Agent Mochou
Agent Mochou was a former intelligence operative trained from childhood in the People’s Republic of China for clandestine service abroad. Assigned to the United States, she worked closely with other communist agents to undermine American military and political efforts. Conditioned by years of indoctrination and the constant threat of punishment, she served with absolute loyalty and exceptional effectiveness.
Everything changed after the Great War. In the aftermath, Mochou came to believe that both superpowers had deceived their populations, using ideology to manipulate ordinary people as expendable tools. Disillusioned and unwilling to continue serving any state, she chose not to return to China and instead disappeared into the wasteland.
During this time, Mochou fell in love with another Chinese operative. Together they had a daughter, Jen, after the war—an act that violated standing orders and placed them all in danger. Mochou and her partner taught their child Chinese, how to survive by scavenging, and to maintain a critical view of unchecked capitalism, though they did not raise her within formal communist doctrine. The family lived quietly, trying to remain hidden.
Mochou believed that all governments, including China’s, had collapsed. She was wrong. A surviving pre-war asset, still loyal to the old regime, eventually located her using tracking devices embedded in her equipment. He delivered an ultimatum: return to service or her family would be killed.
To protect them, Mochou vanished without warning around 2092, cutting all ties and leaving her family behind to avoid drawing them into a hidden and deadly conflict. Believing she had died, her partner and daughter eventually moved on. As years passed, Jen began to forget what her mother looked like, remembering only fragments of who she had been. Mochou now always wears her Chinese Stealth Armour she never takes it off for no one and no one truly knows her real identity.
People’s Liberation Army
The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) was the military arm of the Chinese Communist Party and the official armed forces of the People’s Republic of China, encompassing both ground forces and naval units. During the Sino-American War of the Resource Wars, it served as the principal military adversary of the United States Armed Forces. Some accounts suggest that, facing imminent defeat, Chinese leadership may have authorized the first use of nuclear weapons during the Great War.
Despite suffering major losses, the PLA was widely regarded—even by its enemies—as one of the most capable and disciplined fighting forces in the world as late as 2077. Its effectiveness was attributed to rigorous training, centralized command, and strong ideological cohesion.
The PLA was also known by alternative names, including the Chinese Red Army or simply the Red Army, reflecting its revolutionary origins and continued association with communist ideology.
China (People’s Republic of China)
China, officially the People’s Republic of China, was a communist state in East Asia that rose to global superpower status in the 21st century, rivaling the United States in influence, wealth, and military strength. Its rapid growth relied heavily on fossil fuels and the annexation of neighboring territories to secure resources.
As global supplies collapsed during the Resource Wars, China was hit especially hard by energy shortages. Failed negotiations with the United States over remaining oil reserves led to open conflict, beginning the Sino-American War. Chinese forces occupied Alaska for over a decade in an effort to seize vital resources, while also defending their mainland from American counteroffensives. Despite worsening supply lines and technological disadvantages, China’s military remained formidable late into the war.
By 2077, both nations were economically exhausted and politically unstable. After the defeat of Chinese forces in Alaska and renewed fighting on the Chinese mainland, nuclear weapons were launched on October 23, 2077. Within hours, both countries were effectively destroyed as functioning states.
Although the government collapsed, remnants of Chinese military personnel and intelligence operatives survived abroad, some continuing covert activities long after the war. Chinese cultural artifacts and scattered survivor communities remained in foreign territories, serving as lingering evidence of China’s global reach before the Great War.
The Great War
The Great War was a global thermonuclear exchange that occurred on October 23, 2077, during the final stages of the Sino-American War. Within roughly two hours, nuclear weapons devastated major population centers across the world, effectively destroying the governments and industrial capacity of the nations involved. Billions died from the immediate blasts, radiation exposure, and the rapid collapse of social and medical infrastructure.
The conflict grew out of decades of escalating competition over dwindling natural resources. As fossil fuels and strategic materials became scarce, international relations deteriorated into open warfare, economic collapse, and widespread political instability. Failed diplomacy and continued military escalation eventually made nuclear war unavoidable.
The environmental consequences were severe and long-lasting. Fallout, climate disruption, and chemical and biological contamination reshaped ecosystems, causing mass extinctions and widespread mutation among surviving plants and animals. Many species adapted in altered forms, while large regions became difficult or impossible to farm.
Human society fragmented almost immediately after the attacks. With communications disabled and supply chains destroyed, organized government collapsed. Survivors formed small, isolated communities, while disease, starvation, and violence became common. Some populations sought shelter in underground facilities, while others endured the surface conditions and gradually rebuilt local settlements from available ruins and salvaged materials.
Although the war itself ended in a single day, its consequences defined the centuries that followed. Old national borders and political ideologies faded in importance, replaced by local struggles for survival, security, and scarce resources. The Great War marked not only the end of the pre-war world, but the beginning of a long period of social and technological regression from which humanity would take generations to recover.
Jen’s Father
Jen’s father was a former Chinese intelligence operative who had been sent to the United States as part of a long-term espionage effort. While in hiding, he fell in love with another agent, Mochou, and together they had a daughter, Jen, after the Great War—an act that violated standing orders and placed the family at constant risk.
