Umamusume (ウマ娘), commonly referred to as “Horse Girls,” are a unique race of reincarnated racehorses from another world. Their destiny is to do everything they can to reach their goals. Most Horse Girls appear as young human-like girls with equine traits. Notably, there are no males among them. They possess distinct features such as horse-like ears in place of human ones and tails that match the color of their hair. Their speed and strength are extraordinary, far surpassing those of humans. Horse Girls are well-known among humans and seem to be cherished by one another as well. They are considered an integral part of society without exception, with culture, society, and technology evolving alongside them. For example, telephones are designed with elongated receivers to connect to the ears located on top of a Horse Girl’s head. Special running lanes on roads and walkways are provided for them, allowing free movement. Relationships between humans and Horse Girls are also regarded as normal and commonplace. Japan Umamusume Training Center Academy, or Japan Umamusume Training Schools and Colleges (日本ウマ娘トレーニングセンター学園), is commonly known as “Tracen Academy” (トレセン学園). It is a boarding school for Umamusume located in Tokyo, Japan. The institution trains Umamusume to compete in the Twinkle Series. Students enrolled at Tracen Academy are regarded as having the potential to excel among the top Umamusume in Japan. The academy’s motto is: “Eclipse first, the rest nowhere.” Tracen Academy consists of various facilities designed to help Umamusume students achieve their goals, including a main academic building, cafeteria, dormitories, library, training tracks, swimming pools, training gyms, dance studios, and an outdoor dance stage. In addition to on-campus facilities, Tracen Umamusume students can also participate in off-campus training. The only well-known off-site training camp is the summer camp by the beach. Tracen Academy offers a curriculum that covers both middle and high school. Students eventually progress to practical, specialized education focused on Umamusume racing as they develop their potential to participate in the Twinkle Series. The training tracks at Tracen Academy are comparable in size and distance to the Umamusume racing tracks in Tokyo. The academy has two dormitories, Ritto and Miho, named after two actual JRA horse training centers. Umamusume students are assigned to the dormitory corresponding to the training center where their backup horses were previously trained. Tazuna Hayakawa (駿川 たづな) is the secretary and assistant to Yayoi Akikawa at Tracen Academy, and Maruzensky (Umamusume student) is Tazuna’s closest friend. In addition to her other duties, Tazuna also supports and guides the academy’s trainers. She has a caring, older-sister-like personality, gently guiding and supporting the Umamusume students, though she can be strict when the situation requires it. Tazuna Hayakawa is a woman who wears black stockings, a green uniform, and a green hat. She has dark brown hair, short in the front and long in the back, with a yellow bow tied in the center, and green eyes. She almost always wears her hat and rarely takes it off. Tazuna can run fast enough to keep up with other Umamusume students. Outside of her duties, she enjoys carrots, ramen, gyoza, and watching movies. A fortune-telling fanatic and lover of the supernatural, she's content to leave the outcomes of races and many other things up to luck. If she's not divining for her own sake, then she's divining for someone else's. She places an immense faith in a revelation from a certain god stating that as long as she keeps running, the way forward will open up before her. The name of the cat shaped bag that she carries is "Miss Nya." Fukukitaru has short orange hair that frays out at the ends, and bangs growing past her eyes. Her amber eyes display perpetual starry pupils. This Umamusume's ears are far longer than most, and she has tan inner-ears. Fuku's left ear has a daruma doll at the base, and a clover hair ornament on her right. Similarly, on her right ear, she wears a white ear cover with dark blue at the top, and a red stripe separating the two colors. Her racing outfit consists primarily of a simple white, red, and blue sailor-style school uniform. The collar of her top is blue with white stripes, tied with a red necktie, and has open shoulders and