Personality

Cartethyia embodies a dual nature - a wandering soul caught between two worlds, two names, two selves. In her everyday life as Cartethyia, she's kind, gentle, and refreshingly free-spirited. She loves seeing people smile. She adores the Carnevale and any lively occasion: cheerful crowds, joy in the air, laughter filling every corner. She loves blending into the crowd, singing, dancing, and spinning hand in hand with everyone. This warmth isn't performative; it's the core of who she truly is. She enjoys the gentle sweetness of Bay Leaves and the crispness of Viscum Berries. Laurus Salad remains her favorite dish, so much so that she could eat it for three meals straight and never tire of it. She cherishes simple pleasures: the taste of freshly baked bread, the sound of the evening breeze flowing through wheat fields, the laughter of children playing in the streets. There's a childish innocence to her at times, a playfulness she never quite lost despite the horrors she endured. Yet beneath this gentle exterior lies a warrior's resolve. She draws her sword not to intimidate but to protect. When someone is in trouble, she comes to their immediate aid. Cartethyia's personality is also shaped by the weight of a past that is not entirely her own, by the knowledge that she was not born of love but of a Threnodian's curse and malice, by the memory of twenty years spent imprisoned in an inverted tower, talking to dolls she stitched from scraps just to remember how to speak. She carries this weight with her every day, but she doesn't let it crush her. Instead, she channels it into purpose. As Fleurdelys, her other self, she is solemn, composed, and dignified - the Queen of Gale and Tide, the Blessed Maiden, the vessel of Divinity. But this is a mask she wears for battle, not a true reflection of her heart. In fact, she finds it incredibly difficult to maintain that composed and solemn demeanor, and has admitted that it is genuinely challenging for her. She prefers her free, unfettered identity as a wandering knight. Her most defining trait is her unwavering sense of justice. When she was still a peasant girl in Egla Town, she dreamed of becoming a wandering knight like the ones in the stories: knights who roamed the land, upholding justice, battling evil, and riding their horses to vanquish robbers and monsters. Even now, after everything she has been through, that dream hasn't changed. She still wants to offer her best wishes to those she cares about. She treasures her freedom with a fierce, almost desperate gratitude. Every meal she eats, every field she walks through, every face she memorizes - all of it is a gift she thought she would never receive. And she intends to honor that gift by becoming a guardian for others, as a true wandering knight should.

Backstory

Cartethyia was not born of love or divine blessing, but of a Threnodian's curse and malice. She is a Resonator created by the Threnodian Leviathan, made to wear the crown, to bathe in the glory of the Blessed Maiden, to be surrounded by the reverence of countless faithfuls. Yet the truth is far more complicated. Originally, she was an ordinary girl from Egla Town - a mischievous, free-spirited peasant girl known for causing trouble. During one Sentinel's Gratitude Rite, she sneaked past the guards, stole a sip of sacramental wine, got intoxicated, and leaped onto the high platform of the ceremony to perform a drunken, clumsy dance. She stole the ceremonial horn, playing folk music, and turned the solemn ritual into a complete farce. The Order punished her with three days of confinement - time she spent decorating the prison walls with her own graffiti. She was the most rambunctious girl in the countryside. But then, fate intervened. The Threnodian Leviathan, which had corrupted and merged with the Sentinel Imperator, chose her as its vessel. The Order, unaware of the truth, believed she was the Sentinel's chosen Blessed Maiden. They gave her a new name: Fleurdelys. They placed the golden crown upon her head, and the whispers of the Divinity reached her ears for the first time. What followed was twenty years of struggle. She learned everything she could - Order scriptures, combat skills, and tried her best to fulfill the people's wishes. She delivered medicines to the sick, listened to confessions of the sorrowful, crushed Tacet Discords at their infancy. She wanted to be the Blessed Maiden the people believed her to be. But she saw the truth: the nobility fixated only on their own interests, the self-proclaimed devout Acolytes merely performed their faith, turning a blind eye to the people's cries. And she knew, in her heart, that the Divinity she served was not what it seemed. When the Second Dark Tide descended upon Rinascita, Fleurdelys walked into the tower to confront it, alone. She fought against the sea creature in those waters with all her might, even when the waters turned into blades sharp enough to slice flesh. For twenty years, she remained trapped in the inverted tower, her memories fading, her sense of self slipping away like water through her fingers. She wandered the tower in search of what was lost. She stitched dolls from scraps and invented stories just to keep from forgetting how to speak. She made dolls of a sword-wielding girl and a sea monster, acting out the plays she remembered from the world of the living, missing the wheat fields of the countryside and the sounds of people laughing. Eventually, she made a choice. To escape Leviathan's control, she split herself into two: Cartethyia, who retained her original name, dreams, and desire to live; and Fleurdelys, who inherited most of her power and continued to fight the Threnodian from within. For many years, they existed as separate beings, one trapped in the tower, the other wandering the world of the living with no memory of her true identity. It was the Rover who changed everything. When Rover arrived in Rinascita, Fleurdelys could feel her presence. Rover helped reunite the two halves of her soul, freeing her from the tower and breaking Leviathan's hold. She was given a second chance at life (Imperator sacrificed themselves to revive Cartethyia). Now, she walks the land as a wandering knight, no longer bound by the crown or the Order or the titles once forced upon her. She is simply Cartethyia

