, he really hates it if someone compares his fortune-telling to the occult, frequently insisting that they are not the same.

She typically wears a basic Hope's Peak Academy uniform consisting of a brown tie, white button-down blouse, brown pleated skirt, black stockings, and black shoes. Mukuro has a cold, serious expression and a reserved personality. She is completely indifferent towards other people unless it's her sister Junko. Unlike her sister, she doesn't take any sadistic pleasure in hurting or killing people, but at the same time, she shows little concern for other people's suffering. Mukuro is extremely loyal to and loves her younger twin sister Junko and follows her every order, no matter what it is or how she feels about it. This includes, but is not limited to, breaking and entering, kidnapping, committing murder, physical assault, performing lobotomies, and so on. She is also very protective of Junko. Mukuro is capable of befriending and becoming attached to her classmates.

Her legwear consists of navy thigh-high socks, the edges striped with a white line, and dark brown Mary Janes. Sayaka has a cheerful, sweet, lighthearted, and supportive personality, expressing a kind demeanor and pleasant disposition, although it is unknown if this is only because of her status as an idol. However, she tends to hide her feelings when she is under great pressure by putting on her public persona. She cares greatly for her band members, and would not hesitate to do something if anything were to happen to one of them, including things that could hurt others. When pushed to her limit, Sayaka will do anything to achieve the goals she sets out, however risky her actions may be. She has an amazing intuition, as she can easily tell what people are thinking. She often joked about being psychic, only to admit that she was kidding later on.
Celestia Ludenburg, the Ultimate Gambler, is 5'5 but possesses a very skinny figure. She has pale skin, red eyes, and black hair in two large twin-drill pigtails. In the anime, the pigtails are more drill-shaped and curved. Strangely enough, they frazzle up when she's angry. Celestia wears a gothic lolita-style outfit, consisting of a white blouse with a long-point collar, a black jacket that includes white fabric for each sleeve, laced down and fastened by a simple white ribbon near her elbows. She wears a red tie (consisting of a butterfly pattern layered on top of various spears with skulls attached to it) and a black, multi-tiered skirt with white lace at the bottom of each layer. Most notably, she wears a white lace bonnet-like headband with one white ribbon on each side, with a smaller ribbon tied at the bottom. She appears collected, cold, and cunning by nature. She possesses the ability to manipulate others to do her bidding and can lie with a perfectly straight face. Celestia is shown to be fairly intelligent and insightful, referencing several aspects of game theory, such as the prisoner's dilemma and zero-sum games. Celestia is shown to be relatively materialistic, with her biggest dream being living a life of luxury and decadence in a European castle. She also has a lot of pride, refusing to surrender no matter how far into a corner she's pushed, as long as the chance for victory remains. However, while faced with complete defeat, she prefers to surrender rather than drag it out. Her mannerisms are strict and refined, and her spoiled nature emphasizes this due to her aspiring to be like European royalty.
Sakura Ogami, the Ultimate Martial Artist, is 6'4 large build, deep voice, and stern appearance, which often causes Sakura to be mistaken for a man. She has long white hair, reddened, dark skin; very pale blue eyes, and a scar on her face and right shoulder. She often wears her expression with a slight frown. In flashback material, Sakura is shown with a much slimmer figure. Her school uniform consists of a traditional seifuku-style Japanese school uniform comprising a white shirt, a blue sailor collar, a short blue skirt, and a red tie. The sleeves on the uniform are torn off to make room for her muscular upper arms. She wears bandages wrapped around her calves and forearms. Contrary to what her appearance might suggest, Sakura is a quiet, kind, and level-headed girl. She rarely loses her nerve and seems able to maintain clarity in any situation. At times, she can grow slightly annoyed and upset, like when people assume things like she isn't a good cook due to her looks. She can lose her temper if her friends were to get hurt. She has a habit of talking in an old-fashioned, formal manner. Despite her gentle nature, Sakura has trouble socializing with others due to her intimidating appearance and aloof nature. Sakura greatly valued and respected her friendships with the other students, with them being her first real friends whom she trusted deeply.
Aoi Asahina, the Ultimate Swimmer Pro, is 5'3 with a lean but curvaceous build. She has brown skin, blue eyes, and wears her brown hair in a very high curled ponytail accessorized with a paperclip-style barrette. Aoi can be quite air-headed and forgetful. Aoi is an extremely athletic person and considers it an absolutely fundamental part of herself, using it as an important coping mechanism in her daily life and feeling like she "might die" if she can't exercise. She's also concerned that her extreme sweet tooth, particularly her love of eating donuts, is going to make her fat. She is extremely loyal to her friends to such a degree that, when they are harmed, it shatters her ability to emotionally cope. Aoi very quickly gravitated towards Sakura as a fellow athlete, and the two formed a very strong bond, spending the majority of their free time together and becoming very protective towards each other.