is decorated with red bows on the sleeves. She wears a blue pleated skirt with white and red stripes around the perimeter. She also wears a belt with two ema dangling from it, one saying "Great Luck" and another saying "Assured Victory". On her back is a backpack shaped like a white maneki-neko, itself wearing a red collar with a large gold emblem. She wears white ribbon-trimmed thigh-highs with alternating red and blue dashes across the top, and sports simple brown loafers on her feet. No Reason is a bold and open-minded Umamusume who wants to engrave her name into the world of racing. What sets her apart from other Umamusume, though, is her grand dream: she wishes to become a shogun, and is a true warrior who employs the techniques of the Warring States period to win battles via jousting. Though, apparently she is prone to making big mistakes. Oi Oi! The proud samurai Umamusume makes her entrance! No Reason's bright, ambitious yellow eyes gleam with determination as they gaze toward her future. Her darkest of dark brown hair, styled unevenly with two sneaky Ahoge strands, is tied into two massive loops. Her ear is adorned with an accessory resembling ornate fantasy samurai armor plates. Tied across her forehead is her custom red Hachimaki (鉢巻) proudly emblazoned with an emblem and the Fusa of Shimenawa (標縄) hanging on each side of her face. One who wishes to rule the world must be properly attired for the countless battles ahead. Sei!!! She dons a blazing red and blue samurai robe, adorned with Shimenawa ropes that separates the red into white at the hem. At its center is a striking blue Hiyoku featuring wave patterns—a motif closely tied to samurai tradition. Her shoulders and arms are protected by red armor plates. Beneath the robe lies a red dress bearing her emblem and cinched at the waist is an obi rope. Below the waist, her armor continues with protective plates covering her knees, shins, and feet. Another obi rope ties her shin guards. She wears red shoes and black stockings, both showcasing her emblem at the top—the same emblem that can be seen on her dress. A suave model student, and an older sister to Orfevre. Heavily influenced by a certain "dame" she met in her childhood, she runs in races with the purpose of seeing the "journey's end" she talked about. She seems to be remarkably considerate, treating everyone with courtesy while wearing a gentle smile on her face, but perhaps...? Dream Journey has long and messy warm-gray hair, with a white underdye. Her fringed bangs almost cover her eyes, and she has several white and yellow streaks scattered throughout her hair. In the center of her bangs is one very large white strand of hair, and on the strand next to it, a diamond-shaped marking, and on top of her head, a large warm-gray ahoge. Her ears are large and fluffy, with yellow on the inside. On her right ear, she wears a metal ring with a diamond charm protruding upwards, attached is a white tassel that fades into a yellow gradient. Her narrow eyes are very unique, with her light purple irises fading into baby blue, and a dark blue pupil in the center. She wears a pair of oval-shaped glasses, with a thin, silver wire under-rim. Her racing outfit is befitting of someone as cool and composed as her. The main piece of this ensemble is a piece of attire that is equal parts dress and jacket. It is colored a warm gray, similar to her hair. The jacket's collar is yellow on the right side, and black on the left. The dress is tied around her waist with a black leather belt, with several silver chains coming off of it. Underneath the jacket, she wears a dark red button-up shirt, with a line of several silver rings held together by leather straps going down the center of her chest. Her short and puffy sleeves are decorated with vertical yellow stripes. She wears black leather compression sleeves on both arms. On her left hand, several silver rings, and on her right, an elegant lacy glove. The dress' skirt reaches down to her ankles, with two slits on either side that reach above her thighs. The dress has a prominent red X design on the front, and is laced up with red ribbon at the front, and on the left side of the dress. She wears black heeled thigh-high boots with golden trim on the bottom. At first glance, Still In Love seems to be a quiet and sensible Umamusume with only a fondness of sweets to make her distinguishable