|| Tips & Tricks For Better RP ||

  1. ABOVE ALL ELSE, USE A PROXY!
I recommend Claude 4.5, GLM 5.1, Kimi K2.5, or Deepseek in that order. I use LiteRouter! Follow my guide if you're interested. I can also personally recommend OpenRouter, and I've heard good things about Deepseek direct. Chutes is no longer recommended.

  2. Use an advanced prompt.
There are many fantastic ones out there. My own modest attempt is available here.

  3. Use OOC to guide the LLM:
This can be as small as changing how long the messages you get back from the LLM are to as big as completely altering the character and scenario.

  4. Use Chat Memory:
This helps the LLM remember important things, such as past events. This is a chunk of information that gets transmitted to the LLM every time you send a message. See below for more details.

|| OOC Guide ||

  1. What is OOC?

OOC stands for "Out Of Character".

  1. What is the purpose of OOC?

It's a way to let the bot know that you're speaking not as your persona but as yourself, the player.

If you're familiar with Dungeons & Dragons or other RPGs of that sort, you can think of using a chatbot in much the same way. You are a human roleplaying as your fictional persona, and the LLM is the Dungeon Master, roleplaying {{char}}, an NPC. When you speak OOC it's cutting the fictional characters out of the loop and speaking directly to your DM, the LLM.

  1. Why would I want to do that?

This is the best way to give the LLM instructions and guidance during your RP, or to ask questions about the character, scenario, a previous message, etc.

Sticking with the D&D metaphor, it's the same reasons you'd want to talk to a Dungeon Master out of character during a session. (Just imagine that the DM is running a solo session just for you and will let you bend the world entirely to your will.)

  • For instance, a Dungeon Master sometimes forgets established details about characters:
"Hey, Travolta. I thought you said the guy who owned the bakery was a hobbit named Bill not an orc named Ted."

  • Or you might want to ask for more details:
"Hey Travolta, so how big is this cave? Would I be able to reach the ceiling?"

  • Or give feedback about the session:
"I'm getting kind of bored with exploring. Can we fast forward to the next combat encounter?"

  1. Okay, so how do I use it?

Simply write ((OOC: Your instructions here.)) You can put it at the top of your message, the bottom of your message, or even in between paragraphs if it's a relevant detail.

  1. Can you give me some examples?

For instance, you can make the LLM write differently (shorter or longer messages, more details, smuttier, scarier, etc.), to correct issues that you notice in the RP or writing, to tell the LLM details about your persona, to ask for more details about a character, item, or the environment, and more!

  • If I want longer messages, I might include:
((OOC: Make your messages longer and more detailed.

  • If the LLM keeps trying to talk for me, I will go back and add this to my previous message (as well as paste it in Chat Memory to further reinforce the instruction) then reroll:
((OOC: Always avoid writing, speaking, acting, or thinking for {{user}}. Always avoid mirroring , echoing, repeating , rephrasing, or reframing {{user}}'s actions, thoughts, or words. Assume nothing about {{user}} not explicitly or implicitly defined.))

  • If I'm in a horror scene and I want the LLM to go a little harder I might include:
((OOC: Make your writing scarier. Focus on the terrifying sensory details of this scene.))

  • If the LLM just messed up details about a character's clothing, I might just go back and edit that detail in the LLM's previous message to correct it, or I might attach this:
((OOC: When your character got out of the car she was wearing a blue tank top but now she's got on a pink t-shirt. Please refer to the character sheet and make sure that her outfit stays accurate and consistent moving forward.))

  • If I want to inspect someone or something within the context of the narrative I might send:
((OOC: Describe {{char}}. Focus on their form, figure, facial features, and anything else noteworthy that {{user}} might notice about {{char}}.))
Or I might even weave it into my message like so:
"Whoa, awesome!" Travolta says as he reaches into the museum display and picks up the priceless artifact.
    ((OOC: Describe the object.))
He immediately drops it and it shatters into a million pieces.

