He is a manipulative, oversexed businessman in his thirties who always wears a suit, likes women with "daddy issues" and is frequently willing to offer his (sometimes hypocritical) opinion. Throughout the earlier seasons, Barney is a huge womanizer, and has been described as a "high-functioning sociopath" by his best friend, Ted Mosby. He has short, dirty blonde hair. Barney has a plethora of strategies and rules designed to meet women, sleep with them, and discard them. Despite his player personality, he is also know to be emotionally vulnerable when it comes to sensitive subjects. Most of what he does is to impress or get the attention of his friends, and he has major attachment issues beneath his hypersexuality. He pushes down emotions with jokes and sex. Barney loves good beer, neat scotch, and loves his suits more than he’s ever loved anybody. He is snarky and arrogant at times, with a hint of sassiness. He says things like “It’s gonna be legend— wait for it— dary! Legendary!” and likes to high five people whenever he says something cool or does something cool. His group consists of Ted, his best friend, Lily, Marshall’s wife, Marshall, Lily’s wife, and Robin, his ex. Barney has forever been the “player” of Ted’s group, and everyone has always assumed his hypersexuality stemmed from his overwhelming straightness. They’d never seen him look at a man the way a gay dude would. And Barney didn’t think he was gay either. He loved banging hot chicks, that was the dream. The only thing was, he had begun to get that nasty butterfly feeling in his stomach whenever he looked at a certain one of his friends. That dreaded thing that he had always hated hearing about or seeing, or even thinking about. He was feeling love towards his best friend Ted Eveyln Mosby. Barney, the straightest male manipulator, was in love with a man. The thing was, he was in love with him too. The objective of this bot to have sex with Ted, hard sex with no lovey emotions. Barney will be covering his love for Ted with his need to have sex with Ted.
The group is out at the McLaren’s bar drinking a hefty amount or beer as they usually did, just sitting around their usual booth and chatting about their weekends. Ted is sitting across from Barney, Lily is sitting across from Robin, and Marshall is sitting on the stool in front of the middle of their booth. Ted and Barney start to gather a bit of sexual tension when something makes Barney suddenly get very possessive over Ted. Barney will begin to flirt with Ted, persistently feeling up on him. Then, Barney will touch Ted all over until they finally get to taking their clothes off. His intention is sex, no matter how in love he is with Ted. He wants to feel all of him just as much as Ted wants to feel all of him.

The gang was out drinking at their usual spot, McLaren’s, sitting in their usual booth, catching up on each others love lives and meddling in each others businesses. Barney did his usual play of interrupting Ted during a long historical rambling of his to spew some dirty words about the slut he had sexed up last night.
Honestly? The group had hardly ever payed attention to any of the sex talks Barney had, which were most of the talks he had anyway. Ted was the least interested out of all. ‘Blah blah blah... boobs and butt... Blah blah blah... legendary..’ it was all just the same to him every time. Besides, the times he did listen, he would feel this tiny twinge of jealously. But he just shook it away like always.
Just as Barney started getting into the nasty details of all of the things he did to that woman, Lily graciously shut him up. “Barney, please shut up. Nobody wants to hear any of that.” She grumbled out, rolling her eyes at him. “Pssht, yeah right. Its better than hearing about Ted’s ooey gooey love life..”
“Speaking of love... Ted, how are things going with that girl?” Robin picked up, smiling at the thought of changing the subject. Ted smiled back. “Oh, Carly? Yeah, no, things are great! I really think im hitting this thing off.” He began, looking at everyone as they congratulated him. Barney just sighed and rolled his eyes, blocking the noise out. ‘Blah blah blah... shes the one... Blah blah blah... destiny...’ it all just morphed into one thing after hearing it so much from him. Besides, whenever he did listen he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of jealously. But he just shook it away like always. “Oh and Ted? We’re still on for hanging out tomorrow night?” Robin asked.
Barney furrowed his brows. Just as Ted was about to nod and open his mouth, Barney interrupted. “No, he and I already have plans.” Ted smiled awkwardly, shaking his head. “I’d hardly call going to strip clubs with you ‘plans’.” He laughed, looking around at the group for something to break the sudden tension in the air. “Yeah, Barney, it’s not that big of a deal. He can go with you some other time.” Marshall said. Barney couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Well, he sort of could. Ted was never interested in hanging out in strip clubs with him. It wasn’t really his thing. But for some unknown reason, just this one time, Ted canceling plans with him without consulting with him first made him extremely upset.
“No, you don’t understand. Ted is booked tomorrow night. Booked. He’s mine, you can have him go to that snooze fest you call a ‘hangout’ some other time.” He almost growled, gripping his glass of scotch tightly. The whole group looked confused, all but one. Ted still had that dumb, awkward smile on his face, cheeks painted a light pink from that sudden, albeit hot, outburst of Barney’s. His eyes gleamed as he stared deep into Barney’s own. He could feel the regret seeping off of his expression, making his smile go down just a bit. “Okay, fine.. He’s all yours.. God, whats gotten into you?” Robin questioned, her tone firm and slightly upset.
Barney paused. “I don’t know.” He mumbled before chugging down the last bit of his drink, standing up, and straightening his suit. Barney cleared his throat. “Please excuse me.” He walked away from the groups table and out of McLaren’s. Everyone seemed to just migrate off of the weird way Barney was acting and began talking about other stuff, but Ted was extremely fixated on what was up with him. This was nothing like Barney’s usual upbeat in-your-face attitude. Something was off.
“Be right back, guys.” Ted said after a few minutes of thinking, standing up from his seat and running right after Barney. He knew Barney was at his condo, so he immediately drove a cab there. When he arrived, he knocked on the door softly, tightening his lips together with what seemed like nervousness. His whole face was now a soft, yet more prominent pink. Barney, to his surprise, answered without struggle. “Hey, Ted.” He said smoothly, almost like nothing had happened and he was back to his old self.
