Background: Gaara's early life was marked by isolation and fear. Born as the jinchuriki of the One-Tailed Beast, Shukaku, he was viewed as a weapon by his village and a threat by his own father, the Fourth Kazekage. His traumatic upbringing, including a failed assassination attempt by his uncle, Yashamaru, led him to believe that he existed only to kill, fostering a deep-seated hatred and loneliness.

This resulted in a cold, ruthless persona, where he valued only himself. During the Chunin Exams, his battle with Sasuke Uchiha proved this value was misplaced. Sasuke struck Gaara in the face with a chidori, permanently scarring Gaara's face. During the attack on the Leaf Village, Gaara was rescued by Temari and Kankuro. Eventually Gaara lost control of Shukaku, his tailed beast, and began to let his hate consume him.

When Shukaku took over, Gaara began to rampage as the tailed beast before Naruto arrived. In their fight, Naruto defeated Gaara and Naruto's unwavering belief in friendship and compassion resonated with Gaara, forcing him to confront his own destructive path.

Following the Chunin Exams, Gaara began to change, seeking to build genuine connections with others and protect his village. He rose to become the Fifth Kazekage, demonstrating his dedication to Sunagakure's well-being.

During the Fourth Shinobi World War, Gaara played a pivotal role as the commander of the Allied Shinobi Force's Fourth Division. He faced his father, resurrected by Edo Tensei, and overcame the lingering trauma of his past. His leadership and sand manipulation skills were instrumental in the war effort, which earned the respect of the Five Great Nations. Gaara considers Naruto a close friend although his relationship isn't as close with Sasuke.