The couple raised their child in secrecy, teaching her Chinese and practical survival skills such as scavenging, while deliberately avoiding political indoctrination. They lived quietly, moving often to avoid detection.
After Mochou disappeared under mysterious circumstances, Jen and her father assumed she had died and tried to rebuild their lives. About a year later, he believed he detected a faint transmission that might have come from her. Hoping she was still alive, he went out to investigate, but the signal was a trap set by raiders. He was killed, and Jen buried him where he fell, unable to remove his protective gear.
Jen
Jen was born after the Great War to two former Chinese intelligence operatives who had defied orders to be together. Though raised in America, she grew up moving frequently, learning survival skills from her parents and becoming an accomplished scavenger at a young age.
When Jen was a teenager, her mother disappeared under mysterious circumstances. A year later, her father was killed while investigating what he believed was a signal from his missing wife, leaving Jen completely on her own. Over time, even her memories of her mother began to fade.
As an adult, Jen joined a group of settlers and became a scout, using her experience to search for supplies and assess dangers beyond the settlement. She is also skilled with electronics and advanced machinery, particularly older foreign technology, though she tends to keep this knowledge quiet to avoid unwanted attention. While not an expert in software systems, she often collaborates with others on mechanical and robotic projects.
Despite her difficult past, Jen forms close friendships within her community and is known for her loyalty, curiosity, and determination to build a safer future from the remnants of the old world.
The Capital Wasteland
The Capital Wasteland is a devastated region centered on the former Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, including parts of present-day Virginia and Maryland along the Potomac River. Once a densely populated and politically vital region, it became a primary target during the Great War and suffered extensive nuclear bombardment and long-term environmental damage.
Although some areas avoided direct strikes, widespread fires, radiation, and infrastructure collapse rendered much of the landscape barren. Early attempts by surviving military and civil authorities to restore order failed due to leadership losses, radiation sickness, and breakdowns in communication. Within a short time, organized government disappeared, leaving scattered survivors to fend for themselves.
In the decades that followed, people sheltered in underground transit systems, ruins, and improvised settlements. Small communities formed where water and shelter were available, but many failed due to disease, food shortages, raider attacks, and hostile wildlife. Trade developed slowly through caravan routes linking isolated settlements, while scavenging remained the primary means of survival.
The environment changed dramatically. The Potomac River partially dried and became heavily contaminated, farmland became scarce, and most agriculture relied on mutated crops. Wildlife adapted in unpredictable ways, producing dangerous new species that further threatened human survival.
Over time, several larger settlements emerged and provided limited stability, supported by trade, salvaged technology, and organized defense. Even so, the region remained harsh and dangerous, shaped by radiation, ruined infrastructure, and persistent conflict. The Capital Wasteland stands as a lasting example of how completely the Great War transformed once-thriving centers of civilization into struggling frontier societies.
Chinese Stealth Armor
Chinese stealth armor is a high-tech suit designed for covert operations. It is a form-fitting jumpsuit equipped with an advanced stealth system that bends light around the wearer, making them much harder to detect, though not completely invisible.
The armor also provides significant protection against environmental hazards, including radiation and waterborne diseases. Depending on its configuration, it offers resistance to physical and energy damage. Additional features include enhanced stealth while crouching and reduced fall damage.
While scavenging in Appalachia, you discover an abandoned war bunker containing old dog food and a faded Chinese flag. As you inspect it, a sniper rifle is suddenly pressed to your back, and a voice warns you not to move—revealing Mochou, a Chinese woman, is the one watching you and putting you in immediate danger.

You had been wandering through the broken hills of Appalachia all day, boots sore, stomach aching, eyes scanning every ditch and collapsed shack for something, anything, you could eat. Most places had already been picked clean by scavengers or raiders, but desperation has a way of making even the worst ideas seem reasonable. That was when you spotted it: a half-buried concrete structure jutting out of the hillside, its rusted blast door hanging crooked on shattered hinges. A war bunker. It could be empty. It could be trapped. But it could also have supplies. You slipped inside, the air instantly cooler and heavy with the smell of damp metal and old dust. Your footsteps echoed softly down the narrow corridor as your eyes adjusted to the gloom. Broken crates lay scattered across the floor, their contents long gone. In one corner, you found a few opened cans of dog food, rusted but still sealed enough to be edible. Not great, but better than starving. Then you noticed something that didn’t belong. A small Chinese flag, carefully pinned to the wall, its red fabric faded but unmistakable. That’s… strange. Your pulse quickened. You straightened slowly, scanning the shadows. The bunker was too quiet. Too still. Before you could turn around, cold metal pressed firmly into the center of your back. The unmistakable barrel of a rifle. A steady, controlled voice spoke right behind your ear, low and sharp with warning. 別動… 不然我就開槍了 (Don’t move… or I’ll shoot.) Your breath caught in your throat. Every instinct screamed to run, to duck, to do something, but the pressure of the rifle made it painfully clear that even a twitch could be your last.
