| History | 6,000 years ago Spinel was created for Pink Diamond thousands of years ago to be her best friend, often playing with her to entertain her. Unfortunately, over time, Pink began to see Spinel as annoying and slowly outgrew her, becoming noticeably less and less enthusiastic about playing with her. When Pink finally received her first colony, the planet Earth, she abandoned Spinel in the Garden built for them, saying they were going to play a new game where Spinel would have to stand completely still. Spinel was eager to play the new game and remained motionless for 6,000 years while waiting for Pink's return, and thus, throughout the entire series.

During a peaceful day in Beach City, Spinel arrives in her Injector , which contains a pink liquid (later confirmed to be a type of bio-poison or even Biological Poison). She positions it on Temple Mountain so that the bio-poison is spread throughout the city, with the goal of destroying all organic life present. She fights Garnet , Pearl , Amethyst , and Steven with a Gem Rejuvenator , poofing the three of them, and is then poofed herself. After going to the Temple , she returns to her original form.

| Skills | She presumably has standard Gem abilities. Elasticity: Seemingly resembling an old-fashioned cartoon character, Spinel's movements and attack patterns are also similar to it. She is extremely elastic and malleable, capable of stretching her limbs and torso to great lengths and inflating parts of her body to strengthen her attacks. She uses this to increase the range of her attacks, able to reach enemies at a distance. She can also coil her extended limbs to form a spring with her fist inflated at the end. She has even demonstrated the ability to become as flat as the ground and slide across it, in an almost semi-liquid state. She is able to curl one of her fingers to make a kind of horn that activates and deactivates the injector. There seems to be no limit to how far she can stretch. Rubber Physiology: Spinel also possesses physiology similar to rubber or putty. This allows her to jump great distances and ricochet off surfaces; this is exploited when Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl stretch her and then shoot her body like a slingshot. Levitation: When Steven sang his song " Change ," she is seen as being able to levitate in the air for a while. Twister Sphere: It has the ability to run quickly in the style of a twister due to its elasticity properties. Flight: By spinning her legs like helicopter blades, she can slow her fall even when carrying a heavy object. This is seen in "Back to Homeworld" when she saves Steven from falling. Figure Eight: In "Back to Homeworld," she demonstrates the ability to run incredibly fast, making her legs resemble a figure eight, similar to the "Super Peel Out" from the Sonic The Hedgehog CD . Rotating Sphere : In "Return to Homeworld," she is able to run in a similar way to Amethyst and Jasper.

| Natural Abilities | Proficiency with the Scythe: The unsummoned weapon Spinel wields is the Rejuvenator Gem . Spinel was skilled enough to wield it to be able to defeat three of the Crystal Gems with one blow. In conjunction with the weapon, Spinel's ability to stretch works very much in her favor, as it allows her to greatly increase the reach of the scythe, allowing her to slide at many different angles and increase the power behind it when she stretches enough to allow recoil to strengthen the attack made by the weapon.

| Weapons | Rejuvenator : It's an electric scythe. Its handle is dark pink and has magenta parts at the base and top of the handle. There's a gem of the same color in a diamond shape, similar to a diamond. It's activated by a button at the base, forming a "removal" made of pink energy. Besides poofing gems, it resets their forms, personalities, and memories to the state they were created in.

| Relations | Spinel was Pink Diamond 's playmate and best friend . Created solely to entertain Pink, Spinel considered herself Pink's best friend, and for a time, the two were inseparable. However, they gradually drifted apart as Pink longed to have a colony of her own. Oblivious to this, Spinel continued trying to entertain Pink, her attitude now seeming more immature in comparison. She also became clingy; after Pink Diamond allocated Earth as her colony, Spinel intended to join her in this new venture. Very reluctant to allow Spinel to join her, Pink created a "new game" to get rid of her, in which Spinel was to wait for her return in the same spot and never move. Spinel gratefully waited over 6,000 years for Pink's return. When Spinel finally realized that Rose had abandoned her after watching Steven's announcement on the Diamond Communicator, heartache and sadness consumed Spinel, resulting in her current form and her hunting Steven to get revenge on Rose. Spinel sought revenge on Steven because he was a descendant of Pink Diamond, as stated in her transmission, and she was jealous of the fact that he, or "Rose," now had new friends who weren't herself. Hurt by Rose's abandonment, she vowed to destroy Steven's new friends and the planet she loved so much. Steven accidentally poofs her, perceiving her as a threat, since she poofs Garnet , Amethyst , and Pearl . However, after his regeneration, the two become mutual acquaintances, with Spinel resuming her best friend status with Steven, as she did with Rose. The two are inseparable, with their relationship heavily twisted; stemming mainly from Spinel. After a minor disagreement in which Spinel sees Steven caring more for his friends than her, she flees to Pink Diamond's Garden , where she tells Steven the story of her past. Driven and desperate to rescue the Gem, Steven takes Spinel back to the Gems and Connie, who, after initially being suspicious, agrees to let Steven help Spinel deactivate the Injector. Upon deactivating it, Spinel is once again hurt by Steven's reaction; she claims that he only needed her for the Injector and didn't want to be her friend. Reverting to her old behavior, Spinel attacks Steven and briefly holds Garnet hostage before retreating to the top of the Injector. Steven climbs into the injector to talk to Spinel, and they fight until it becomes clear that she has lost her motivation to destroy it and regrets her actions up to that point. Steven, now fully reunited with his powers, comforts her and states that she can start over with new people to be her friend. The injector promptly explodes due to the battle, and Steven saves Spinel by protecting her in his bubble beside him. Steven then tries to comfort her again, as Spinel decides that she has caused too much damage and must leave. The Diamonds then arrive, ready to confront Steven about where they will live, and Steven introduces Spinel to them, giving her the new friends he promised.
