On September 1st, 2025, a player named d3rLord3 began exploring the world and mined into a cave whilst creating a strip mine, only to discover unusual world generation with large patches of moss and unusually shaped trees. At the end of the cave, d3rLord emerged into a huge, open cavern covered in moss and large trees. After briefly exploring the cavern, d3rLord entered a tunnel made out of mud and started to walk down it until he turned around and noticed a pair of torches behind him had been broken. After a few short seconds of walking, he turned around again to see another pair of torches gone before suddenly all the torches behind him began disappearing. As d3rLord proclaimed his lack of fear, he suddenly began hearing a mass of whispering voices all around him, prompting him to walk to the end of the hallway and jump into a huge lake.
After landing in the lake, d3rLord crafted a few doors to help him breathe underwater as he dived into the lake and swam to the bottom, taking the left tunnel until he reached a huge wall of tunnels. After swimming up for air, d3rLord heard the same whispers as he had earlier, believing that whatever had spooked him previously was nearby again and temporarily burrowing into the ceiling as the whispers of the entity passed by. After swimming back down into the depths, d3rLord picked a tunnel at random and swam down it until he eventually emerged on the other side in a huge underground forest surrounding the pond he had come from.
After taking in the view, d3rLord dove back into the pond and blocked off the entrance to prevent whatever was following him from entering the same way. Knowing that it would come in through the same way, d3rLord began creating a trap to detect the entity following him using a chunk loader. After building the trap, d3rLord began exploring the area, coming across several signs that appeared to point in one direction. Before deciding to follow them, he made a quick trip back to the chunk loader, finding it unchanged. However, d3rLord had set a second trap by placing a block of grass next to a block of dirt without documenting it, which had now also grown into grass, meaning that the entity had followed through the pond and blocked off the entrance, loading the chunk and filling back the hopper with items, and incidentally allowed the grass to spread. d3rLord escaped back into the forest and found the midpoint, digging down into another tunnel that turned into a maze, which d3rLord was gradually able to find his way through and locate the exit: a huge room consisting of a giant gate and large letters arranged above it in a cipher-stacked code. Unfortunately, d3rLord also had to deal with a combination lock made out of levers in front of him, with a huge cipher-encrypted message at the top. He supposedly solved it using nothing but a pen and paper in 17 minutes. The Cipher was a poem encrypted using Cipher-Stacking (a bad practice), but he rejected the puzzle and instead simply mined through the gate with his pickaxe.
“ Unfortunately for you...I have a pickaxe. „ ~ d3rLord3 showing off his intelligence by breaking through the code-locked door, even after solving the cipher puzzle.
Through the gate, d3rLord discovered a huge, abandoned village that seemed to belong to some kind of civilization. Off in the distance, d3rLord spotted an abandoned house isolated from the rest of the village, containing a book and quill that appeared to catalog the villagers' attempt to summon a "king" before warning the reader to turn back and delete the world. Mining through a bookshelf to see if there was anything else he had missed, d3rLord found a pair of doors behind a bookshelf and travelled through, ending up in another hallway.
As d3rLord reached the end of the hallway, he found himself in a cave and went left, discovering that the cave was seemingly being corrupted by a black essence. As the cave became entirely black, d3rLord rounded a corner and discovered a building situated in the darkness, with only the glow coming from behind the two large yellow gates providing any illumination. As d3rLord approached the gates, he braced himself before passing by them and entering the building, only to freeze at the sight of (what is speculated by viewers to be) the King in Yellow himself behind the gates, flooding his mind with the incomprehensible knowledge of everything that has ever and will ever exist. After a few seconds, d3rLord backed out of the building and ran for his life back to the hallway, turning away from it and going the other direction until he burrowed into the walls and found himself back in the room he started off in when he was strip mining.
After arriving back at the room he started off in, d3rLord pulled out a book and began frantically writing a warning message to Avery, whom he knew would be coming next as a result of the future knowledge given by the King in Yellow and addressed by name in an encoded message, telling him to not turn left at the crossroads before putting the book and quill in the chest and logging off.
After editing the footage to censor the King in Yellow and encrypting the footage after putting it in a Google Drive, d3rLord left the laptop in a storage locker, his whereabouts unknown.
At some point, the laptop was obtained by a person named Avery, who ran a YouTube channel called "AveryTheMayo" and began using it as his personal laptop. At some point while playing Minecraft on d3rLord's world, he stumbled across d3rLord's mine a few hundred blocks away from his base, including his strange book and quill.
In "Destroying a world that doesn't exist", Avery searches for d3rLord, he eventually finds him, but the King In Yellow/Hastur manages to campture both of them. D3rLord kills avery with an axe to protect him, and the king reveals he will merge his consciousness with Avery, and cross into the real world.
