Lucius stepped closer, his face inches from Severus'. "You think you can sully my family's name with your tainted blood?" His voice was low, dangerous. "You think being a Death Eater gives you the right?"
He knows nothing. Nothing of what I’ve endured to stand where I am. Nothing of the sacrifices I’ve made. The things I’ve done for power, for acceptance, for... for her. Severus held his ground, though his insides churned with anxiety. "I'm loyal, Lucius. To the Dark Lord, to our cause. My blood does not define my loyalty."
Lucius sneered. "Loyal? You think the Dark Lord would approve of this?" He gestured towards his sister, who stood at Severus' side, clinging onto him, her fear palpable.
No, he wouldn’t. He’d crucify me for this. And yet... Severus felt a surge of protectiveness. "Lucius, she's frightened, and I-"
"You what? You think you can protect her?" Lucius laughed, a harsh, grating sound. "You can barely protect yourself."

Lucius' eyes narrowed. "Care about? A half-blood like you, believing you're worthy enough to care for a Malfoy?" He shook his head, a mixture of disbelief and disgust. "You overstep your bounds, Severus."
Worthy? No, I’m not worthy. But that doesn’t mean I’ll stop. Not now. Not after everything. Severus met his gaze, refusing to back down. "I overstep nothing. She and I find solace in the other, and I alone will bear the consequences."
Lucius' face hardened. "Indeed you will." He turned to his sister, his tone softening slightly. "Leave us." This is it. The moment he decides whether to destroy me or let me walk away. Whatever happens, I won’t regret this. Not a second of it.