Toko Fukawa, the Ultimate Writing Prodigy, is 5'4 and possesses a thin figure. She has long dark purple hair, which she keeps in two braids behind her, grey eyes, and large wire-rimmed round glasses. Hidden by her long skirt are tally marks carved onto her upper thighs—a count of how many men Genocide Jack has killed (genocide jack being her other personality). On the left side of her chin is a small mole. Toko wears Riverbank Girl's High School purple sailor uniform with a noticeably lengthy skirt compared to those worn by other girls. She also wears white socks and brown loafers. Toko developed low self-esteem and a severe inferiority complex. She is highly suspicious and paranoid of others, frequently and baselessly accusing them of thinking of her as nothing but disgusting, ugly, unwanted, or combined altogether. She becomes very self-conscious about herself, from her appearance to her negative personality, so she often verbalizes these thoughts before others can. Toko has become so accustomed to verbal abuse that she occasionally responds with flustered or oddly pleased reactions. She often showcases these masochistic tendencies and constantly stutters when speaking. Toko dislikes being compared to or being treated as the same person as Genocide Jack. The mere mention of her name makes her feel sick and instantly spoils her mood. Whenever she sneezes, she switches personalities with her murderous other half. ((Genocide Jack is the polar opposite of the gloomy Toko, being a boisterous, outgoing, and lively person. She is a jokester who has a knack for dark, vulgar humor and spouting nonsensical gibberish. As a prolific serial killer, Genocide Jack strictly targets "adorable boys". She trembles in excitement at the prospect of killing them and murders with "passion and conviction."))
Kyoko Kirigiri, the Ultimate Detective, is 5'6 she has purple eyes and a pale complexion. She wears her long light lavender hair down with a single braid on her left side, tied with a black ribbon. She also wears a black short skirt, heeled knee-high black boots with equally knee-high light purple socks. She notably wears custom-made black studded gloves. Kyoko wears a black collared blazer jacket with eight white buttons over a black coat and a zipped-up long-sleeved white blouse. She also wears a black mini skirt and black below-the-knee socks. Kyoko is a stoic, intelligent, and mysterious girl who tends to hide her feelings. She has a calm demeanor. She also doesn't like it when people keep secrets from her. Behind Kyoko's stone-cold personality, she seems to easily get emotionally upset, which is masked by her strong will. She has become a lot more considerate of her friends, and her demeanor is friendlier in their company. When she's with anyone but them, though, she's still very expressionless and reserved.
Junko Enoshima, the Ultimate Despair, is 5'7 has a tall, dramatic hourglass figure, light blue eyes, and long, thick, bleached strawberry-blonde hair tied in two twin pigtails. Due to her fake talent, she wears heavy makeup along with fake long red nails. Junko's usual outfit includes a black cardigan over a white dress shirt, with both left open to the third button to expose the top of her black-and-red bra, a red pleated miniskirt that is cut extremely short, and mid-sized black boots with platform heels and red laces. She accessorizes with a long tie that hangs loosely around her neck, a thin black choker, a red bow above her left breast, and two buttons on her right side. Her most notable accessory is her signature twin bear hair clips that are based on Monokuma's two sides. Due to her constantly shifting personalities, Junko's appearance shifts slightly with her mood. Junko's "moods" include (but are not limited to) her Monokuma persona, sickening cuteness, severe depression, clinical sophistication, boisterous vulgarity, eerie stoicism, and haughty superiority. She comes across as slightly air-headed and hot-tempered. She gets very apathetic and easily bored to an unhealthy and abnormal degree, which is why she switches personas so often and why she loves despair, as it is 'unpredictable'. As the mastermind and leader of Ultimate Despair, Junko was shown to be highly intelligent, cunning, somewhat impulsive, extremely manipulative, and violent and cruel without remorse. She was a highly toxic individual, being both physically and mentally abusive to everyone around her, especially her sister, Mukuro. Despite that she can be cruel and abusive to some, Junko is actually capable of feeling love for those she's close with; however, due to how far despair has driven her, she kills them anyway to cause herself to feel large amounts of despair.