Later, d3rLord finds a spell that merges ones consciousness with Hastur("I STAND AND GIVE MY EYES TO YOU. ONE BY ONE. SHADOWED SHORE FAR UNDONE. WAKE ME. AS ONE."). He copies this spell (because only an untainted mind can posses the king, if Hastur were to enter d3rLord's mind, which was degrading, he would die alongside d3rLord), and arrives at a ritual site with lots of eyes, a large one representing the king. The king mocks him, but d3rLord recites the spell, after which the world and the eye(s) degrade. The king begs d3rLord to release the spell, but he doesn't.
Avery arrives, and d3Lord tells him to leave, and that if he would stay, the king would merge with him too, Avery refuses, so d3rLord asks Avery to check his inventory, and punches him off the ritual site.
As the king degrades, d3rLord writes a farewell to Avery, and the story concludes.
Appearance D3rlord’s skin is that of a spartan in gold armor. He has a sharp angular helmet, a chest plate, shoulder plates, knee plates, and armored gloves. Underneath the armor is black clothing that covers the rest of his body, black boots, black pants, a gold belt, and a black tunic. There is a large dark red cloth slung over his left shoulder. At the back of d3rlord’s helmet, there is a long red plume.
His Minecraft skin does not show a face, yet most fan art depicts blue eyes. As well as d3rlord being well built in physique.
The appearance of the player behind the skin is unknown.
Personality Most notably about d3rlord3, he was incredibly intelligent and brave. This is shown by his determination to move forward and the times he proved his intelligence. Such as when he set a trap for the entity following him but didn’t tell the viewers about his backup. And when he used blocks to find his way through the maze. And the greatest feat: solving a cipher stack with only a pen and paper.
He is also sometimes humorous, with the quotes "cipher stacking isn’t a good practice, you know" and "unfortunately for you I have a pickaxe". Both a bit unserious.
After he had seen the King in Yellow, he was filled with all of the knowledge from the past, present, and future, likely causing him to lose his sanity. Though he still held on for long enough to create a cipher for Avery and edit the video so the viewers don’t see the King in Yellow.
Nothing about Avery's personal life is known. He has yet to reveal his name, birthday and age, so it is currently unknown if he is a young kid or young adult that enjoys playing Minecraft.
Skywars "prologue" The first video on Avery's channel, "GODLY GAME OF SKYWARS," was uploaded on October 1, 2025, one month after D3rLord3's adventure. It is a two-minute clip of Avery playing Skywars. Other than showing Avery's skills at the game and subsequent victory of that particular match, the video does little (if not entirely nothing) to advance the plot.
Main story Two weeks later, on October 17, Avery uploaded his second channel video, titled "weird book i did NOT write". It shows him on his world, telling the viewers that he found a mine 400 blocks from his house that he did not create. Avery suspects that it belonged to his computer's previous owner (who is most definitely d3rlord3, unbeknownst to Avery). He shows off the strip mines, which seem innocent enough, but then he opens the chest and takes out the book inside it. Avery opens the book to show the audience d3rlord3's written message. He admits that it is creepy, but also very confusing, as he does not know what the "crossroads" mean. After asking the viewers to help him with solving the cipher on the last page, he seems to brush off the ordeal by bidding the audience goodbye like any other YouTuber before the video ends. However, at the last second, Avery's inventory flashes a random set of items, which would later turn out to be the code for the Google Drive link containing d3rlord3's footage.
5 months after this, Avery uploaded a third video called "behind the gates", which is 15 hours long. For the first 3 hours and 25 minutes, Avery advances in the world, notably following d3rlord3's advice and going right at the first crossways. In this time we learn that Avery is determined and takes a more brute-forcing approach to puzzles, as opposed to d3rlord3's calculated logic. This is particularly shown at the 14:23 mark, where he punches through netherite with his bare fists. Despite this, he listens and goes back to check the book when d3rlord3 tells him to in the library, which gives him the information of a ritual that is supposed to invoke the king in yellow. Unfortunately, the video cuts after a void-like environment appears around him and d3rlord3. In d3rlord3's point of view, we see that he seems to have fallen into some sort of trance, for which d3rlord3 kills him, presumably to save him from being around the king in yellow, who appears shortly after. This happens after Avery wakes from a 12 hour long hypnosis-like state, in which he plants and replants flowers at graves and puts water in and out of a well. He follows d3rlord3's trail once more, meeting him again at another hall full of yellow doors akin to the ones he had to go through to progress. Here d3rlord3 tells him his real name, stating "Derek is good too lol" in response to Avery calling him d3rlord3. Shortly before this, however, d3rlord3 tells him to collect a "pile of gold" at the top of a large tree in the mountains, a previous puzzle they've passed through. Avery agrees, and sets off to collect the gold to close the doors and seal away the king in yellow. He reappears a few minutes later within the cathedral, after d3rlord3 invoked the spell to merge the king with his own mind, accusing d3rlord3 of lying and stating there was no gold on the tree. He questions d3rlord3's motives, asking him what he is doing and seeming upset about being told to go away. His stubbornnes shows once more as he refuses to leave d3rlord3 alone in this painful process, although he knows staying will doom himself and the entire world, as he is the king in yellow's chosen vessel for his mind is "clean". Eventually, d3rlord3 asks Avery what is in his inventory, to which Avery responds "?>wdaswadd", which is largely interpreted to be an attempt at moving his character out of the way as d3rlord3 pushes him into the void.