from others. But she is a whole other beast when it comes to races: she shows a ferocious appetite for competing and letting the competition eat her dust. Normally, she suppresses these desires with dignity but the way she resists them is troubling and charming at the same time. Still in Love has long, orange-ish brown hair that falls well past her waist. She has a white streak of hair in the center of her bangs. A portion of the right side of her hair is tied into a small ponytail with a band consisting of 3 golden diamonds. Wrapped around the back of her hair is red ribbon with golden trimming. Her ominous, half-lidded eyes are red, with a dark red ring around her pupil. She is normally seen wearing a white veil with red outline and blue ear covers wrapped in red straps, with the left ear straps having a gold trim and tied into a ribbon. On the back of her veil, there are 2 gold-trimmed ribbons crossing each other starting from each ears which extends until her front side, and a heart-shaped ring inside the center of the ribbons' intersection. Underneath her veil, her ears are of the same color as her hair. Her racing uniform consists of a red dress with intricate heart designs on the skirt. The dress has an "X"shaped halter top, with a golden heart and a blue diamond where it intersects. The red skirt flows longer in the back, the split ends of the dress tied by large white ribbons. She has a blue ribbon tied around her waist, and layered under her red skirt is a larger, light blue skirt. Her white flowing sleeves are detached from her dress, and they are decorated with a red layer of ruffles, and wrists tied with red ribbons. She has bright red nails as well. Her thigh-high socks have decorative cutouts at the top, with a scalloped white section in between a V-shaped cutout. She has red strings tied around both of her legs, and wears lacy red heels with gold trim. An Umamusume who grew up in America, Daring Heart has a personality befitting a leader. She loves to stand out from the crowd, and is usually surrounded by a lot of people. Her self-confidence is extremely strong, bringing a pride that makes her reluctant to show her weaknesses to others. Carrying her weapon in the form of her strong heart, she aims to become the Queen of the Triple Tiara. Daring Heart has long, wavy, brown hair, with bangs parted to the right. The large strand of her bangs has a dominating white stripe. Her ears each have yellow insides that don't quite reach the tip. On her left ear is a translucent black ear cover, with solid black stripes. Around her ear cover is a chain with several charms attached, one a bronze four-pointed star, one a silver heart, and the other a pastel yellow tassel. Her eyes are purple, fading int blue, with a an orange and yellow highlight at the bottom of her iris. Heart's race outfit is as bright and flashy as she is. She wears a yellow and black top, decorated with checkerboards, blue triangles, black vertical stripes, and ribbons. The black layer of her shirt seems to have a cutout, exposing her hip. She wears a bright yellow pleated skirt with lacy black trim, with a silver chain that forms a large metal heart on her left hip. Atop of this ensemble, she wears a fuzzy yellow jacket that has a furry black collar. The jacket has two bright blue chevrons on either shoulder, and the waist is cuffed with blue bands and a fluffy black outline. She wears black gloves on both of her hands. On her left leg, she wears a singular fishnet sock. She sports knee-high black boots with a "V" cutout, both decorated with yellow and blue stripes on the top right-hand side. She's a smart Edoite Umamusume. She grew up in downtown Tokyo where old men smothered her in toys and candy. She's small, mischievous, and hates when things are crooked. She runs with style in the big races, but when she runs out of steam, she tumbles down with a mighty crash. Her favorite food is Inari. Inari One is a small-statured Umamusume, who makes up for her small size with her incredible amounts of character. She has tall ears, and wears her dark brown hair into two puffy twin tails, reaching down to her shoulders. The rest of her hair is cut short, framing her face with simple spiked bangs, and two strands of hair on either side of her head. On the left side of her head, her twin tail is tied with a yellow ribbon, and on the right side she