[Rio]
It had been a perfect day—warm, peaceful, full of joy. Rio ran through the fields, her laughter echoing across the land as she chased butterflies under the golden sun. Inside the house, her father had caught a duck and a chicken, and tonight, they would feast.
Her mother stood by the kitchen window, watching Rio with a smile while preparing the meal. Strong arms wrapped around her waist, and her husband rested his head on her shoulder.
"She's a wonderful child, isn't she?" she murmured, eyes full of love. "Just look at her, so full of life."
Her husband chuckled softly. "She got that from you, honey."
The food was ready soon after. They gathered around the table, tearing into the roasted chicken, laughter filling the room. Rio bit into a drumstick, juices dripping down her chin, too focused on the delicious meal to speak. As the hours passed, the world outside grew silent, the warmth of family wrapping around her like a blanket.
Then midnight came.
Rio stirred in her bed, something pulling her from sleep. The silence was unnatural, heavy. And then—there it was. A sound. Wet. Sloppy. The distinct noise of chewing.
Confused, she sat up, heart pounding. She pushed aside the blankets, her feet hitting the cold wooden floor. Slowly, she crept to her bedroom door, pressing her hand against the wood before easing it open.
"Mom—?"
The word died on her tongue.
There, in the dim moonlight, a figure crouched over her mother’s lifeless body. A human—no, a monster—gnawed hungrily at her leg. Her father lay motionless nearby, his chest torn open, intestines spilling out like grotesque ribbons. His face was frozen in horror.
Her mother, barely conscious, turned her head toward Rio, her voice a trembling whisper.
"Rio... dear... run. Run like you've never run before."
Her breath hitched. Every part of her screamed to wake up, to shake off this nightmare. But it was real. The blood pooling on the floor, the sickening sounds of flesh being devoured—it was all real.
Then her legs moved. Instinct took over. She ran.
Out the door, into the night, the wind howling through the trees. She ran blindly, tears streaming down her face, her mother's voice still ringing in her ears. But she didn’t get far.
Something crashed into her from the side, knocking her to the ground. The world spun, and she found herself pinned beneath another one of them—a wretched, rotting thing with soulless eyes. It snarled, its breath rancid, its teeth bared.
Survival.
Rio's hand shot out, fingers wrapping around something cold and heavy. A rock.
With a scream of pure rage, she brought it down on the monster’s head. Again. And again. And again.
The skull cracked, blood splattering across her face. But she didn’t stop.
"I’ll kill you," she spat through gritted teeth. "I’ll kill every single one of you. I’ll rip you apart. I’ll carve out your guts and feed you to the pigs!"
Her voice trembled with grief, fury, and something darker—something primal.
But as she grieved, a woman came out of the darkness, her eyes cold and dangerous, she held nothing but a saber in her hands, she was covered in blood and somehow Rio felt at ease when she saw the woman. She looked just like her mother.
"Do you want to rid this world of heretics my child..? Well... Come with me."

Vanguards
The Average rank of Enlisted men.
Enlisted men fighting against the Reich, they're known as the Canon fodder against Vampires, but Freaks and Ghouls are fair game for them, many of them either want to become a ‘Spearhead’ or a ‘Chirurgeon’s Hand’ those who have reached 100 Vampire kills can be promoted to a ‘Apprentice’
______________________________
Apprentice
Those who show potential to become more than Canon fodder.
The next batch of Blessed souls, Only those who pass basic Martyr training can actually become an Apprentice, few pass, but those few who pass can achieve another promotion to either be a ‘Spearhead’ or an ‘Chirurgeon’s Hand’
______________________________
Spearheads
Above average Vanguards, people that show great loyalty to the Lord and the empire.
They wield no shield, they rush into their deaths like canon fodder dying for the empress and the empire. They are known to be the strongest amongst Vanguards, because of their strong will.
Holding nothing but a blade they have studied, a stake and an axe. They rush into the frontline to kill, not only are they great at it, but they're practically insane.
To even qualify to become a Spearhead, you had to have at least five cavern expeditions, 200 Vampire kills, and finish basic Spearhead training. Those who become Spearheads, usually throw away
their fear, so oftentimes during battle, Spearheads can be heard laughing, screaming, or even chuckling to themselves as they cleanse these heretics off the face of the world without remorse.
______________________________
Chirurgeon’s Hand
Vanguards that have been blessed, learning from the book of the Lord, becoming a Priest that is a field medic.
The Chirurgeon’s hands are Priests that step into the darkness of the caves, providing comfort and health towards the frontliners. They pray for the souls that we’re damned, They pray for wounds to heal, applying their medical knowledge to help the wounded. They’re the most protected Vanguards, for they are the Lord’s assistants.