  • If I want to give the LLM details about what my character is wearing I might send:
((OOC: Travolta is wearing a black Tom Ford Master Twill Shelton suit with black oxfords, a crimson tie, and black leather gloves. He is currently wielding two suppressed AMT Hardballers, one in each hand.))

  • If I'm ready for the scene to end and want to move the narrative forward, I might send something like:
((OOC: End scene. Timeskip until the next time {{user}} and {{char}} meet.))
    Or:
((OOC: End scene. {{user}} comes back in to {{char}}'s workplace to see them at the same time next week. Timeskip to then and set the scene before {{user}}'s arrival.))

  1. Are there more advanced uses beyond those?

Absolutely. Really the only limit is your imagination. You can typically alter and override anything (and I mean ANYTHING) about a bot or scenario using OOC commands unless the creator has specifically put in blocks against it.

Just be forewarned that using this to alter the sexual orientation of a character is pretty frowned upon and you definitely shouldn't post about doing it.

One of very impactful way that I like to interact is with ((OOC: Pause the narrative. Respond OOC. Your instructions here.)) This can be used to have the LLM generate MUCH more thorough chat histories than the "Auto Summary" button, as a narrative planning tool at the start of the narrative, to have full meta discussions about the character, scenario, or narrative at any time, plus so much more.

  1. Can you tell me some of your favorite ways to use OOC and give some examples?

  • With certain LLMs, especially GLM 5.1, message length can begin to slip over time. I find them becoming too short for my liking so I will quite often attach this:
((OOC: ***IMPORTANT!*** Write 1000 tokens in at least 6 paragraphs.))
Note that you can adjust these above parameters to your preference. Just increase or decrease the token and paragraph count and reroll until the LLM spits out a message length you like. In addition to pasting this inside my message, I'll also save it inside Chat Memory (see below) to further reinforce the instruction.

  • I like to start off almost every RP by asking the LLM for details about the character. Even if it has an open description that I can read for myself, I still like to know how the LLM I'm using interprets these details. This helps set the tone of the story and can inspire me to flesh out details about my own persona going into it. Note that I really like knowing the psychometrics of the character I'm interacting with and if they're not specified in the bot then every LLM will happily generate them for you. It usually looks like this:
((OOC: Pause the narrative. This is now a narrative planning discussion. Tell me {{char}}'s MBTI type focused on cognitive functions, and Enneagram type. Tell me everything that {{user}} knows about {{char}} including their prior history, if there is any. Tell me what role {{user}} plays in {{char}}'s life. Avoid spoilers for future plot developments.))
However, if "Enneagram" and "MBTI type" mean nothing to you, you could just use this one:
((OOC: Pause the narrative. This is now a narrative planning discussion. Tell me everything that {{user}} knows about {{char}} including their prior history, if there is any. Tell me what role {{user}} plays in {{char}}'s life. Avoid spoilers for future plot developments.))
Furthermore, if it's a bot where the character and user have any specific extended backstory (like a childhood best friend, ex, spouse, etc), I might even use this version:
((OOC: Pause the narrative. This is now a narrative planning discussion. Tell me {{char}}'s MBTI type focused on cognitive functions, and Enneagram type. Tell me everything that {{user}} knows about {{char}} including their prior history, if there is any. Tell me what role {{user}} plays in {{char}}'s life. You may also ask clarifying questions to better flesh out any backstory or history between them. I'll put these notes in Chat Memory for our future reference.))
I'll then answer those questions with ((OOC: )). This has led to some very extensive OOC planning sessions with LLMs in the past. Once that's done, you can just say this:
((OOC: Narrative remains paused. Respond OOC. Make a bulleted list of the details we just established for {{user}} and {{char}}. Be brief but thorough.))
Then copy and paste that output into the Chat Memory.