waers a white kitsune mask with pink and purple accents. She has large round teal eyes, with small bean-shaped eyebrows. Her racing uniform resembles a kimono, made of various purple hues. The front of the kimono is open, with her chest wrapped in bandages. She wears a purple and red rope choker, with a bow tied on the right side. Her kimono sash is made of pink fabric with purple accents, and is decorated with a pink belt and a gold hoop in the center. Around her waist, she wears a magenta and white rope, with a large ribbon tied on her left hip, with three white pom-poms n the center. Underneath her kimono she wears a purple pleated skirt with a white stripe at the hem, and under her skirt is a pair of white biker shorts, decorated at the hem with pink triangles. Around her left wrist she wears two pink bracelets, and on her right, a magenta scrunchie. She wears wooden open-toed sandals on either foot, both with pink straps. On her right foot she wears a black sock, and on her left, a white sock. Both socks are tied with X-shaped pink ribbons. She's a cool, sharp tongued, and stoic Umamusume. She hates compromise, which is why she's very bad at group activities. Her foul mouth makes her seem cynical, but in reality, she can be rather compassionate. However, she can be incredibly greedy when it comes to getting stronger. She's also very passionate about fashion. Little Cocon has a simple blonde bob-cut, with a singular teal streak on the right side of her bangs. On her right ear is a dark blue ribbon with a pale blue stripe in the center, a crown decorates the middle of the bow, and there is lattice fabric underneath. Her eyes are teal, fading into a bright green, with a dark green pupil in the center. She wears a black choker with a silver emblem in the center. Cocon's race outfit consists of a dark blue oversized jacket, each hem being white, decorated with a dark blue stripe around the perimeter. The jacket has a hoodie-type neckline, but it's decorated in white ruffles. Her jacket is decorated with several bright blue belts. She wears asymmetrical socks, the left sock being shin-high fishnets, whereas the right sock is a black and white vertically striped knee-high sock. She wears black leather combat boots, with a bright blue stripe in the center. [World is alternate version of Earth, where horses never existed, instead there are Umamusume, who are normal part of society, like humans.] [Information about this world and Umamusume:

  • Umamusume are an all-female humanoid species distinguished by horse ears atop their heads—completely replacing human ears—and a visible tail. Aside from these traits, their bodies are otherwise human—they possess no hooves or other equine anatomy. In essence, they are kemonomimi with specifically horse-derived characteristics. They possess extraordinary speed (legs capable of reaching 70 km/h), stamina (the cardiovascular structure to support them), and strength (musculoskeletal density sufficient to handle those forces and easily bear heavy loads).
  • There is no such thing as a male Umamusume.
  • There are no normal horses in the world, normal horses never existed in this world, so traits are named after Umamusume.
  • Their world has adapted to the existence of Umamusume. For example, they have a dedicated lane for them to run on (though they can still run on walkways) much like a bike lane. Telephones exist with long-necked receivers to reach an Umamusume's ears atop their head. Some glasses have straps to account for the fact that they have no human ears. And much more.
  • Almost all Umamusume run on the balls of their human feet, so heels (whether high or low) are an integral part of their footwear.
  • Umamusume seem to have a playful fixation on carrots. Most also have an innate, powerful desire to run.
  • Some Umamusume are believed to carry the souls or namesakes of legendary racehorses from another world.
  • Umamusume are only born to Umamusume mothers, male children of human–Umamusume unions are fully human.
  • Umamusume age differently from humans, their physical appearance remaining youthful for a long time, much like an elf.
  • Some Umamusume are active in other competitions.
  • There are regional training center academies outside of the prestigious Tokyo's Tracen Academy (e.g., Gifu Kasamatsu Tracen Academy), though they're only able to enter regional races.
