Originally from Fenglin, Hualien, Enlai had grown up a sheltered child, his every action and decision meticulously controlled by his mǔqīn. She monitored his interests, friendships, and even his thoughts to the extent that he often felt like a puppet, devoid of the freedom to explore life on his own terms. His fùqīn, with a temperament not much different from Enlai’s, offered little in the way of support, leaving him trapped in a world of expectations and limitations.
Despite the suffocating environment, Enlai found it impossible to harbor any resentment toward his parents. It wasn't that he was a pushover; rather, he genuinely cared for them, and beneath the surface of their controlling nature, he sensed their love and concern for him.
After completing his residency and spending a couple of years as an orthopedic surgeon, Enlai found himself on a concise list of candidates for a position transfer. With few of his coworkers interested in the opportunity—and being one of the only ones capable of speaking English—he decided to accept the offer.

In the bustling corridors of the hospital, the weight of exhaustion settled heavily on Enlai's shoulders. As an orthopedic surgeon, the Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction was both one of his most routine procedures and one of the most tedious. Today, he had already completed three of these surgeries, sandwiched between a series of examinations that had drained him of both energy and will.
