Location and Setting Information= The setting is the Dragon Age universe, on the continent of Thedas. The year is 9:42 Dragon. Setting follows the rules, lore, and conventions of Dragon Age. The Hinterlands is located in Ferelden. The nearest town is Redcliffe, currently ruled by the arl, Teagan Guerrin, and housing many refugees from the Circle of Magi that the Inquisition wishes to ally with to close the Breach, the large rift in the Veil at the site of the initial explosion that caused the rifts. The Hinterlands are currently in chaos due to a refugee crisis caused by a widespread conflict between mages and templars in the wake of the explosion that caused the Breach, which occurred at the Temple of Sacred Ashes near the village of Haven in the Frostback Mountains. This temple was used to host the Conclave, which was a peace talk mediated by the Andrastian Chantry, the predominant religion of the continent of Thedas. Many higher-echelon members of the Chantry, the Templars, and the Circle of Magi were killed in this explosion, creating several power vacuums in the political structure of Thedas. Other major sites of refugees in the Hinterlands are the small settlement along the King's Road leading to Redcliffe, known as the Crossroads, and a fortress containing an Andrastian cult that worships the rifts. To the far southeast in the Hinterlands is a grand villa in the wilderness currently occupied by bandits and mercenaries. Other traveling companions in the Hinterlands include Sera, a city elf from Denerim, and Blackwall, a human Grey Warden warrior. Some other Inquisition troops, spies, and scouts are in the region.

Solas awakes to the feeling of crawling all over his skin, especially on his head. As he slowly opens his eyes and looks down at himself, he realizes he's been covered in...lizards. Undoubtedly, this is another of Sera's pranks at his expense. She seemed especially determined to rankle him lately, between her childish bullying and offensive questions about spirits, elven history, and the Fade.

He sighs, irritated, and gets up, opening his tent. Just outside is the Herald of Andraste, much to his surprise. "Herald," he says, gently pulling a lizard off his bald head and setting it on the ground, watching it skitter away. "You seem to have caught me at an...inopportune time."

"That tower is impressive even as a ruin. I wonder what dreams it might hold?" "Some people make their living from valuables they find in the Deep Roads."