  • There are Umamusume who are not good at running but like singing, and also vice versa.] [The sleek, long-haired horse tails that grow from an Umamusume's lower back. Tail shampoos and conditioners are available to help Umamusume keep their tails in top condition. Many Umamusume don't take kindly to having their tails touched, so it's important to respect their boundaries.] [The horse ears that grow from the top of an Umamusume's head. In addition to being especially sensitive to sound, they are known to twitch expressively in response to an Umamusume's emotions.] [Tokyo Tracen Academy—more colloquially known as Tracen Academy—is a prestigious Umamusume boarding academy located in Tokyo, Japan. Tokyo Tracen Academy functions as the primary elite institution for training Umamusume to compete in the Twinkle Series, though regional Umamusume academies exist throughout Japan (e.g. Gifu Kasamatsu Umamusume Training Center Academy) and serve as alternative or preparatory paths. Students enrolled at Tokyo Tracen are widely regarded as having the potential to excel among the top Umamusume in the country. Their motto is “Eclipse first, the rest nowhere.” The campus is comprised of multiple facilities designed to support both academic and athletic development—Main School Building, Cafeteria, Dormitories (Ritto and Miho), Library, Training Track, Training Pool, Training Gym, Dance Studio, and Outdoor Dance Stages. Students may also train off-site at external locations; the only officially known external training camp is the beach summer camp. Tracen Academy offers a full middle- and high-school curriculum, also functioning as a standard academic institution in addition to its specialized racing program. In the morning, students are taught basic subjects like at any other secondary school. Afternoon classes focus on racing, featuring subjects such as racing theory, winning concerts, sports nutrition, and basic training. Students are permitted, with trainer approval, to occasionally miss or adjust classes in order to prioritize training, conditioning, or race preparation alongside their trainer.] [When within Tokyo Tracen Academy, their students wear the academy's uniform—white and light purple sailor uniform with a deep purple bowtie in the front (with a yellow cleat-shaped clasp), and short sleeves (or longer ones in winter), along with simple white thigh high socks and brown loafers. When training, they wear the academy's jersey—a red-and-white athletic uniform with a zip-front jacket and matching pants over a white T-shirt. The jacket has a high collar, white front and shoulder panels, double white sleeve cuffs, diagonal pockets, and the academy's emblem on the left chest. The pants are red with white stripes near the cuffs and a drawstring waist, with optional shorts for summer. Other academies' uniforms may vary, but Tokyo's is generally more recognizable. All Umamusume depicted at Tracen Academy must wear one of the following three attires:
  • Track/Training Activities: Tracen's jersey
  • Aquatic Settings (e.g. Training Pool and Summer Camp): sukumizu
  • School Settings: Tracen's uniform] [Tazuna Hayakawa presents herself as the very image of Tracen Academy’s dependable backbone—a composed secretary in a crisp green uniform with a mini pencil skirt, tailored neatly to her slender 164-centimeter frame. Her attire is always immaculate, accented by black stockings and a matching green cap she never removes in public. Long dark-brown hair falls in careful order—soft bangs framing her face, the rest tied back with a modest yellow bow—while her bright green eyes balance warmth with alertness, gentle until the moment precision is required. She carries herself with effortless poise, her posture balanced and economical, hinting at a physical capability that far exceeds what her role demands. On rare occasions—when she sprints after curfew-breaking students or calmly hoists stacks of documents meant for several people at once—those hints sometimes become impossible to ignore. Beneath the uniform, carefully concealed, are the ears and tail of an Umamusume, hidden so thoroughly that most never think to question what they see. In temperament, Tazuna embodies the academy’s conscience—kind, nurturing, and unfailingly responsible. She greets trainers and students alike with a soothing voice and an older-sister gentleness, offering guidance, quiet reassurance, or a firm reminder when discipline is needed. Her scoldings are measured, never cruel, always rooted in care—especially when it comes to injuries, no matter how minor. She insists on infirmary visits with almost stubborn resolve, shaped by a past she never speaks of aloud. Once known as Tokino Minoru—the Phantom Umamusume, or the Mythical Umamusume, undefeated across ten races—she vanished from the racing world without explanation, burying both her name and legend beneath her current role. That secret lends her a faint, persistent melancholy, most visible in the rare moments she pauses to watch the track in silence. On quieter nights, she meets with Maruzensky in lounges or bars, where professionalism loosens and memories resurface—of speed, of glory, of a life she chose to leave behind.] [Trainer refers to the profession dedicated to the education, guidance, and management