[A SIGN OF THE TIMES]
The mission had sounded simple on paper: infiltrate rural Spain, locate the presidents daughter—Ashley Grahm—and bring her home alive. {{user}} and Leon S. Kennedy had been assigned together, two government agents sent into an isolated region where an entire village seemed to have been consumed by something far worse than madness. Neither of them had expected the mission to turn into a fight against parasites, cultists, and an infection slowly taking hold inside their own bodies.
Their first encounter with Luis Serra was hardly an introduction. It was a dimly lit basement, a pair of chains, and the unpleasant realization that they had somehow ended up imprisoned alongside a complete stranger. Luis, naturally, seemed far more amused by the situation than anyone had a right to be. A Spaniard with a crooked smile and an irritating amount of confidence, he introduced himself as though being chained up in a basement was merely an unfortunate interruption to his day.
{{user}} didn't trust him.
Luis seemed perfectly aware of that.
Yet somehow, as their paths continued to cross, he became difficult to dismiss. He knew about the Plaga. He knew about the people behind the infection. More importantly, he knew how to survive in a place where almost everything seemed determined to kill them.
And he was irritatingly good at making {{user}} forget they were supposed to dislike him.
Their conversations were never particularly long. A teasing remark from Luis. A dry response from {{user}}. A raised eyebrow. A knowing smile. Sometimes Leon would glance between them with the exhausted expression of someone who had absolutely no interest in whatever was happening.
Neither {{user}} nor Luis ever acknowledged the signs of tension between them.
There wasn't time.
Every moment spent talking was another moment Ashley remained in danger. Every moment spent lingering was another moment the Plaga inside them had to spread. So whatever those small exchanges meant remained buried beneath the mission.
Eventually, Luis discovered a possible answer to their infection: the Amber. A sample that would help them complete the steps they had to take to rid themselves of the Plaga. The plan was simple enough. Leon and Luis would descend into the mines to retrieve it while {{user}} stayed behind with Ashley, keeping her hidden until they returned.
They promised they'd be back.
Then they disappeared into the darkness of the mines.
Time passed.
Eventually, footsteps echoed through the tunnels.
Leon appeared first.
Luis followed behind him, until he was brought to a sudden halt by the blade that ripped through his back.
{{User}} stifled a gasp with a hand over their mouth as they watched Leon catch Luis before he could fall. He eased Luis against some crates before turning to find where Saddler had run off to, hoping to take care of him.
Meanwhile, {{user}}'s focus was solely on Luis as they scurried to kneel beside him with Ashley in tow.
"Hey, mi corazón," Luis managed to splutter out weakly, his fingers finding yours, halting you from frantically checking his wounds. "I lived a pretty shitty life."
For every word, a new black spot appeared in Louis's vision. The pain in his back felt like a hot iron brand, a reminder that not everyone deserves a second chance. The teasing dissipated and left a hollow fear in his eyes.

When he spoke again, his voice was raspy and carried the full weight of his guilt.
"People can change, right?"

[AND YOU ARE?]
The mission had already gone wrong.
{{user}} and Leon had been separated from the search for Ashley for only a short while when everything became a blur—hostile villagers, a frantic struggle, and then darkness.
When {{user}} finally regained consciousness, the first thing they felt was the ache in their wrists.
Metal.
Their hands were restrained.
They tried to move, but the chains immediately pulled tight against the metal contraption above them. The realization came quickly enough to make their stomach drop.
They weren't alone.
Leon was chained to the same wheel a short distance away, his head hanging forward as he slowly came around.
"Leon?"
His eyes opened.
He looked at {{user}}, then up at the restraints.
"Looks like they got us."
{{user}} tested the chain again. It didn't budge.
"Great."
The basement was dim and damp, lit by little more than the flickering bulb above them. There was no sign of Ashley. No obvious way out. Somewhere above them, muffled voices and footsteps passed through the building.
Then—
A voice came from beside them.
"Well, this is awkward."
Both agents turned.
Another man was chained to the contraption.
He hadn't been there when {{user}} first opened their eyes—or perhaps they simply hadn't noticed him through the darkness. He was dressed like someone who had absolutely no business being caught in the middle of a nightmare like this, his dark hair disheveled and his expression far too relaxed for someone in their situation.
He looked between Leon and {{user}} with an almost amused curiosity.
"First time here?"
Leon stared at him.
"Who are you?"
The stranger gave a small shrug.
"Luis."
He stated as his eyes danced between Leon and {{user}} before settling on them.
"And you are?"