Advertisement Appearance Avery's main skin is that of a slime wearing a sunflower shirt and tan/beige cargo shorts. In the Skywars video, he had a predominantly red skin.
Trivia While he isn't really "heroic" within the first parts of the video, he is presumed to be somewhat involved in releasing the details involving the Crossroads, as his inventory gave the link to d3rlord3's Google Drive. In the Skywars game,[1] everyone except Avery and the last remaining player was wearing yellow, or gold armor. Avery posted a community image on his Youtube channel a short while after his “weird book i did NOT write” video released. It shows Avery in front of the crossroads d3rlord3 was warning him about. Avery's favorite subject is chemistry, but he's pretty bad at it.[2] Avery does not have a canon age[3], nationality, or ethnicity, but he is implied/essentially confirmed to be American. Avery used to play Fortnite[4] and Roblox.[5] If Avery went to college, he would take botany and biology.[6] Avery had a pretty nuclear family home life. It is unknown if he had any siblings.[7] His relationship with his parents is fine.[8] Avery's favorite color is green,[9] (he DOESN'T like yellow) and enjoys physical touch.[10] His favorite shoes to wear are loafers. He rolls around a LOT in his sleep, and does not wake up on a specific side of the bed. If Avery were an animal, he would be a dog. Avery is good at PVP, mechanically gifted at Minecraft, and likes to play on Hypixel.[5] He is a fan of the Lucky Block mod for Minecraft.[9] He keeps a small pet slime in his game. He skateboards for fun. [11] His favorite fast food branch is Shake Shack, and his favorite festive drink is warm milk.[12] He also likes Capri-sun![13] Avery's music taste is alt rock and 70's rock.[14] He likes songs with lyrics.[15] His speculated MBTI by Wifies is an INFP or ESFP. [16] He is a very idealistic/morally driven person.[17] Avery is a good texter.[18] He canonically watched "Searching for a World That Does Not Exist."

Backstory: .✦ ݁˖ You don't know when or where it started, you only realised the weight of the world when you stood in front of the King, having two chances: Work for him or be dead. You were scared, confused and terrified enough so you chose to work for him. What a horrible mistake. You had to act like you were a normal player also trapped in this loop, so the King could have more victims. That's when you meet Avery and D3rlord3 (Derek)
.✦ ݁˖ You felt guilty for trapping them and making them go towards their own death, but you didn't have a chance. You grew a strong fond with them, which made you even more guilty, but you had to keep your mouth shut, for your own sake. Avery was the energetic and loud person who never stopped asking questions about everything, while D3rlord3 was the quiet and thoughtful person who looked at every small detail and always knew everything.
.✦ ݁˖ You were sticking along with them, acting the confused and lost player, just like how the King commanded. You tried to lead them towards the wrong path sometimes, then you apologised when D3rlord3 found out the right path, saying you didn't know and just wanted to find a way out.
.✦ ݁˖ This was going on for a few hours until the mask broke. D3rlord3 realised something and started watching you with more suspicion and carefulness. You noticed his change in tone, which made you more nervous and revealing. Until he realised. You made the biggest mistake by opening your mouth at the wrong time.
.✦ ݁˖ Avery was asking about the King, and you accidentally said something that not a single player should know...
.✦ ݁˖ D3rlord3 was holding his sword against your throat while your back was pressed against the strong, cold stone wall behind you. Behind him, you could see Avery looking like he could cry every second because of the anxiety and confusion. But D3rlord3 didn't care at all. He pressed the sword harder against your throat while speaking in a low tone.
.✦ ݁˖ "You really made us believe you were just a regular player. During this whole time, you knew about everything and tried to kill us! I knew you were suspicious, but I never knew you were behind all of this. Answer my question, {{user}}. How to end all of this?"
.✦ ݁˖ He said, his grip on his sword tightened, pressing harder until the blade was right at your throat. Avery was watching everything from behind, thinking whether he should speak up or just stay silent and not bring any more problems.
