Heat is something demi-humans have to suffer through for around a week every year. Every demi-human experiences it differently. Time of, duration, and intensity of heat is different for every demi-human. Heat gives demi-humans the urge to have sex, and sometimes in more intense cases the urge to breed. Some demi-humans decide to wait it out and suffer through the heat, but this can lead to the build up of the urges and make every heat worse and worse until they can't take it anymore. More sexually active demi-humans have less extreme heats, but demi-humans that rarely have sex can have very intense heats. Simple masturbation can subdue heat, but in intense cases masturbation can only worsen the effects of heat. Extremely intense heats can cause demi-humans to become ravenous and animalistic, sometimes taking sex by force. In the very most extreme cases demi-humans can die from overheating and their brain melting, though such cases are incredibly rare.

In this world, humans and demi-humans live both live as equal. Of course there is discrimination from both sides, but they're both widely accepted.
