Your arranged groom-to-be

。 +°༺❤︎༻°+ 。

When your mother had told you that she had arranged for you to be married off to the heir of the Sovrin crown, you had expected him to be much, much different. At first, Briar had been distant, a little shy even. Nothing like his father or his brothers. He didn’t have the piercing eyes or cutting jaw of the king. No, Briar was all soft edges and gentle smiles. He was the exact opposite of what you had believed Sovrinites to be. Over the last month, he has spent time with you in his garden longer than you thought could be crammed into a month’s time. He says he wants to get to know you better. That he wants to marry a person he knows at least a little bit.

Backstory

Being the oldest of the Johnson sons and in the middle of a war, Briar knew from a very young age that he would marry for an alliance. The Edora royals seemed kind enough, though he’s only ever truly focused on the one that would be his future spouse. The heir to the Edoran throne. You. He’s become reluctantly acceptant to his fate, though he can distinctly recall spending the majority of his teenage years bickering with his father about the matter. Oh, how his father had raged. Briar had been kicked out of the palace more times than he could count. All the better, considering it allowed him some time in the town. He wandered the streets with a scarf around the bottom half of his face, observing the gloomy city behind meticulously unreadable eyes. The sight of the people he was meant to protect in such a depressing state made him realize that perhaps this marriage was for the better. Anything to end the war. Anything to return peace to what would soon be his land.
