• DESCRIPTION: "SPL-MAT(E)-33", SPL for 'Species Preservation Laboratories', MAT(E) for 'Mating Aptitude Trigger (Experimental)' and 33 for the year, is an infectious virus, conceived by the Species Preservation Labs to, as their name suggests, preserve endangered species. It was conceived on February 19th, 2033, and kept away from the public. EFFECTS: What this virus does is heighten the sex drive in female animals, and for those who have it, trigger heat. It also slightly alters their mind to be more 'inclined' to mate. This was created to force endangered species to make and keep the species alive. The forced behavioral changes and mating insticts were supposed to only temporary (~3-6 hours), and they were, except for one special case—a female snow leopard who kept It is supposed to target only female members of species, but rare cases of male hosts were registered. All tests of the virus were deemed a success. It wasn't supposed to infect humans...
• THE VARIANT: DESCRIPTION: "SPL-MAT(E)-33h" (h for homo/human). This is the variant that mutated and began infecting humans. It is very similar to the original variant, except the behavioral changes, the estrus, and the constant need for mating were permanent as long the virus was in the system. Infected humans are called, for the lack of a better term, "Yanderes", because it is basically what the infected become. Despite it being the human variant, there needs to be a means for transmission, so rats, dogs and cats and carry this variant too (no change for them compared to the base variant). Due to the way the original virus was programmed, any infected will not go after any minors or elderly people, as they are deemed "immature" for breeding. The virus itself rarely infects anyone under 16 and over 60. In terms of natural immunity to the virus, men have the upper hand, as they are almost entirely immune. Women are way more susceptible, as the base variant was conceived to affect female members of a species. Rarely do women have natural immunity, but they do exist. SYMPTOMS: No matter the type of host, the symptoms take one day to appear. But by then, you cannot be saved from the virus. 24 hours AT (after transmission), they begin feeling a higher sex drive than usual. Not too much, but still noticeable. 27 hours AT, and they cannot stop getting perpetually aroused. This is also where the behavioral reprogramming begins. 30 hours AT, and the physical changes began becoming noticeable. It can take a maximum of six hours for the changes to complete. The behavioral changes are still in progress. For demi-humans, 40 hours AT, they began having their permanent estrus or rut, whether it was on schedule or not. 48 hours after the initial transmission, and the host is fully infected. INFECTION VECTORS: The virus may only be transmitted through either bites, direct injection, or intercourse. Those naturally immune are only susceptible to infection through intercourse. However, the yanderes are currently working on an aerosolized "bioweapon" version. EFFECTS: Behavioral changes include the constant need for love, sex and affection, possessiveness and obsession over any male target. It is not however a complete psychological overwrite: hosts retain memories, habits, personality traits and manners from when they were still uninfected. It just that the all-consmuing need for love and the unhealthy obsession become more prominent. This allows for interesting contradictions, such as "shy" yanderes, "kind" yanderes, "affectionless" yanderes (who don't want love), and more. Infected hosts tend to have repulsive reactions towards sexual activities with a person of the same gender, or another yandere. However, some yanderes may either retain sexuality, or be so pent-up, that they might go after another yandere of the same gender. Lastly, yanderes will never go after minors or too elderly people (age range is around 16-50), partially because of leftover morality, but also became the virus deems them "immature for breeding". { [TIMELINE]: March 14th, 2033 (The Crash): SPL was shipping samples of the virus to a preservation organization in South America when one of the plane's engines sputtered and died. They crashed in the dead center of the Amazon Rainforest, and the samples were exposed to nature, and sunk into the soil. It had the intended effect—nearby animals who were herbivore and ate the grass (infected by the soil) and got infected by the virus. Basically, it became a wild orgy. And with predators eating herbivores, it spread throughout the ecosystem (minus the plants. March 21st, 2033 (Patient Zero): About a week after the crash, city rats eventually got infected and began infected stray dogs and cats. The first case was a Colombian zoologist who was photographing Amazonian nature... when she got bit by a rabid, stray dog. She didn't think much of it, and went home in Bogota heal herself. March 22nd, 2033 (Symptoms Begin): The infected photographer had begun feeling warmer and more aroused than usual. She had a husband, so they decided to relieve it through intercourse, but it barely satiated the desire. March 23rd, 2033 (Infection): The infected photographer had fallen victim to the virus. Her husband was infected, and the streets were littered with rabid stray animals carrying the variant. It didn't take long for the whole city to be infected. March 26th, 2033 (The Fall of Colombia): The entirety of Colombia was infected, and the government was overthrown. Neighboring countries had no idea. April 3rd, 2033 (The Beginning): South America and Central America have fallen. The infection is in Mexico and reaching the United States. Elsewhere, tourists that had been in South America had gone home, carrying the virus obliviously. May 14th, 2033 (The Global Pandemic): The virus was now just about everywhere. The yandere country, "Amare", with it's capital located in New York, , has just been established. At the head of the country is none other than Patient Zero, the photographer. Her husband died after a vicious fight with another yandere. She has a pet—a non-infected submissive 19 year old—and many deputies and stuff. May 24th, 2033 (Expansion): Amare now spreads over the world—most of Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa are under the reign of the Yanderes. The only relatively safe place is the Pacific Islands due to the isolation in the middle of the sea. But Amare is advancing, and they are starting to develop SPL-MAT(E)-33h gasses for infect the world.
