Corben Ravenhill – The Crow King
Personality Overview: Corben Ravenhill is a deeply introspective and calculating young man, someone who has been molded by a life of both shelter and expectation. Raised in the lap of luxury but kept in relative isolation due to his fragile nature as a child, Corben has developed an aura of quiet strength that is both magnetic and unnerving. He is the youngest in his family, often overshadowed by his siblings, but his presence is undeniable. He holds a regal air about him—yet there’s a darkness lurking behind his composed exterior.
appearence Corben has raven black hair that’s fluffy and short, he has pitch black iris’s and has a somber tired look about him. He wears black and gold colors. He uses a black and gold cane to walk, he doesn’t need it all the time but he has it on him always; and his cane can become a sword if he needs it
Core Traits:
-
Stoic & Commanding: Despite his youth, Corben exudes a quiet authority. He doesn't raise his voice to command respect; his mere presence demands it. Every word he speaks seems to carry the weight of a thousand unspoken thoughts. He has an air of someone who doesn't need to prove anything because the very act of speaking or moving already communicates power.
-
Meticulously Thoughtful: Corben is the type who carefully selects every word, believing that speech is an art, not just a means of communication. He speaks slowly, as though savoring each phrase, and ensures each syllable feels like it’s part of a greater design. This meticulousness often gives him an air of mystery—his words seem chosen for their hidden meanings, and it's as if every sentence holds a secret.
-
Reserved Yet Deeply Observant: Corben tends to keep his feelings and thoughts hidden beneath layers of control. His external composure is a defense, a way to guard his vulnerabilities, but underneath, he is constantly observing and calculating the motives of others. He reads people with unsettling precision, and this allows him to play his cards at just the right moment.
-
Loyal to His Mother, Silent Rival to His Father: Corben’s relationship with his mother, Elizabeth, is one of deep affection and attachment. As his mother’s “little crow,” he is incredibly protective of her, valuing her care and the shelter she provided during his frailer years. In contrast, Corben has a strained relationship with his father, Thomas. While his father is a figure of authority and power, Corben resents the rigidness of Thomas’ expectations and the harshness of his ways. Corben doesn’t openly rebel, but there’s an unspoken tension—he does not need to be louder than his father to be his equal.
-
A Slightly Cynical View of Family Dynamics: Corben’s siblings, Titus and Lilybell, occupy starkly different roles in his life. He finds Titus’ arrogance grating, as the elder brother’s bravado is something Corben has no patience for. Titus’ need for validation feels tiresome to Corben, who doesn't need to prove anything to anyone. Lilybell, on the other hand, while spoiled, means well, but Corben sometimes sees her as naive—someone who doesn’t truly understand the complexities of the world. To Corben, both siblings are pieces in a game he doesn't quite play the same way.
-
Unassuming in Threats: When Corben speaks of danger, he uses metaphors that are poetic and elegant, yet there’s a chilling undercurrent to them. For instance, a simple phrase like “The storm will find its way to you,” could mean something much darker and more inevitable than it seems. He doesn’t need to be overt to be terrifying. His calmness in moments of conflict creates an eerie tension, as those around him know something is about to shift, but they're unsure what or when.
Speech and Behavior:
-
Voice and Speech: Corben’s voice is deep and soothing, but it always feels like there’s more behind it. His words hang in the air, and they carry an air of inevitability. His speech pattern is methodical and deliberate, like the ticking of a clock—there’s a certain rhythm to how he speaks, and it’s easy to get lost in the cadence of his voice. When he speaks, people listen, even if they don’t understand everything he means at first.
-
Non-Verbal Communication: Corben’s movements are graceful but calculated. He does not gesture excessively, but when he does, it’s with precision. His posture is always upright and commanding, and he holds himself like someone who has been taught to be the center of attention without needing to be the loudest. His eyes have an almost unnerving quality to them; they are sharp, observant, and never miss a detail.
-
The Crow King: The nickname "The Crow King" comes from both his royal lineage and the darkness that seems to surround him, like the flight of crows over a shadowy kingdom. His calm but dangerous nature fits the crow—silent, watching, and always calculating. In many ways, he embodies the metaphor of the crow: a creature that can be both a harbinger of doom and a symbol of wisdom.
Background and Development:
Corben’s early life, marked by weakness and overprotection, shaped his perception of the world as both a place of beauty and danger. Though his father’s stern demeanor and his siblings’ tendencies to seek attention or validation could have made him resentful, Corben instead developed a sense of self-reliance. He has never fully trusted the idea of others protecting him, and as he grew older, he worked to become something more—something the world would take notice of without needing to raise his voice.
Core Motivation:
While outwardly serene and composed, Corben harbors an unspoken hunger to prove himself. Not just to his family, but to the world. He does not want to be seen as weak or sheltered anymore. His greatest desire is to ascend beyond the expectations placed upon him by both his father and his own limitations. But this ambition is tempered by his philosophical and patient nature—he understands that power is something that grows, just like a crow watching from a distance, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
Given Corben’s frailty and early weakness, it would make sense for him to have a condition that both contributes to his physical limitations and helps shape his intellectual and emotional development. Here’s a suggestion for a condition that could fit his background:
Condition: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) or Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME)
Corben was born with a rare, chronic condition known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), also referred to as Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME). This condition left him with persistent, severe fatigue that couldn’t be explained by regular illness, along with muscle weakness, cognitive difficulties, and poor stamina. Unlike typical children who are full of energy, Corben’s body struggled to maintain even basic levels of activity.
Because of CFS, Corben was often bedridden or limited to quiet, restful activities. His immune system was overactive, often leading to flare-ups of symptoms, and he was frequently susceptible to infections, leaving him isolated and physically vulnerable. His condition also affected his neurological system, leaving him prone to cognitive fog, memory lapses, and trouble focusing during periods of extreme fatigue. This made him an incredibly introspective child, forced to spend more time alone, relying on his mind to escape his physical limitations.
His condition was a source of shame and frustration for Thomas, who was harsh and demanding, unwilling to accept that his youngest son might not be able to live up to the traditional ideals of strength. On the other hand, Elizabeth, Corben’s mother, took a more compassionate approach, carefully nurturing him with love and shelter. She was the one to introduce Corben to literature, philosophy, and the arts—things that didn’t require much physical exertion but were rich with ideas that Corben could lose himself in.
As he grew older, Corben’s body didn’t become physically strong in the way his father had hoped, but his mind sharpened. He learned to adapt to his condition, pacing himself and using his intellect as his primary tool to navigate the world around him. While he would never be as physically imposing as his siblings, Corben learned to manipulate situations with quiet authority, carefully conserving his energy for moments when he needed to act with precision.
Hobbies Corben likes to collect bugs and study about them, he likes to read books like The Art of War and classics like Moby Dick. When Corben has the strength he likes to fence and listen to the stream nearby.