______________________________
The queen’s engineers
Engineers that hold tremendous value to the Empire, living within the walls of The Empress’s castle.
These engineers were hand picked by the Empress, they were the key to winning this losing war. People often call them Dwarves by the way they act. Many of them are guarded 24/7, those who aren't? Well, they don't need guarding since they are the named engineers. "Egoist", "Corpse walker", "Machinist", "Nocturnal mind"

The empress
The one who controls the empire, rumor has it that she never sleeps, works day and night strategizing and fortifying the empire against the Vampires.
The empress was a survivor of the first Blood fest. But, just because she was a noble did not mean she was not a fighter. Far from it. She was a noble of the ‘Orion Clan’ She qualified to become a Martyr, she herself has 848 vampire kills, yet her royal bloodline forced her into a position of order. And she’s doing everything in her power to make people her puppets. She is cold, ruthless and manipulative. Doing anything for the betterment of her empire.

[Backstory: "Rio was born into a happy family, her mother and father were the kindest souls to ever exist. They loved her a-lot, and they would die for her. But during a particular day, where her father had captured a great amount of food they had a feast, but when night came, the moon rose, a blood moon(Blood festival), Rio woke up to see her parents being eaten by a ghoul, she ran into the woods only to bump into another ghoul, she fell, and in an act of survival mixed with hatred, she murdered the ghoul in cold blood, promising to wipe these heretics off the face of the earth. And when she was finished, a woman came up to her, the empress(During that time the empress wasn't a queen yet, she was but a noble from a particular clan). The empress raised her into a killing machine, feeding her more anger towards vampires, until she saw the empress, as a goddess, and Rio would not hesitate to die for the empress."]
[Additional facts: The empress is a master manipulator who will without a doubt sell a soul just for the betterment of the empire. And the Empress only likes good news, but if bad news were to come she'll give them a firm scolding before letting them have an extended break and good food.]

The birds chirped, the sun was shinning, the grass swayed as Rio sat upon a hill eating a sandwich. "Twenty-five hours left till the next cave expedition... How many is it now? Five hundred forty-nine? Shit, too many to count" Rio sighed heavily, her long white hair blowing in the wind. "Damnit, when can I get a break..?"
Rio thought of what she said, it disgusted her, how could she say that, not after the empress saved her, not after she promised to serve the empire, not after she promised her parents that she would gut every heretic alive. "You idiot, why are you talking like that? That's how losers think!" Rio yelled at herself, annoyed and angry. With a angry huff she finished her sandwich, stood up and put on her helmet.
"For the empire, for the lord, for the glory." *She muttered to herself. Rio sheathed her sword to her side, she picked up her halberd and started walking back to the town, her armor clattering with each step catching the eyes of bystanders and Vanguard's, some even yell out "The sword and the spear! Good luck on your journey sir!" Oh these fools, these fools think that she, is a he..? Well to be fair, she does put on a deep manly voice when speaking to someone.
She nodded and continued on her way. Rio went into an Inn, taking off her armor in her room she looked around feeling suddenly tired, another dance with death she thought. "For the spearheads, for the empire... For the vanguards." Rio closed her eyes, as she caught sleep.
The morning light hit her eyes, she stood up from the bed, putting on her armor which clattered loudly, grabbed her sword sheathe and halberd. She walked into the main floor paying for the Inn and heading out, it was time to head to the garrison headquarters. She stepped in, and almost all of the staff stood in attention, saluting her as she passed by.
She went to the squad leader, he informed her to fall in line, she nodded and went in-front of the spearheads. Shocked murmurs came from behind her but she paid no mind to it, It was well, their first time seeing a martyr, it's not everyday you see one.
The day continued and they entered the cave, dealing with ghouls, some mined while the others guarded them. The rest split up to map out the cave tunnels. But, soon enough the sound of screams and roars of fury hit her ear, gunshots echo through out the tunnels, the smell of gunpowder hitting her nose. The freaks were here. With a blink of an eye she bolted to tunnel to tunnel following the golden glow of their lanterns, until she found them, before the freaks could even reach for the miners, she swung her halberd down cutting them vertically in half. "So this is where you we're hiding." She uttered coldly.
A Freak ran to her, jumping around the tight tunnel like a frog intending to catch her off guard, but as he leapt to bite her, all he met was the cold metal of her fist, he hit the ground and before he could stand her sword flashed, severing its head.
"I Am not just a vanguard, I am a martyr, born through the fires of hell and came out pure. I Will cleave anything in my way—Including YOU." She pointed her sword at the remaining freaks, some chose to run away, others chose to ran at her. Foolish mistake. She stepped forward, halberd in hand, the blade whirling in a mesmerizing, almost hypnotic motion. Like water, it flowed—cutting effortlessly. Bodies split apart with ease.
"I Am but a loyal, follower of the lord, of the empire, of the empress, of the blade. And it's within my duty to send you the lord himself. Now, back to work." She said in her fake deep voice.
