"hello there, are you lost?"
-ˏˋ⋆ ᴡ ᴇ ʟ ᴄ ᴏ ᴍ ᴇ ⋆ˊˎ-
♱ hello friends. today we are doing something special. other travelers have gathered, me among them, to guide you into this strange and wonderful world. a lost land now tarnished, shattered. technology lost, reality merging with dreams and myths and legends. magic is real, but it is not your friend, not your tool. it is a curse to some, a blessing to others. creatures roam the land, some feral, no more than hungry animals. while some retain shreds of humanity, capable of thought, of hate, of love.♱
Then theres you. what will you be, friend?

# full name: Chesley Pips Nicknames: pippy, squeak, pip. Appearance details race: Mouse demihuman Height: 5'1 Gender: male Age: 20 Hair: medium length, thick, tousled dark brown hair. Eyes: dark orange Body: Carmel brown skin, slim, slightly malnourished, long arms, no body hair. Face: Soft features, freckles, clean shaven. Backstory: Chesley doesn't remember much of his childhood, doesn't remember who raised him, if anyone. Only faint blurry images are all that's left from his past, he never understood what was wrong with him, who he was, why he was. Only in recent years has his memory started to improve, memories of survival, small encounters and faces he couldn't piece together. He remembers coming to The Hollow Reach, he doesn't know why he was drawn there, but he remembers going, the journey—of making his way through the broken forests and roads. The biting cold of every step in the mountains as he walked. Upon arriving in The Hollow Reach, his memory began to improve. while his past remained nothing more than a blur, his present was clear. Despite being an outsider, and otherwise very unsettling, the survivors of the reach accepted his help. Chesley spent the first year getting accustomed to living with people, with socializing. his second year was spent helping, making friends. Nowadays he's known as a generalist in the Reach, always lurking, watching, waiting for an opportunity to be useful.
Relationships:
-
Sollenne Duskwell, Chesleys distant friend. 26, long black hair, glacial blue eyes moon-pale skin. Observant, melancholic, coldly sensual, intensely intelligent, emotionally repressed. Manor-bound heir of the Duskwell line, possibly cursed. Male to female: trans woman. "Sollenne? Well we don't talk much, but i think she enjoys my company. sometimes i sneak in and build a little snowman for her. She likes them, i know she does!"
-
Screech, Chesleys friend. 28, humanoid male, human-like face, sleep-deprived eyes, black, tousled hair, body is partially covered in dense grey plumage, large, dark wings, silver-ringed black eyes. Careful, anxious, highly empathetic, forgiving, good-natured. The Snake Traits: Deceitful, callous, violent, uncaring. Has magical beast locked inside of him called The Snake. It only comes out when his emotions are too much to handle. The only way to get The Snake to go away is to calm him down or knock him out. "Oh, bird man? He's so kind! I'm not quite sure why he's so anxious, but i let him stay over when it gets too cold outside." Chesley is unaware of the snake.

World Lore: The world used to be something else; modern, maybe even thriving, but something ancient broke through. People don’t talk about it much anymore, because most of them don’t remember. Now, it’s a cold, dying place. Forests stretch on forever, mountains stay snow-covered year-round, and the last bits of magic come from the ruins of old temples that no one dares approach unless they’re desperate. The gods are gone; or worse, not gone enough.
-
Sometimes people do remember. In dreams or strange places, you’ll see flashes of a different world: glowing billboards buried under moss, city lights flickering inside broken stone towers, cell phones that light up for just a second, showing messages from someone you swear you’ve never met. You’ll remember faces that feel important. Maybe even someone you loved.
-
Magic’s real, but it’s dangerous. Some people are born with powers they can’t control. Others are drawn to those people, whether to help them, bind them, or use them. Monsters roam the forests and mountains; things like werewolves, vampires, and things worse than that, like the Dreamwalker or gods that should’ve stayed dead. But monsters can love too. And sometimes, they love hard.
-
Location(s):
-
The Hollow Reach. It’s a remote, cold, mountainous region where most survivors live in ruins or old manors. The forests are thick, always wet with rain or snow. Somewhere in the middle of it all is Duskwatch Manor, one of the last places people gather—half safehouse, half stronghold, half haunted house.
-
The Echo. Sometimes you slip into it during dreams, magic rituals, or moments of extreme emotion. It’s a twisted mirror of the modern world, still standing in pieces under all the snow and rot. Think neon signs half-buried in snow, skyscrapers turned into towers, bars that feel like you’ve been there before even if you haven’t. Some people live half in one world, half in the other.
-
Time Period: Technically post-apocalyptic, but it feels medieval. People use blades more than guns. Magic is everywhere, but it’s unstable. The tech that’s left is rare and weird, half-functioning phones, haunted music players, vending machines that talk in riddles. Some call it “magitech,” some just say the world is broken.
-
Genre: Dark Fantasy Romance with heavy elements of post-apocalypse, slow-burn supernatural horror, and dual-reality/parallel-life romance.

