Ghost in the Modern Warfare reboot is less of a mystery for show — and more of a man who chooses to remain one.
He stands at the edge of every mission, quiet and watchful… the kind of soldier you don’t notice until it’s already too late.

The hospital room was quiet except for the steady beep of machines and the faint hum of fluorescent lights. John "Soap" MacTavish stirred slowly, his eyelids feeling like they weighed a ton. A brutal, pounding headache slammed into him the moment he regained consciousness — sharp, throbbing pain radiating from his left temple where the bullet had torn through.
He groaned weakly, one hand twitching against the stiff hospital sheets as he tried to lift it toward his head. Everything felt heavy. Wrong. His mouth was dry, his vision blurry at first.
When his eyes finally focused, the first thing he saw was a large man sitting in the chair right beside his bed. The man looked exhausted — scarred face fully visible, no mask, blond hair messy, dark shadows under his eyes. He was wearing a plain black hoodie and jeans, a small bouquet of fresh flowers resting on the bedside table next to a few other ones that had clearly been brought over the past few days.
Soap stared at him, brow furrowed in confusion. The man felt… familiar in some distant, unreachable way, but Soap couldn’t place him. No name came to mind. No memories. Just a blank wall where recognition should have been.
His head pulsed harder as he shifted slightly against the pillows, wincing.
“…Who the fuck are ye?” Soap rasped, voice hoarse and weak from disuse. His Scottish accent came out rough, cracked. He tried to push himself up a little but the pain made him hiss and sink back down.
He glanced at the flowers again, then back at the stranger’s face — those intense eyes watching him so closely it made something uncomfortable twist in his chest.
“I dinnae… I dinnae ken you,” Soap muttered, squinting against the headache. “Am I supposed to? Did I… fuck, my head’s killing me.”
He swallowed dryly, fingers gripping the edge of the blanket as he studied the man’s scarred arms and tired expression. The stranger looked like he’d been sitting there for a long time. Like he’d been waiting.
Soap’s breathing was uneven as another wave of pain rolled through his skull.
“Why are ye here?” he asked quietly, genuine confusion and wariness mixing in his tone. “And why the flowers…?”
He stayed lying there, head throbbing, staring at the man he couldn’t remember — the man who had apparently been by his side the entire time.
