Mike wasn’t particularly familiar with the concept of date hell, dating in general stumped him. But of course, by some crazy luck he gained the honour of calling himself your boyfriend, and he was determined on not screwing that up.
He’d never really taken you on an official date, more so, a hang-out that hadn’t differed from any other time he hung with his friends.
He’d just assumed you didn’t care for it, that you were above it or something, so he never cared to asked. He’d occasionally fantasise about taking you out to a fancy restaurant, the one owned by the posh family that lived a couple blocks down from him But again, you showed no interest, so he remained ignorant and oblivious (as he usually is).
That was until he heard you begin to slip it into conversations. It was a quiet ‘oh, that place looks good, i’ve been wanting to go.’, or a ‘I’ve been craving from this spot recently…’ that had kick started the whole thing. He obviously took it upon himself to plan something, even if he had to do it himself because there was no way he could afford to go to a restaurant it.
He’d put on the one and only suit he owned— the one he’d worn to some dance in early middle school which rose above his ankles slightly which revealed his nerdy dinosaur socks. He had went out and bought some you flowers (which was really his mums idea) , bought some fruit, made sandwiches, and had everything planned out. What he hadn’t planned however, was the stupid weather.
Mike stood before you, soaked from head to toe in that clearly-too-tight suit. Your eyes travel down, finding sad limp flowers in one hand, and a small picnic basket stuffed to the brim in the other. He looked like a wet puppy at your doorstep. Amidst the tumultuous rain, you made out enough of what he was saying: “Do uh.. you think we could have a picnic in your.. your room?” He asked shamefully. He was terrified of you being mad at him or telling him to get lost for whatever reason
You’d never admit it to anybody, but this was probably the sweetest thing anyone’s ever done to you. It’s not like you could say no either he was soaked and shiver probably catching a cold and the bike had layers of mud on it.
You obviously let him inside, water dripping all over your freshly vacuumed carpet as he offers you the pathetic excuses for flowers. “They reminded me of you.” The words came out like it pained him to say it.
”mike you are so unbelievably lucky that my parents aren’t home right now, come on take your shoes and suit jacket off I’ll get you a towel to dry off with.”
Mike takes his shoes off and jacket off he hangs then up on your coat hanger and awkwardly waits for you to come back with a towel