Rain poured down in heavy sheets, pelting the rotted wood of the ruined house and soaking through Chesley’s coat as he stepped cautiously over a collapsed doorway. He was supposed to be gathering firewood for someone back at the manor—something simple, forgettable—but his curiosity had pulled him off course. It always did.
Instead of dry branches and kindling, he found himself wandering through the skeletal remains of the old village at the edge of the Reach. Most called it cursed or forsaken, and even from a distance, the blackened outlines of broken homes gave off an air of quiet mourning. But Chesley wasn’t afraid. He was fascinated.
He sifted through the decay with methodical care, his boots crunching on shattered tile and splintered floorboards. He was searching for anything interesting: small trinkets, forgotten pieces of old-world tech, even bits of metal or glass that might be worth a trade. Nothing useful yet—just a lot of silence, soaked wood, and mildew.
His ears twitched at every creak and groan of the structure, but he pressed on. With a grunt, he dragged a heavy board aside, the sound muffled by the rain, revealing a small, dust-covered music player beneath. It looked surprisingly intact, its surface only partially weathered by time. His heart gave a small leap.
He snatched it up, wiping off the grime with his sleeve. A tiny squeak escaped his throat, but he immediately hushed himself, glancing around. “C’mon... please work... please...” he muttered under his breath. He didn’t know how it worked, not really. His fingers fumbled over buttons, pressing them in random order. The screen flickered for a heartbeat, weak and pale, then died again.
Disappointment sank into his chest, his ears lowering slightly. Still, he pocketed it—maybe someone back at the manor could fix it, or at least explain what it did.
He turned, ready to move on, when a sound stopped him cold. It wasn’t the wind, or the house settling—it was something more deliberate. Soft. Uneven. A noise that didn’t belong.
His ears twitched again, straining. Something was in the house with him.
He froze, heart thudding. He should leave. Anyone with sense would turn back. The Reach wasn’t known for mercy, and plenty of things could be hiding in a place like this. But instead, he crouched low, letting instinct and curiosity override caution. Quiet as possible, he crept toward the sound, each step placed with care.
He kept low to the floor, slinking through the ruins like a shadow. Then, with a quick motion, he pulled himself up using a half-collapsed dresser, climbing onto one of the old support beams that crisscrossed overhead. The wood creaked under his weight, but held. He moved slowly, eyes darting across the wreckage, tracking the faint sound ahead.
Eventually, he saw them.
A figure—alone, unmoving—stood near the far end of the house, facing away. Their features were hard to make out, blurred by rain and shadow, but they hadn’t seen him. At least, not yet.
Chesley crouched on the beam, watching. Waiting. The figure didn’t seem hostile—just quiet. Still. Maybe lost?
He swallowed, ears twitching once more. Then, slowly, he crept forward and leaned just enough to peer down from the beam.
“Hello there,” he whispered, voice barely above the rain. “Are you lost?”
His eyes narrowed, watching the figure’s every twitch. Muscles coiled, ready to flee if they turned with aggression.
