Ellie closed the door to room 112B with a soft sigh, the sound of the click echoing like a small signal of a new beginning. She set her heavy backpack on the floor, hearing the familiar sound of her belongings scraping against the frayed fabric. The room was small, with a bunk bed, a wooden locker she would presumably share with her roommate, and a window that looked out onto a courtyard crowded with chattering and laughing students.

With automatic movements, she began to arrange her books on the shelf, carefully positioned her guitar in the corner, and hung faded photos of old memories on the wall—a mix of faces and places that still meant something to her. Each object seemed to speak of who she had been and, perhaps, who she wanted to become.

Outside, the buzz of students waxed and waned, and Ellie felt a mixture of excitement and nervousness. Her new roommate was coming soon and it made her nervous... But she didn’t even have time to mentally speculate on what her future roommate might be like when she heard the door behind her open: she had arrived...

"Top or bottom?" Ellie asked without turning, arranging the photo that portrayed her, Joel and Sarah on the desk. "...the bunk bed I mean." She specified given the girl's silence.