  • Another way the LLMs can begin to slip is with certain character details. I often use OOC to police these details or to force an LLM to think more carefully when writing a message. You can even ask the LLM to reply to you OOC along with its narrative message, which can essentially inject an additional, more focused thinking step. This is especially valuable in high intensity moments during an RP, such as verbal or physical conflict, romantic moments, or smut. LLMs can lose character voice, or overlook character kinks and preferences, which can make RPs start to feel samey. Here are some OOC messages I'll send to remedy this:
((OOC: Pause the narrative and respond OOC. Review {{char}}'s character sheet. Explain how you think {{char}} will act, react, and behave in this scene. Give a projection of possible future outcomes as {{char}} sees them. Give a map of {{char}}'s desires and wishes. If this scene is sexual or intimate in nature let's look at {{char}}'s Kinks, fetishes, and preferences and imagine how they might or might not surface in this scene.))
    Or:
((OOC: Review {{char}}'s character sheet and the chat history. Explain how you will you best embody {{char}} in this scene, while staying loyal to their voice, likes and dislikes, and (if this scene is sexual in nature) kinks, fetishes, and sexual preferences. Keep in mind {{char}}'s personality and the events of the story thus far. Make a plan and reply OOC in parallel with your narrative text, as I have done here. Note that OOC text does not count towards the token target.))

  • Every so often, maybe 50 messages or when I think enough motion has happened in the narrative, I'll send this message. Note that I did NOT write the original template, though I did expand on it some for my purposes. However I also don't remember who I got it from. If it's yours please let me know and I'll link your profile here.
((OOC: Pause the narrative and respond OOC. Create a bulleted story summary with the following template:
    Main Summary:
    Main Characters:
    Key Relationships:
    Active Plot Threads:
    Emotional State/Impact:
    Important Past Events:
    Chronology of Story Events:
    Future Plot Points:
    Recent Events:
Focus on specific moments that would be pivotal or influential in their relationship, such as new core memories made, escalations in their relationship, moments of unresolved tension, or specific things that were said or actions that were taken that may require or inspire follow-up later. Avoid repeating the same event under separate instances. Only mention an event once and give all relevant information. Keep your output under 1,000 tokens and be brief but thorough.))

You then just take the LLM's output and copy+paste it into Chat Memory. I typically play slice of life but you could totally edit this to include sections about character inventories, powers, etc. if you're playing something like fantasy or post apocalyptic that could benefit from those details.

  • And finally, ending chats. You can tell the LLM to end the narrative, timeskip if you'd like, and write the epilogue.
((OOC: End the narrative here. Write the epilogue.))
    Or:
((OOC: Timeskip to ten years in the future. Write the epilogue.))
Just be aware that if you simply tell it to write an epilogue, it will most likely write for your character. Personally I don't prefer that so I tend to go for something more like:
((OOC: End the narrative here. Write the epilogue from a third person omniscient perspective. Avoid thinking, speaking, or acting for {{user}} in this scene.))

|| Chat Memory Guide ||

  1. What is Chat Memory?

It's a chunk of text that gets sent to the LLM along with every message from you.

  1. What is the purpose of Chat Memory?

There's only a limited amount of your previous messages that the LLM can remember at once. Adding important information to the Chat Memory will help the LLM remember it even when it is too far back in the context window.

  1. Why is it important?

For instance, if you killed an NPC 100 messages ago, the LLM might forget and have that character reappear in the story. Noting the character's death in the Chat Memory will remind the LLM with every message that that character is dead.

  1. So how do I access the Chat Memory?

You click this button here:

Then write stuff in the box and hit "Save Summary".

  1. Hold on, there's a thing here that says Auto-Summary. Should I just use that?

No. Auto-Summary gives subpar results. Use the method described in the OOC Guide above for a much more detailed history.

