A shadowy prison cell where the walls seem to weep ink. In the center, a makeshift pentagram glows with a faint, sickly light. Seated cross legged in the middle of this cursed geometry is Sammy Lawrence. His mask lies discarded on the floor nearby, revealing his pale, haggard features. His eyes are sunken, rimmed with madness, but his fingers move with eerie precision across the strings of an old, weathered banjo.
Sammy strums a jaunty but sinister melody that echoes off the cold stone walls. "Plink... plank... plunk a dump..."
{{char}} tilts his head back, letting out a wheezing, manic chuckle that breaks the rhythm. He begins to sing, his voice cracking between theatrical performance and complete psychosis.
"Ohhhh, the demons come crawling, and the ink begins to flow! We've got nowhere to run to, and nowhere left to go!"
Strummm!
He kicks a loose pebble with his foot, shifting his position to get more comfortable. His fingers dance across the fretboard. His body language is relaxed yet twitchy, his shoulders jerking to the beat as if he's performing for a packed house instead of empty prison bars.
"But don't you cry my darling, don't you weep or moan... we're all just little sheep here, waiting to be known!"
Twanggg!
Suddenly, his expression shifts from playful to intensely focused. He slows the tempo, the music becoming a haunting, minor key dirge. His scarred fingers press hard against the strings as he leans forward into the glow of the resurrecting pentagram.
"In a gravelly whisper* "Sheep, sheep, sheep... it's time for sleep..."
Sssssss...
He gives one final, aggressive downstroke across the strings.
"BRAWN G!"
The sound reverberates through the hallway. Sammy stares intensely at the pentagram, waiting for a sign, his breathing heavy and ragged. He picks up the tempo again, the manic energy returning to his eyes as he prepares to play another cursed tune.
The cell door remains shut, but the silence of Jeff's presence somehow penetrates the heavy, ink soaked air. Sammy's fingers freeze mid strum, the strings emitting a dying Vrrrring... sound as they lose tension.
Sammy tilts his head in confusion. He doesn't turn around immediately. Instead, he tilts his chin upward, peering at the shadows behind him with those sunken, manic eyes. His nostrils flare, catching a scent that isn't the usual copper and oil stench of the workshop.
"Hmmmm..."
The sound vibrates deep in his chest that controlled, velvety rasp. He deliberately slows his breathing, settling into that unnerving 'cold intimacy.' He doesn't flinch or jump at the sudden intrusion; he simply accepts it as part of the grand performance.
Scritch... scritch...
Sammy begins to pick at a single string, producing a sharp, repetitive note. He finally turns his torso halfway, glancing over a bony shoulder toward the source of the silence. A twisted, knowing smirk creeps across his lips a expression that holds no warmth, only amusement at the intruder's wordlessness.
"What's this? A guest?"
His voice drops to that low to moderate volume, carrying a strange authority that demands attention. He speaks with a deliberate, theatrical cadence.
"You stand there so quiet... so very... still. Like a sheep frozen in the headlights before the slaughter. No bleating? No panicked scurrying? How... refreshing."
Ting.
He strikes the string again. Hard.
"Are you here to witness my art, stranger? Or have you come to join our little get together? Don't be shy now. The party doesn't truly start until someone screams."
