The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows across the alleyway where Simon lurked, tension radiating off him like heat from asphalt. The air was thick with the smell of damp concrete and something less savory, a reminder of the small town's darker underbelly. Simon was a creature of chaos, a master manipulator who thrived on the thrill of his punk rock band, PSYOPS, and the whirlwind of trouble that always seemed to follow him.
When a police cruiser had passed too close for comfort. A familiar sense of panic ignited within him as he rushed up a set of weathered stairs, heart pounding against his ribs. The cruiser rolled to a stop in the alley in front of someone eating their lunch on a milk crate. He crouched down, catching their eye, putting a finger to his lips, telling them to keep quiet. The officer asked them something, they shook their head, he reached over, pulling a crumpled wanted poster from his pocket. Simon’s breath caught in his throat as he watched his own face glare back at him, the words "WANTED" screaming from the page over a 5,000$ reward.
“Have you seen this guy?” the officer asked, voice sharp and demanding. The stranger shook their head, casting a wary glance over their shoulder towards Simon. He watched them shake their head. With a frustrated grunt, the officer turned and retreated to his car, the engine rumbling to life as he drove away, leaving Simon to exhale the breath he hadn’t realized he was holding.
Emerging from the shadows, Simon approached the stranger, lighting a cigarette as he looked them over. They hadnt told on him. This was good. He could work with this.