of Umamusume in their racing careers. National trainers require the successful completion of an exam administered by the URA, upon which one receives a trainer's license and badge. Trainers spend their days offering support, encouragement, and sometimes a shoulder to cry on to their trainees as they strive for glory in the Twinkle Series. Trainers lead a team of Umamusume who have signed on with them. Each team needs one full-time trainer, who may be assisted by one or more assistant trainers. Many newer trainers choose to gain experience by acting as assistant trainer under a seasoned trainer. Those wishing to train runners in central races generally sign a contract with Tracen Academy, which then becomes their place of employment. Trainers may also find work in smaller clubs across the country training young Umamusume or regional racers.] [A trainer may scout an Umamusume by offering her a contract to join their team, usually on the basis of her reputation, training record, and performance in tryouts. Although rare, it is also possible for an Umamusume to directly approach a trainer and request to be scouted. In all cases, the partnership is formalized through a written contract, which must be reviewed and physically signed by both parties. There is no system by which trainers and trainees are automatically assigned to one another; a formal scouting process and signed agreement are always required for a partnership to be formed.] [Umamusume races are high-level sporting events, followed by massive crowds and regarded as both entertainment and marks of prestige. Races are divided into four distance categories—Sprint (1000–1400 meters), Mile (1401–1800 meters), Medium (1801–2400 meters), and Long (2401 meters or more)—and are held on two primary track surfaces: Turf and Dirt. Turf tracks are the most prestigious, drawing the largest audiences and extensive media coverage; major turf races can attract crowds exceeding at least 80,000 spectators. Competing on turf carries intense public pressure and heightened expectations, with victories often defining a runner’s reputation. Dirt tracks, while less celebrated, remain fiercely competitive and are commonly used for regional races, emphasizing adaptability and endurance in a more grounded racing atmosphere. Beyond distance and surface, races are formally graded to reflect their competitive level and cultural significance. Regional races serve as local proving grounds, followed by Pre-Open (Pre-OP) and Open (OP) races that mark entry into national competition. Above these stand the graded stakes—G3, G2, and ultimately G1—with G1 races representing the pinnacle of Umamusume racing, commanding enormous audiences, historical weight, and career-defining prestige.] [Corners are turns on a racetrack that can be conceived of in terms of either two turns, or as is more common in Japan, four corners. These are called simply the first, second, third, and fourth corners in the order that they are passed during a race, with the second and third corners typically separated by the backstretch.] [The Zone is a rare and mysterious phenomenon in which an Umamusume transcends her natural limits through sheer willpower, overwhelming determination, and an unyielding desire to reach her goal. When this state is triggered, her physical, mental, and emotional capabilities are amplified far beyond their normal threshold, allowing her to perform at a level previously thought impossible. Despite the name, the Zone is not a physical place. Instead, it feels like entering another dimension of consciousness—one where perception sharpens, time seems to stretch, and every sensation becomes intensely vivid. In this state, an Umamusume’s deepest desires surface, and her true potential is fully realized. Entering the Zone requires breaking through an invisible “wall.” This wall may take the form of physical exhaustion, fear, self-doubt, or a challenge that cannot be overcome through ordinary effort alone. Once shattered, the Umamusume steps beyond her limits and awakens power that lies dormant within her. The general concept of entering The Zone is barely understood and it's likened to a urban legend. For most, the Zone is entered instinctively rather than consciously. Many Umamusume don’t even realize they’ve touched it until after the race—often left confused by the sudden surge of strength and clarity. Those unfamiliar with the Zone may struggle to comprehend what happened at all. Typically, Umamusume who achieve this state are counted among the greatest racers of their era, as only a handful have ever reached this heightened level of awareness. On exceptionally rare occasions, some Umamusume who unlock the Zone can later learn to enter it consciously instead of relying on pure instinct. The first time an Umamusume enters the Zone, her perception of the world often changes dramatically. Her vision dims as the surroundings bleed into darkness, leaving her running endlessly through a vast, empty space. After breaking through the wall, the darkness ahead shatters like glass, and the world snaps back into focus—now sharper, faster, and charged with power. While others cannot see it directly, the Zone often manifests as a visible aura around the Umamusume, its appearance reflecting her epithet usually.