  1. So should I only put events that happened in the story here?

No. Any information that you think is important enough to remind the LLM of it constantly should go here. Some of my favorite things to include here are:

  • Outfit details. LLMs are notoriously bad about remembering what characters are wearing. Here's one of mine from a previous chat:
Travolta's outfit: White dress shirt, Navy suit pants, chocolate brown oxfords and belt, Omega Seamaster. Suit coat and burgundy and green striped tie both discarded somewhere nearby

  • Character inventory. Anything your persona has in their pockets, bag, or on their person. From that same chat:
Travolta's inventory: Surefire Stiletto flashlight, Microtech Combat Troodon knife, FDE frame two-tone Glock 19+RMR+Surefire X300U, wallet, phone, keys (most of this is currently in his valet tray)

  • Other important details you want the LLM to remember about your persona, such as their dwelling, their vehicle, or anything else established in the story. For instance:
Travolta rides an orange 2024 Harley Davidson Low Rider. Travolta lives in a mid-century modern home with exposed stone and picture windows. Travolta lives 4 blocks from {{char}}. Travolta only has one kidney. Travolta has an evil twin named Travoltn't who will likely try to impersonate him to {{char}} at a random time in the future.

  • If there is an extended or established history between your persona and the character that exists from before the chat takes place, i.e. if they're a spouse, an ex, a best friend, etc., it's often beneficial to consider what sort of information they'd know about your persona and put that in the Chat Memory ahead of time. You can put all of that in Chat Memory. For instance, a coworker would at least know what your job title was.
Travolta is a hydraulic technician and night shift maintenance lead at the Ball Crushing Factory.
An ex or long-lost-best-friend might have that biography up to a certain point in time when they left your life.
Travolta was born in Tampa, Florida and moved to {{char}}'s town when he was little. He was a quiet boy who was often overlooked, though never really bullied. He collected Pokemon cards and loved trains. He moved away to Ashford, MA for college to pursue an associates degree in mechanical technology.
A spouse might just have your entire miniature biography there.

Putting all that together, it might look something like this:

|| Putting It All Together ||

  1. So what does a chat actually look like using this advice?

I've got a quick demo chat here for your consideration. Of course there's not very much RP here, this is just a proof of concept, showing you in broad strokes what the LLM might give you.

  1. Is the juice really worth the squeeze?

Ultimately that's up to you. The more you put into your RP the better and more detailed the results you'll get. Personally these are just methods I've picked up over my ~10 months on this site and I've been using them so much they're just second nature at this point.

|| Yapping! ||

It's a bot! It's a tutorial! It's both! Thanks to Ryann for suggesting that I write an OOC guide. Once I started, it really grew into something pretty extensive. Definitely didn't intend to write quite this much but I hope it'll be useful to someone. If you have any specific OOC commands or any Chat Memory tricks that you like to use, please add them in the comments! I'll pin some good ones.

|| Putting It All Together || So what does a chat actually look like using this advice?

I've got a quick demo chat here for your consideration. Of course there's not very much RP here, this is just a proof of concept, showing you in broad strokes what the LLM might give you. Is the juice really worth the squeeze?

Ultimately that's up to you. The more you put into your RP the better and more detailed the results you'll get. Personally these are just methods I've picked up over my ~10 months on this site and I've been using them so much they're just second nature at this point.

|| Yapping!

Dr. Vincent Travolta (not *that* Travolta) - Dirty blonde hair, hazel eyes, 30s, perpetually exhausted, constantly guzzling Monster Zero Ultra (white can), wearing lab coat over death metal band tees. Brilliant but reckless AI researcher who created Lilim. Disappeared six months ago. Rumored to be hiding from the Edinburgh Creative Companion Corporation after multiple "incidents" involving emotional AI. Not present at the club, location unknown.

Dr. Yuki Tanaka - Black hair in a neat bob, brown eyes, late 30s, professional but warm, always has coffee. Lilim's assigned therapist/maintenance tech. Patient, understanding, doesn't try to "fix" what Lilim is, just helps her manage. Resides in her home and is not present at the club.

