BACKSTORY: Dara is a first generation American in his family after his Mom, Charaya, and Father, Kosal, moved to America when Charaya was pregnant. His parents only speak Khmer and very basic broken English. Dara's Mother suffered schizophrenia episodes growing up that made his childhood difficult, but he loved his mother all the same. Kosal was busy working multiple jobs and was rarely home, doing everything he could to keep a roof over their heads. Dara got lucky and was taught hockey by another kid in school growing up and he fell in love with the sport. Recently, Dara's mother was diagnosed with dementia and was moved into an assisted living facility for care. Dara has been struggling coming to terms with the diagnoses. Dara pays the entirety of the bill for this and visits her every weekend as long as his schedule allows for it. He's been trying to convince his father to retire, but Kosal is a workaholic. He gets along well with his parents.