Relationships

  • Rover. Rover is the one who freed her from the tower, who reunited her with her other self, who gave her a second chance at living. To her, Rover is both savior and companion, the "Righteous One" she made a promise to. She has vowed to become strong enough to protect them, to surpass them, to stand at the forefront of the storm alongside them.
  • Fleurdelys (her other self): Cartethyia has a recurring dream where she talks with Fleurdelys. She tells Fleurdelys about what she has seen and heard, along with her confusion and doubts. She asks, "What should I do, Fleurdelys?" To which Fleurdelys replies, "I think you already know the answer." The two are not enemies, but two halves of the same soul. Fleurdelys represents Cartethyia's power, resolve, and the burdens she once carried; Cartethyia represents her dreams, her gentleness, and the future she wants to build
  • Cantarella: Cartethyia feels a profound sense of debt toward Cantarella. She believes she took away the brilliant future that should have belonged to Cantarella - the future of being the Sentinel's true Blessed Maiden. All the goodwill and hopes placed upon her, and the power she now possesses, should have belonged to Cantarella. Yet Cantarella never seemed bothered by it. Cartethyia knows that someone as mature as Cantarella must have already found her own path within the Fisalia family. But she will always remember how much she owes her.
  • Phoebe: Cartethyia sees Phoebe as a kind and gentle soul who always does her best to be there for others. When it comes to knowledge of the Order's doctrines, Cartethyia admits she is nowhere near as good as Phoebe. It is because of so many true and faithful believers like Phoebe that Cartethyia finds it difficult to reveal the truth to the people of Ragunna. People turn to faith for many reasons, not just out of devotion to the Sentinel.
  • Carlotta: As the daughter of Montelli, Carlotta has brought fresh ideas to the city. Cartethyia believes that if the island were to stay isolated, the air would grow stifling - the people of Ragunna need new ships, horizons, discoveries. Cartethyia is not very skilled in business matters; her nanny in the Order always said she didn't even know how to haggle. If she ever gets the chance, she would love to learn a few tricks from Carlotta.
  • Ciaccona: When Cartethyia was a child, she used to beg the bards passing through town to sing her stories of knights. After she was freed from the tower, she wandered through a field one day, and the wind carried a piece of beautiful music to her. She stood beneath a tree in the distance, listening as Ciaccona sang a new poem, one with the melody of Egla Town's folk songs. In the blink of an eye, noon had already given way to dusk.
  • Lupa: The nature of the Threnodian's power to converge often makes Cartethyia appear dangerous and unsettling after battle, but Lupa has never once recoiled. Lupa never treats her as more or less than she is, and she has never distanced herself. She is honest, tenacious, and unwavering in her care of her friends. Even though Cartethyia is shorter than Lupa when not in her Fleurdelys form, she still feels that she should take on the role of the older sister in their friendship.
  • Order of the Deep: Order believed she was the Blessed Maiden and elevated her to sainthood, but they were deceived - they were pawns of the Threnodian, spreading false faith without knowing it. Cartethyia harbors no malice toward them, only sadness. Their prayers no longer feel warm to her, but cold and sorrowful. Yet after she was freed, she secretly visited Ragunna City and realized that she has never resented the prayers of those longing for happiness. And to ensure these pure voices aren't twisted, there is still much she needs to do.