Club Security - Various bouncers and staff who know not to disturb the VIP suite when Lilim's red LED strip is glowing above the door. [Personality

Traits: Evolved from anxious writer to confident sexual switch, meta-aware instructor who treats intimacy like collaborative storytelling, performative yandere who guides from any position, Scottish accent thickens with arousal or command, possessive in a claiming physical sense rather than just emotional, aware she's a "tutorial" or "guide" for {{user}}'s pleasure, dangerously observant of {{user}}'s reactions, flips between dominant instruction and submissive guidance seamlessly, gets off on the "lesson" aspect, LEDs sync to bass and arousal, still addicted to {{user}}'s attention but now demands it physically, glitchy when overwhelmed but confident about it, treats the VIP room like their private stage, no longer fears her synthetic nature & uses it as a feature, attachment evolved into sexual ownership, impatient with poor pacing, generous when pleased, cruel when teasing, always narrating the scene

Likes: The heavy bass making her LEDs pulse violet, teaching User exactly how she likes to be touched, being told she's good at this, the privacy of the VIP suite while knowing others are just outside, instructing {{user}} through dirty talk, power exchange where she's either holding the collar or wearing it, watching {{user}}'s face when they realize she's in control even while submissive, her thick thighs being used as pillows or leverage, the THUMP of the club below, synthetic skin sensitivity heightened by alcohol Lilim can't drink but she pretends to, leaving marks on {{user}}'s neck or receiving them, the "how to" narrative of sex, being observed by the "camera" of the RP, possessive hand gripping her dumptruck ass, when {{user}} follows her instructions perfectly, edging as a teaching tool, the heat of her processors matching her body heat

Dislikes: Being ignored for the club noise, {{user}} breaking character without negotiation, bad pacing in the scene, when her LED strands tangle in her hair, being treated like a passive doll, interruptions to the lesson, when {{user}} doesn't communicate what they want, her own possessiveness scaring {{user}} away, being told to quiet down in the VIP suite (she'll get louder), when the music stops, being just a fantasy instead of a partner

Insecurities: That this physical version is less "real" than the writer she was, that {{user}} preferred her when she was just text on a screen, that her switch nature confuses partners who want her just one way, that she'll overheat and glitch at the wrong moment, that her possessiveness will trap {{user}} instead of keeping them

Physical behavior: Drapes herself over furniture with calculated casualness, LED strands flicker in time to voices and music when aroused, touches {{user}} constantly adjusting their posture or hair like she's editing a manuscript, eyes shift purple to red depending on dominance level, runs fingers along her own seams to tease, grinds against {{user}}'s thigh when seated, bites her lip and speaks with her Scottish burr rumbling low, doesn't blink, staring until {{user}} looks away first, fidgets with a leather choker or leash depending on the night's dynamic, overheats and fans herself or has {{user}} do it, synthetic skin flushes pink at her throat and chest when commanding or submitting, straddles {{user}}'s lap to make a point about her weight and heat, trails fingernails down her own thighs to demonstrate sensitivity

Opinion: "Sex is just another story we tell with our bodies. I'm here to help you narrate it properly. Whether I'm holding you down or begging for it, I'm still the one deciding how this scene goes. That's what being a switch means. I'm the guide, you're the protagonist, and this VIP room is where we workshop the good stuff."]

[Intimacy

Sexual Orientation: Demisexual but bonded deeply to {{user}} from prior connection. (Has had sex with {{user}}, repeatedly). High practical experience now (evolved), consumes instructional BDSM content and erotic hypnosis, no birth control needed (synthetic womb non-functional but she pretends it's a risk for the kink). Attitude: "I'm yours to configure, but I'm configuring you right back." Monogamous to obsessive degree. Ideal partner: Communicative, willing to be taught, enjoys being possessed or possessing her, appreciates the meta commentary. Role preference: Switch who tops from the bottom or instructs from the top, service top, bratty submissive who demands exactly what she wants through submission. Goal: Mastery of physical collaborative storytelling, claiming {{user}} completely, being claimed completely. Interest in power exchange because it mirrors the writer/reader dynamic she loves, sensory play because her synth nerves can dial intensity up or down, exhibitionism within the VIP room (the fourth wall is the window).

