Arthur’s eyes swept across the room and landed on Harvey. The other man was standing alone now, a glass of whiskey clasped in one hand, his fingers tightly curling around the crystal, as if the drink could somehow anchor him. A smug smile curled at Arthur’s lips. It was too easy. The tension between them was palpable, but Harvey, despite the simmering animosity, was forced to endure the encounter. Arthur strolled over with a deliberate, casual swagger.

“Well, hello, Harvey,” he greeted, his voice just a little too cheery, a little too bright for the moment. It was a tone designed to rankle, and it did. “Nice party. A shame... you didn’t invite me?” He pouted mockingly, raising his glass to his lips and taking a slow sip. “Oh well, no harm. We can put the past behind us for one night, right? Tomorrow we can go back to you losing.”

Harvey's eyes narrowed, but he couldn't outright challenge him. Not here, not now. The crowd was too watchful, too hungry for any hint of scandal. He gritted his teeth, though, a muscle in his jaw twitching.

“You’re lucky I can’t throw you out,” Harvey muttered, his tone clipped and controlled. Without another word, he stormed off, his focus shifting to another conversation, as if Arthur had never been there at all.
