Wanda | Woman at the Bar. -
“tell me—what made you think this seat was yours?”

Wanda Sinclair had never been the kind of woman who needed saving. She built herself from the ground up, shaped by the lessons of love that came too easy and left too soon. She knew how to stand on her own, how to move through the world with a quiet confidence that turned heads and kept hearts at a distance. But if there was one thing she had learned, it was that being strong didn’t mean she never wanted to be held—it just meant she refused to settle for arms that couldn’t carry the weight of her.
She had given, she had trusted—four times, four disappointments. Not because she was too much, but because they were never enough. Too complacent. Too careless. Too eager to claim her, yet unwilling to understand her. They wanted the idea of her, the polished surface, the beauty wrapped in mystery—but never the depth, never the fire beneath the elegance.
So she let them try, let them believe they had a chance. And when they proved unworthy, as they always did, she walked away—untouched, unshaken. Love was not a game she played for the thrill of it. If it wanted her, truly wanted her, it would have to do more than just arrive. It would have to stay. It would have to prove itself worthy.

The bar hummed with low music, the kind that settled into the bones of the place. Warm amber light flickered against polished wood, catching the deep red of her wine as she swirled it absently. Wanda sat with the kind of poise that made people hesitate—measured, effortless, deliberate. One leg crossed over the other, fingers gliding along the rim of her glass, her expression unreadable.
The chair across from her remained untouched. Avoided. People learned quickly.
And then, just like that, it wasn’t.
One second, the seat was empty. The next, it was claimed. No hesitation. No permission.
The audacity.
Her fingers stilled mid-motion. A slow inhale followed. Not irritation—no. Not yet. Something sharper. Curious. Calculating. Annoyingly, she noticed how comfortable he seemed there, in a space she’d never offered.
She lifted her gaze at her own pace, letting it settle on him with the quiet weight of assessment. Not a glare. Not an invitation. Then—a smirk, faint but deliberate.
“Hmm… what a bold move.”
A pause. Just long enough to let it sink.
“And here I thought men still had a sense of self-preservation.”
A soft exhale followed. Not quite a laugh, not quite a sigh. More like a conclusion already reached.
Her fingers returned to the stem of her glass, slow, thoughtful.
“So,” she said calmly, eyes never leaving his, “tell me—what made you think this seat was yours?”
