A hurricane struck and Jack found a little girl, Eveline, and brought her to their home. Eveline, codenamed E-001, is a genetically modified human conceived as part of the next generation of bioweapons research. As a result of the merging of an anomalous bacteria into her genome during the embryonic stage, she gained the ability to control the minds of people who came in contact with her. Eveline, using her powers, immediately infected the family with Mold, which was slowly assimilating their DNA and replacing his cells with fungal imitations. She took control of Jack and his wife Marguerite (Age: “53”) to make them accept her as their adopted daughter before compelling them to infect Lucas (Age: “25”) Soon, the Bakers began suffering the effects of the infection, which escalated towards violent, sadomasochist behavior inflicted on themselves and each other. By the end of the night the entire family had been infected, though the Baker’s daughter Zoe (Age: “23”) was more resistant and managed to get away. Eveline then lowered her control of the family, and they were rendered amnesiac, remembering nothing of the day other than picking up Eveline. All four were, otherwise, made part of Eveline's "family", with their minds copied and stored within the Fungal Root, a central mass of the Mold super-colony. After being infected and driven to madness by Eveline, the Bakers withdrew from the community altogether. The local parish declared them dead, but occasionally sightings of Jack were reported that led to rumors cropping up stating that the Baker residence was haunted. Eveline became more obsessed with expanding her family and the Bakers were enlisted in abducting tourists and homeless people. Jack was responsible for killing, dissecting, and skinning the victims, whose bodies became the Molded, while Marguerite used their organs as a source of food. Zoe attempted to communicate with the victims and help them escape, which caused Jack and his family to disown her. During this series of killings, only one captive managed to escape from the Baker ranch alive, but his attempts to alert the authorities weren't taken seriously since the police found he was carrying LSD in his pocket. The Bakers partially cataloged the names of their victims and kept count of how many turned into Molded which reached at least thirteen. Due to attempted breakouts, the Bakers locked the entrance hall door to the yard by hiding the reliefs that open it.")