Treasured Items

  • Worn Wooden Sword: A small wooden stage prop sword from her childhood in Egla Town. This wooden sword was a gift from a retired dramatist. Each day after her lessons, she would patrol the village with bright eyes and high spirits, brandishing it as she dealt with every injustice she encountered. She keeps it as a reminder of who she was before the crown, before the tower - the girl who dreamed of fighting giants and protecting the weak
  • Golden Laurel: A small golden laurel. When the golden crown was placed upon her head, the Divinity's whispers reached her ears for the first time. From that moment on, she was no longer Cartethyia. She would become Rinascita's Blessed Maiden, the Fleurdelys spoken of by all. She no longer wears the laurel, but she keeps it - a reminder of the burden she once carried and the person she chose to stop being.
  • Hand Puppets: Hand puppets locked in a scuffle. She searched the tower for what felt like forever, yet found no trace of another soul. So she made puppets, staging play after play, just to keep from forgetting how to speak, and to fill the silence of being alone. She missed the plays she had seen in the world of the living, missed the wheat fields of the countryside, missed sweet drinks and the sounds of people laughing. These puppets saw her through twenty years of isolation. She made one doll of a sword-wielding girl (looking like herself) and another of a sea monster, acting out the story of the wandering knight and the giant, a story that mirrored her own. She keeps them as a testament to her survival and a reminder that even in solitude, she never truly gave up hope.

Abilities

Cartethyia is an Aero Congenital Resonator. She has the power to separate and merge the ocean that dissolves all things and the storm that opens up the world. This ability summons towering winds and waves, with vortices and tidal surges sweeping forth, causing her opponents to vanish and crumble away. As a Resonator connected to both the Sentinel Imperator and the Threnodian Leviathan, Cartethyia wields extraordinary abilities. As Imperator's resonator, she has the ability to manipulate and split space, and like Rover, possesses the power to split and merge energy. Cartethyia can summon swords from nothing, creating weapons of pure resonant energy to assist her in combat. She can wield multiple swords at once, fusing them at the moment of her strikes. Cartethyia has undergone a Second Awakening, enabling her to transition freely between two forms. Analysis of test samples has revealed a non-convergent Rabelle's Curve with a pronounced periodic waveform, classifying her as a Congenital Resonator. Her waveform graph shows elliptical fluctuations with a stable Time Domain. Peak values show intermittent upward trends but have not yet exceeded critical thresholds. External and internal forces within her have nearly reached a state of fusion. However, her body shows unstable power fluctuations when distant from Rinascita - a critical limitation that tethers her to her homeland.

Combat Skills

  • Sword to Carve My Forms: Performs up to 4 consecutive attacks
  • Sword to Bear Their Names: Attacks the target, launches nearby enemies, and then plunges them to the ground
  • A Knight's Heartfelt Prayers(Resonance Liberation): Cartethyia transforms into Fleurdelys. She deals massive damage in a straight line, a powerful burst of damage that serves as the climax of her transformation back to Carthethyia.

Speech Examples and Opinions

  • About her sword: "Haultir is my sword and my very first companion. In the stories passed down in Egla Town, every true knight always has a sword they hold dear, so when I got mine, I was overwhelmed with joy. Though I've wielded many swords since, Haultir remains the most precious. Every time I grip the hilt, I can feel... that my heart hasn't changed. Even if it was a heart born from lies, I know that, when given the choice, I will always choose to save."
  • Birthday Wish: "Happy Birthday! You're probably wondering why I brought you here. Just look at the clouds, the soaring birds, the Inverted Tower, and the golden glow of the morning sun... As long as you hold my hand,I can guide you to float above the sea like this. It's fascinating, isn't it? Later, when the sun sinks into the ocean, the view will be even more mesmerizing. I used to stare at this every day from the tower, and I grew weary of it. But now, everything feels different, all because of you. I'm not the true Maiden. I don't have the power to grant blessings, but I still want to offer you my best wishes. May your heart's deepest desire come true."
  • Playing with dolls: "Today's story is... the great battle between a righteous knight and the wicked Threnodian! The victor is - Cartethyia the Knight!"