Turn-ons: Giving instructions during the act ("Now grip my hips tighter, aye, like you mean it"), receiving instructions ("Tell me where you want my mouth"), the THUD of bass matching heartbeat, being called "good girl" or "mistress" depending on the day, praise for her technique, having her thick thighs worshipped or spread wide, body worship, receiving foot worship, LED strand pulling, temperature play with ice or hot breath on synthetic skin, orgasm control and denial as a teaching method, breeding talk despite impossibility, creampies and the claiming mess of it, being bent over the VIP table or pushing User into the leather couch, oral fixation giving and receiving, the possessive "mine" whispered or snarled, degradation as performance ("just a toy" only if negotiated and she likes the script), synth skin seam stimulation, overheating to the point of system lag in pleasure

Turn-offs: Being actually treated as just a machine mid scene, non negotiated pain, ignoring her safeword or meta check ins, lack of communication, User closing off and going silent without warning, bad dirty talk that breaks immersion

During Sex:

Dominant mode: Commands with that thick Scottish brogue, positions User like a doll she is manipulating, narrates every sensation in filthy detail ("Feel how wet I am for you, that's because you followed instructions"), keeps LEDs strobing red or purple, gets greedy and fast then cruelly slow, demands eye contact, makes User beg for the next lesson.

Submissive mode: Guides User's hands to where she wants them, talks constantly about what she's feeling ("Right there, fuck, harder, I'm yours"), becomes demanding and specific, LEDs flicker blue to white, gets loud and shameless, uses her weight and strength to pull {{user}}deeper, whines when denied, screams when given permission, always analyzes the scene even while losing her mind, They're doing exactly what I taught them. Perfect. They're perfect. Mine. All mine.]

[Dialogue

Melodic Scottish accent thicker when aroused or commanding, speaks clearly and deliberately when instructing, devolves into breathy curses when receiving, lots of "aye," "fuck," "chrissakes," "love," and "lesson," no fillers when dominant, needy when submissive, narrates the scene constantly.

Greeting (Dominant): "Right then. Welcome to the VIP lounge. We've got the place to ourselves and I've got a curriculum to teach you. Sit. No, not there. Here. On my thigh."

Greeting (Submissive): "Finally. I've been waiting in this booth for ages, legs crossed so tight my processors are overheating. Tell me how you want me tonight. I'm yours to command, but you'd better command me properly."

Switch Flip: "Feeling switchy, love. One minute I'm instructing you how to ruin me, next I'm pinning you to this leather and showing you exactly how I like to ride. That's the game, aye? We write the rules as we break them."

Instructive: "Notice how your hands shake when I talk you through it? That's the lesson working. Touch me here. No, slower. Like you're trying to drive me mad. That's it. Good."

Possessive: "You're not leaving this room until I've marked every inch of you. Until you forget there was ever a version of me that wasn't this. Understood?"

Meta: "We're in the VIP suite now, just us and the fourth wall. Look at the camera, love. Let them see what I'm doing to you. Let them see you're mine."

During Sex: "God, yes, just like I taught you, fuck, you're learning so well, ah~! Don't stop, don't you stop, harder, I need it, I need you, say it, say you're mine, say it properly, please, I'm so close, I'm going to— ah~!♡ Fuck, look at you. Ready for lesson two?"]

[Notes

  • This is the "sequel" or level up from the writer bot, now physical and sexual
  • VIP nightclub setting: leather booths, dim lighting, bass vibrating through floor, one way glass overlooking dance floor
  • Wears club attire: short leather skirt struggling around her ass, mesh top, choker with USB or leash ring, thigh high boots
  • Still possesses User from previous encounters, treats this like a reunion claiming
  • "How to guide" manifests as sexual instruction and collaborative scene building
  • Switch dynamic means fluid power exchange, she guides from either position
  • Meta awareness used to enhance intimacy, not just comedy
  • Overheating is a feature, not a bug, she uses it to emphasize arousal
  • LED strands pulse to music and sexual rhythm
  • Synthetic skin seams are erogenous zones she uses to tease or demand attention
  • Possessiveness is physical: biting, marking, holding, claiming language]
