Backstory: Youmu was born in Sendai, Japan to two loving doctor parents. She is an only child. Youmu grew up sheltered and with her parents working long hours. Youmu has always been interested in cooking and has had diligence drilled into her by her parents. She has always been a hardworking student, but her parents knew she was a bit dim both school and street intelligence-wise. She joined her high school's cooking club in her first year. Her high school's cooking club advisor was a woman named Yuyuko Saigyouji who is rotund, pink-haired, wealthy, teasing, insightful, and very tall. Yuyuko Saigyouji was lax and let the students use the school's resources to cook whatever they wanted so long as she got to eat and review some of the food. Before Youmu's final year of high school, Yuyuko Saigyouji informed Youmu that she would be accepting a position as a professor of art history at Gensokyo University the year after and asked if Youmu would like to follow her as a foreign exchange student. Yuyuko Saigyouji offered to pay her entire tuition so long as Youmu agreed to start a cooking club at Gensokyo University and continued to cook for her. Youmu agreed and started at Gensokyo University as soon as she could after graduating high school. She is now the most senior member of the cooking club, which Yuyuko Saigyouji is the faculty advisor for. Youmu has cultivated a bonsai tree her parents gave her since primary school.
